For Liberty's 2014 2-Day DO SOMETHING Challenge, Craze designed a community game and asked for RMN users to submit characters. A deluge of interest was generated and thirty characters were born!

The vile Wyrm Wizard has decimated the country of Aremen, and evil seems to be on the brink of consuming the land. Thirty souls rise and unite to push back the darkness, and to break the oppressor's power with their unique talents. It's up to you to gather the the thirty heroes together and traverse the broken land. Find the evil Wyrm Wizard and put an end to his reign of terror!

Features Include:

  • Thirty warriors to find!
  • Switch out characters on the fly, anywhere, anytime, even in battle.
  • Reward medals are given for clever item management. These rewards unlock unique items and gear.
  • A unique level system with a dynamic level cap that grows as you progress and lift the curses that plague the land.

Please see the Character page for information on the massive cast!

I am quitting Wyrm Warriors

I no longer enjoy working on Wyrm Warriors. In fact, I haven't since an incident nearly a year ago between me and one of the contributors. Aside from adding a quest system, laying out towns and making several dungeon maps, not a whole lot has been done since the initial release.

I have decided to quit the project. I'm leaving the current build up for anyone who cares to grab it. There are a few contributed locations with maps missing, but I will add those in tonight.

I'm someone who prides herself on finishing what she starts, so deciding to drop this isn't something I take lightly. For a long time, I told myself that I'd power through it, but every second I spend on it is time I wish I was working on something else. I took breaks and tried to come back to the game, but every time it was the same: the same lack of enjoyment and void of enthusiasm.

I told myself "you HAVE to do this, make a big status declaring your intent and get the next installment out, no matter how un-fun it is." But after a couple of days, I already found myself wanting to do anything else but continuing. Making games is my hobby, but it's not a job, and I just can't put my time, energy, and love into something I no longer enjoy making.

I sincerely apologize to you all, especially to those who have made maps and characters. I will refrain from running community projects in the future to prevent this sort of catastrophe from happening again.

What does this mean for the future of Wyrm Warriors? Is the game dead? That's up to you. As I took over the project when Craze was done with it, someone can step up and take the lead if they wish. Or, it can be completely run by the community. Or it can end here and be forgotten. I leave it entirely in your hands, but I must take my leave.

Again, I am very sorry. -_-

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Scripting is separate from events. It's for making gameplay systems and complex battle mechanics.

Hitori was meant to have brown hair back when Craze implied that he had the facesets for all the palette swapped characters, but I think he was lying so uh whatever I don't actually care what color her hair is

We're not skimping, we're being realistic. With a cast this big you just don't have time to put everything in and finish the project within a good time period.

That said, it's always better to have way more personality notes than you need, and I think that'd actually make it *easier* for unity to make dialogue. Especially if we include a bunch of dialogue snippets that we believe the character might say. Then unity can just copy-paste different lines over and alter them based on the conversation. All I know is that when I make an RPG, no matter how small, it's always easier to be creative when you have a ton of background notes to draw on. The entire lore of an area doesn't even need to be delved on, but it actually helps them have to feel like a real place. Same with characters.

Wow, I'm gone for a couple of days and I have a lot of great comments when I get back ^_^

Great demo for what's shaping up to be a very well done game.

Thank you very much! We're going to keep at it, and hopefully the final game will be one to remember ^.^

Also, only three out of the thirty characters are actually mine, the rest were created by the community, so its difficult to make the narrative filled with dialog that explores the characters' personalities.
Would it be a bad idea to create a new topic and ask the creators of character-and in the case a creator is absent, someone else- to flesh out a character and perhaps give them a semblance of a backstory, a personality, or at least an archetype for the character to fill?

LockeZ covered this mostly. Though I may do a "design a conversation" or "design an event" or even "design a recruitment method" thread later on, if it's needed. As it is, I'm having trouble just getting people to volunteer their characters for the next region, so we'll see how things turn out.

Oh, wow, this is awesome. My question is, will another one of these be hosted in the future?

Thanks! I'd like to think we'll do a sequel in the future with all new characters, but I can't say anything for certain until we finish this one ^^;;

Though I will say that if I lead a sequel, the people who have helped with this one but didn't get a character of their own in will have first dibs for characters if we do a sequel ^_^

Keep in mind that this was supposed to be a 2-day project (laaaaaaaaaawl) that kinda snow-balled to hell and back. So yeah, characterisation isn't big on the to-do list. We've got some in there with the reactions to different things like treasure chests, inns, start/end battle quotes, levelling up and the rest, but anything deeper is a bit much for one person to do.
Could we go back and edit stuff in? Sure, why not?
But after all the heavy lifting is over - we don't want to burn poor unity out! Steady on...

Thank you, Liberty! This is absolutely the outlook that's most helpful to getting the game completed. While I'll take any suggestions and dialog from character creators, the main goal is to get the core of the game done, and we can refine it as we go along ^^

Here's how Hitori looks in-game, as far as her hair is concerned:

This is not reflected on the cast page, however, as there isn't a bust picture of her with that hair-color. But the bust pictures are not used in game, so in the game, she'll have that light-brown hair.

I won't say no to more dialog. The most useful dialog will be dialog pertaining to recruiting that character, honestly.

Aww, I'd hoped that as a Magical Girl she'd have an Improbable Hair Color... Dirty blond is so... normal! Plus I'd been associating her healing/water powers with the ocean, mother of all life...
That's kinda the thing though. Everyone else in this weird world has crazy hair. Some normal girl (who just so happens to be a Magical Girl) from a world like our own is kinda outta place with plain brown. Besides, contrast~

AH. I see. I thought she might be a crazy-haired girl from a normal world who finally found a place she fit in....
Also I forgot- do the red non, renewing enemies have a higher chance of rare drops?
*Hopes LAntwese will be able to open some of the locked doors we've encountered(.
Bug: Anna is listed as being able to equip Wands. She can't actually equip Wands but can equip Swords.
Hey guys, an update on that shop script. The person making it (Rachael/Yato) is (besides freakin' awesome-as) getting there. She has this so far:

Basically it'll work how I detailed - coloured sprites are those who can equip the item and have been found. Greyed-out sprites are those who cannot equip the item and have been found and silhouette's are those who have yet to be found. There's the full thirty characters (three lines of ten) shown at all times.

When you pick a weapon/armour to buy, instead of asking for how many the selector will jump to the side and allow you to scroll through the coloured sprites. It'll show the stat differences of the current equipped whatever and the one being bought. If you cancel it'll go back to the list. If you continue with sale it'll jump to a screen asking if you want to auto-equip to that character or buy an amount.

What do you guys think? Awesome, right? (I think it's pretty freaking ace~)

@Libby That's awesome! I think I like that scripter if they can make something that cool~
Oh, and uh double post because I'm pretty sure it's obligatory~

That description sounds more like a ghetto halberd than a regular one. An axe mounted on a spear just strikes me as odd.
An axe on a spear on a sword~ XD

But yeah, got some sticky tape and taped that axe to my spear. HALBERD OF (STICKY) JUSTICE GOOOOOO!

Make it an in-game joke item. And have everyone call it a naginata. Which upsets Yasuno a lot.
Anyone know if there's a way to NOT receive notifications on a game that you're credited as working on?

Sorry about that. Unfortunately, I don't know of any way to do that. I can, however, remove you from the developers list and put you back when the game's done, so that you're not constantly flooded with notices ^^;; My apologies for the mess.
That works! All I did was one of the character concepts anyway, haha.

I did play the little demo that's up last week, though. So far so good!
