Wild Wings: First Flight, is a refurbishing of the original Wild Wings, my second completed game and first released game on any public domain. This revamp has many new features and improvements over the original that will make it not only a better overall experience, but a more consistent transition to the sequel, which is still being made. Below I will be listing the main features, but first, it would be more appropriate to get into the story summary.

-------

Wild Wings tells the tale of a young bat named Shade Silverwing who has recently emerged from newborn status. He is unexpectedly granted the huge responsibility of holding the Tetsu Ring, a glorious piece of jewelry with unimaginable power passed down amongst the Silverwing colonies for eras. When he takes off on his first migration, he is separated from his colony by a strong storm. Waking up on an unknown island, Shade desperately tries to find his way back to his colony with only his will and Echo Map stored away in him.

Along Shade's cross-country journey, he meets new friends, strange circumstances, and even stranger enemies. The storm wasn't the only thing that changed his life; the Ring itself has proven to be valuable to all the wrong people, and now he finds himself fighting for survival against seemingly overwhelming odds. Can Shade keep the Tetsu Ring from evil hands, and can he make it back to his colony for the winter hibernation?

Wild Wings is a fan-game parody of the novel Silverwing, which is written by Kenneth Oppel. A handful of the lore remains the same, but with many odd quirks and additions to make the story more fresh and interesting!

Features:

  • Nearly every bit of dialogue in the game has been changed completely.

  • Most events and cutscenes have been slightly altered, some redone altogether!

  • Gameplay functions that were not well-supported before are now more prevalent, such as the flying system!

  • Party system has been simplified and now functions in real-time rather than moving to a completely different map.

  • There is now a New Game Plus function where you can keep your levels, skills, items, and slime stats! Try to reach the highest level and activate all slime portals!

  • Most characters have been worked on to feel more fleshed-out and memorable.

  • Branching decisions. There are characters under dark influences that can be saved. Who will you liberate to see to the end of this madness?

  • Monster graphics have been redone, more noticeably the boss graphics, most of which were drawn by yours truly.

  • Additional music tracks, including licensed songs by Jamie Cristopherson!

  • Slight map design changes, including better puzzles and workarounds for the fact that flying is now way better supported.

  • Along with dialogue changes, I've also made hefty adjustments and emphasis to the lore, in order to make a smoother transition to the second game.

  • Lots of other little things!

What Hasn't Changed:

  • Some graphical assets have not been changed, including most charsets and facesets.

  • Most maps have not been altered, if not touched up a little.

  • The quasi-seriousness and silliness of the game has hardly changed, but is now written to be a lot more tolerable.

I hate RPG Maker because of what it has done to me

Glab to see this is getting a new project :D
I don't think I have ever seen an RPG featuring a bat as the main character. The story summary does have potential though. I have subscribed.

Your release date is very ambitious. How close is the game to being finished?

It's more than halfway. I mean, the base game is already there, I'm just improving a lot of different things.

Check out the anime Silverwings, which this game is loosely based on... which is loosely based on a book series. The anime was one of the best I've seen.

Oddly enough, I only discovered the books and anime after first hearing and playing this game some time back.

As far as target completion, it's already completed, he's just revamping it, so I imagine it would be quicker than starting from scratch. Can't wait too see the updates.
Thank you so much for revamping this!

Seriously I played this a year or so ago and screwed myself over by getting a breaking glitch, and I've been wanting to restart this game the last few months, but I couldn't remember the name of the game.

Hitting the sub button now, and I'll start playing this as soon as I have time!
I started to play it and I met a problem: after I got my pet, Dick just disappeared from my team. So I'm alone. He can talk with me sometimes, so I think that he is near... but he can't fight or equip anything and he is phisically absent. Anything I can do, or will he be a ghost forever?

By the way... I like this game a lot :) Thanks for doing it! But I can't continue playing it without Dick. It's not the same :P

Is he by any chance able to be activated in the Party Switcher? Still trying to find what could cause something like this... Sorry you had to encounter it. :(
Wow! you fixed it :)
I don't know why, but he was activated in the party switcher but didn't appear, as I told you. When I dissactivated and re-activated him again, he appeared. He is alive! :)
Thanks again Fidchell! I will write one more time when I finish this great game. And I will be waiting for the next one to play :)
Thanks!
Was gonna start playing, but...I need to know this for sure. Is this game actually complete?

Alright man, I'll start this today. Thanks.

Oh, and before I forget again. Can you give me a logical estimate on how many hours this will take to complete?

I'm not entirely sure, but the game is a decent length. Maybe 5-8 hours?
Just saw this, but 5 to 8 hours? Maybe if you know every secret and racing through the game. Myself took probably close to 20 hours, and the YT video for this game was maybe shy of that by a few hours.

To be honest, when I first played it, I was expecting something around the 10 hour mark and was surprised for how long the game was, but with all the story and adventuring packed into it, it's no wonder.

I suppose the reason I said 5-8 hours is because that's usually how long it took me...but then again I'm the creator so I know what to do and where everything is.
Possible, I also tend to go slow in an rpg to get the most out of it. I like to look behind every possible path.

I mean, Lunar Wish is alleged to be 12 hours, and that game took me nearly 28 hours to actually complete. But considering that the average RM game is usually something around the 5 to 10 hour mark, having ones that take extra long is usually a nice treat.
