For Liberty's 2014 2-Day DO SOMETHING Challenge, Craze designed a community game and asked for RMN users to submit characters. A deluge of interest was generated and thirty characters were born!

The vile Wyrm Wizard has decimated the country of Aremen, and evil seems to be on the brink of consuming the land. Thirty souls rise and unite to push back the darkness, and to break the oppressor's power with their unique talents. It's up to you to gather the the thirty heroes together and traverse the broken land. Find the evil Wyrm Wizard and put an end to his reign of terror!

Features Include:

  • Thirty warriors to find!
  • Switch out characters on the fly, anywhere, anytime, even in battle.
  • Reward medals are given for clever item management. These rewards unlock unique items and gear.
  • A unique level system with a dynamic level cap that grows as you progress and lift the curses that plague the land.

Please see the Character page for information on the massive cast!

I am quitting Wyrm Warriors

I no longer enjoy working on Wyrm Warriors. In fact, I haven't since an incident nearly a year ago between me and one of the contributors. Aside from adding a quest system, laying out towns and making several dungeon maps, not a whole lot has been done since the initial release.

I have decided to quit the project. I'm leaving the current build up for anyone who cares to grab it. There are a few contributed locations with maps missing, but I will add those in tonight.

I'm someone who prides herself on finishing what she starts, so deciding to drop this isn't something I take lightly. For a long time, I told myself that I'd power through it, but every second I spend on it is time I wish I was working on something else. I took breaks and tried to come back to the game, but every time it was the same: the same lack of enjoyment and void of enthusiasm.

I told myself "you HAVE to do this, make a big status declaring your intent and get the next installment out, no matter how un-fun it is." But after a couple of days, I already found myself wanting to do anything else but continuing. Making games is my hobby, but it's not a job, and I just can't put my time, energy, and love into something I no longer enjoy making.

I sincerely apologize to you all, especially to those who have made maps and characters. I will refrain from running community projects in the future to prevent this sort of catastrophe from happening again.

What does this mean for the future of Wyrm Warriors? Is the game dead? That's up to you. As I took over the project when Craze was done with it, someone can step up and take the lead if they wish. Or, it can be completely run by the community. Or it can end here and be forgotten. I leave it entirely in your hands, but I must take my leave.

Again, I am very sorry. -_-

Why ain't this game finished...I've been waiting forever :( Been so long, I forgot what it's all about :(
Probably because people got other shit to do.
Yeah. Like winning a worldwide indie game making competition, releasing a commercial game, being a judge for a contest. But maybe that's no excuse for completing a community game that people haven't even finished posting their maps for? Yeah. Totally possible.

End of sarcasm. If anyone is to be ragged on for being unproductive, for goodness sake let that not be unity. That's just madness.

Cashmere, damn, does no one pay attention to my smilies?? :)
My question was cause I'm curious about the progress and that was all.
Lighten' up guys. I ALMOST am never serious :)

I'm sorry for making everyone wait. My focus will be on this game until I get another release out. And thanks for those standing up for me. I do tend to get caught up in a lot of different projects and events.

That's an understatement. If anything you put us to shame with your hard work. You're making us all look bad!

I understand! ^_^ But I have made everyone wait a long time since I've been working on multiple other projects, so I need to get on this.

Haha, thanks! I'm just an obsessive creator. I keep finding things I want to make.

Only if you volunteered to make one. :P

YES, and we all know you've been spending to much time at Hot Dog Heaven with the rest of the crew :) that and putting away all your snow shovels for the summer.
I still need to do that, actually. And change the winter tires off of the car.

I noticed a lot of you better developers have so many "irons in the fire", it's hard to finish a project.

I wondered about that and even sent Liberty a private message asking what the reason might be that you all do that?
Of course, knowing Liberty, she is probably cussing up a storm at my impudent question and composing a scathing reply :) hahahahahahhaha

oh crap, is this a double post? :)

Lord help me, I just noticed a reply from Liberty in my INBOX :)
hot iron pokers are the best for scratching that itch, I guess.

To be honest, the main reason I don't get stuff done is because I spend too much time watching YouTube videos, browsing reddit and Facebook. I'm looking to spend more time on my projects now.
I just put everything on hiatus instead. My year and half long experiment to get back into game development in earnest failed.

I think a lot of us have a ton of games we want to work on, and it's hard to suppress that impulse to start a new project. It's a bad habit, but I'm as guilty of it as anyone else (if not more :P ) But I do tend to get projects finished, (some more eventually than others XD) so I'm not terribly worried.
I'm not that scary, am I? ;^;

Also, what uni said. A lot of the time it's just... you get a great idea and you get fired up then something happens - maybe you get a new idea or you realise your idea was stupid or you can't do a thing that you want to do so you just throw a hissy fit and go all Prima Donna "No! Nonononono! I cannot be done! If I cannot have it this way I will have it NO way!" or just run out of steam or find yourself wondering what the hell you were thinking at 3am on a weeknight as you're laying in bed dreaming up concepts and it hits you - this idea was fucking bullshit.

XD

Or a mix of the above.

What liberty said is why i'm not making game profiles until my games are 70+% done EVER AGAIN

the difference between unity and i is that unity continues dancing between projects like a crazy-but-productive person, while i just drop stuff forever.

I actually have trouble juggling projects. Once I make a commitment to something, I tend to focus so much on it that everything else suffers. What really helps me stay focused is writing down the ideas I have for other projects, but leave it at that: ideas. You can spend time developing them, but I wouldn't try too hard to implement them even in a prototype, as it's a very slippery slope and it wouldn't be too long before you spend more time on the main project than you would on the prototypes. With your ideas down in a document of some sort, your mind is cleared and focused on your projects.

Back on topic: I'm not really aware of what's going on behind the scenes of this game, but I'm comparing the taken maps to the completed maps and, assuming that's up to date, there's quite a few that haven't been submitted yet. There's only so much unity can do if there are no maps to work with.

Unless that list is out of date. In which case ignore that previous statement.

And I don't think there's anything wrong with that. ^_^ We all have our processes, and dropping a game is sometimes necessary. And the games you do finish are wonderful and enjoyable :D

It's true: I've developed a super-obsessive drive to work on RPG-making. It gives me joy to spend so much time on my hobby, but I do it at the expense of so many other things, so I have to say that I wouldn't wish it on anybody else. I haven't gone to see a movie in theaters in half a year, and Sooz can tell you I have a stack of commercial games I've been meaning to play that I just haven't gotten time for yet. I'm happy with the way things are but I wouldn't call it normal by any stretch XD

I quite largely suspect that such is the case, myself. Kinda like how Apon the Brow of Tomorrow Clear still only has 4 maps to it's name?
