For Liberty's 2014 2-Day DO SOMETHING Challenge, Craze designed a community game and asked for RMN users to submit characters. A deluge of interest was generated and thirty characters were born!

The vile Wyrm Wizard has decimated the country of Aremen, and evil seems to be on the brink of consuming the land. Thirty souls rise and unite to push back the darkness, and to break the oppressor's power with their unique talents. It's up to you to gather the the thirty heroes together and traverse the broken land. Find the evil Wyrm Wizard and put an end to his reign of terror!

Features Include:

  • Thirty warriors to find!
  • Switch out characters on the fly, anywhere, anytime, even in battle.
  • Reward medals are given for clever item management. These rewards unlock unique items and gear.
  • A unique level system with a dynamic level cap that grows as you progress and lift the curses that plague the land.

Please see the Character page for information on the massive cast!

I am quitting Wyrm Warriors

I no longer enjoy working on Wyrm Warriors. In fact, I haven't since an incident nearly a year ago between me and one of the contributors. Aside from adding a quest system, laying out towns and making several dungeon maps, not a whole lot has been done since the initial release.

I have decided to quit the project. I'm leaving the current build up for anyone who cares to grab it. There are a few contributed locations with maps missing, but I will add those in tonight.

I'm someone who prides herself on finishing what she starts, so deciding to drop this isn't something I take lightly. For a long time, I told myself that I'd power through it, but every second I spend on it is time I wish I was working on something else. I took breaks and tried to come back to the game, but every time it was the same: the same lack of enjoyment and void of enthusiasm.

I told myself "you HAVE to do this, make a big status declaring your intent and get the next installment out, no matter how un-fun it is." But after a couple of days, I already found myself wanting to do anything else but continuing. Making games is my hobby, but it's not a job, and I just can't put my time, energy, and love into something I no longer enjoy making.

I sincerely apologize to you all, especially to those who have made maps and characters. I will refrain from running community projects in the future to prevent this sort of catastrophe from happening again.

What does this mean for the future of Wyrm Warriors? Is the game dead? That's up to you. As I took over the project when Craze was done with it, someone can step up and take the lead if they wish. Or, it can be completely run by the community. Or it can end here and be forgotten. I leave it entirely in your hands, but I must take my leave.

Again, I am very sorry. -_-

cool, thanks. That may work. I was thinking of making the Minnow the hub of the town. It's a condensed layout meant to blend into the foliage somewhat.
I'm running with the idea that the "tiny island" where Rackham marooned his crew was Tortura itself, so the area is as much hideout as town...

If someone else would grab Mt. Arazia, I'd realty appreciate it. I kept wanting to put in pitfalls and damage floors, but it's not a dungeon, and I'm not sure how to make it interesting. I think Tortura will be a much better place to start
Finished the first area and was surprised that was the end of the demo....when will the next be available?
I can see now this has the very likely chance of becoming unwieldy with so many available characters to find and use wisely.

Well, not all of them are required per se (though the prophecy does speak of thirty characters), but there's no real reason not to collect them all.
That may be true but its fun to find the buggers. Waiting (im)patiently now for more!

Glad you enjoyed it! ^_^ We're working on the next region as we speak, and it's going to be a lot bigger than the first one :D

I hope you have an idea how the entire thing fits together as a whole too; making some kind of geologic sense is a good idea.
And Magical Hitori fanart out of boredom.

Did you see my map that I posted here? I swore I posted it and now a few days later it is gone. If that was intentional I understand. It was the island village.

You can find it here. It is on a special page called "Make a Map", which you can access from the top of the gamepage.

Edit: How could I ever think I'd be faster than Marrend... ^_^

How did I not see this? Did you draw that, BT? It looks great! Love the over-all feel of it, especially her serious expression. She looks like she's about to fuck someone up. "In the name of...uh, whatever, I'ma fuck you over!"

Actually i whipped her up in a dollgen, likely the one here, then did a color tweak. Mind you, I expect Ferdinand (her Mentor Mascot) liked THIS outfit better, but she chose the other.
Woops yes that's the one. My bad.
I heard you guys need help mapping? If so I can help.

Not sure if I've said this before, but the tune in the very first scene is called Poem For the Different Future— the bright future our heroes hope to bring about . . . .

I played this awhile ago, and I never thought to comment. That was stupid, because this is really polished for a demo!

Ordinarily I shy away from games that feature a large cast of characters because it feels just like that: A large cast. The rest of those games tend not to plan around the cast, and the gameplay feels bland and uninspired. Plus, with a large cast of characters, very few of them are given any real development, so it's hard to really get invested in them.

Thankfully, this game doesn't have... most of those problems. From a gameplay perspective, it's very well done. Many good design decisions were made to complement the large cast: the level cap, the leveling up when bosses are beaten, the fact that many characters can use similar equipment, etc. So at no point did it feel like a tedious grind to get everyone to a proper level. Now that might change as the game goes on, but for now, this is very well made.

The characterization is done surprisingly well! Sure, there may not be lots of dialogue to get to know their personalities at first, but all it takes is a look at their passive skills to glean enough information about who you're playing as. Like Lorence's love of knowledge, or Kathleen's enjoyment of helping others! It's excellent that the characters are all highly diverse in their design too, as that makes them really stick out visually. Plus their manners of speaking are all different.

I suppose if I really had to come up with some criticism, it would have to be that sometimes I feel like they're not exactly a party. Rather, they're more like a group of individuals who don't even acknowledge each others existences. I understand that coordinating party banter would be all but impossible, but that's just what I feel like sometimes. It wouldn't be so odd if the first three characters didn't have extensive dialog with each other at the very beginning.

Perhaps have at least one character comment on another when investigating certain points? For example: Right HERE after talking to Rosie's friend, perhaps make some comment from Kathleen about how close Rosie is with he friend?

A few minor things I found:

- In Rosie's short description on the TOP, the sentence is phrased oddly. It should be, "taunt enemy brutes into focusing ON her," or something like that.

- Is Seal supposed to last outside of battle? Because it DOES, and no other ailment I've seen so far does that (Except for KO, but that's obvious).

All in all, excellent demo! I'm really excited to see where this goes!

That would be cool. My guess is, Aremen is above Arum, which is something like pocket universe within it.
What about this game, Is it worked on its? I would like to contribute some map if so.
