I am quitting Wyrm Warriors

I no longer enjoy working on Wyrm Warriors. In fact, I haven't since an incident nearly a year ago between me and one of the contributors. Aside from adding a quest system, laying out towns and making several dungeon maps, not a whole lot has been done since the initial release.

I have decided to quit the project. I'm leaving the current build up for anyone who cares to grab it. There are a few contributed locations with maps missing, but I will add those in tonight.

I'm someone who prides herself on finishing what she starts, so deciding to drop this isn't something I take lightly. For a long time, I told myself that I'd power through it, but every second I spend on it is time I wish I was working on something else. I took breaks and tried to come back to the game, but every time it was the same: the same lack of enjoyment and void of enthusiasm.

I told myself "you HAVE to do this, make a big status declaring your intent and get the next installment out, no matter how un-fun it is." But after a couple of days, I already found myself wanting to do anything else but continuing. Making games is my hobby, but it's not a job, and I just can't put my time, energy, and love into something I no longer enjoy making.

I sincerely apologize to you all, especially to those who have made maps and characters. I will refrain from running community projects in the future to prevent this sort of catastrophe from happening again.

What does this mean for the future of Wyrm Warriors? Is the game dead? That's up to you. As I took over the project when Craze was done with it, someone can step up and take the lead if they wish. Or, it can be completely run by the community. Or it can end here and be forgotten. I leave it entirely in your hands, but I must take my leave.

Again, I am very sorry. -_-

Don't be sorry, unity. You've taken a decision knowing what you were doing and why. If you had decided to quit Wyrm Warriors for no reason, then you'd have to apologize. But the last thing you should do now is feel guilty - that's the opposite of what I want.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

You want to do puzzles and some dungeon maps, then, NeverSilent? I would be willing to design the combat aspects, and know enough about scripting to manage what little is needed for a project like this. We would still need a third person for dialogue, cut scenes, and even more maps.

Basically I'm willing to step up on the condition that I don't have to make any maps. It's not something I can't do, but it's something that easily burns me out and so I'd rather spend that mental energy on my own personal projects.

In theory most of the maps were going to be done and submitted by random community members, but obviously that never happened and will never happen. Someone needs to step up and just singlehandedly do a bunch of them if this thing is ever going to move forward. Preferably, two or three people need to do that.

I would have more makerscore If I did things.

I'll make maps.
I'll be happy to help out with writing and mapping too. We could, like, do a McBacon thing and make a team of awesome. Although, LockeZ, I swear to God, if you make the battles too long I will bop you sooooo bad. ;p

I don't understand why you hate it so much when two battles are combined into one, but for this game I would keep them about the same length they are in the demo.

You're magical to me.

You guys ;_; It would be so wonderful to see you all team up and keep this going, seriously. ;_;

I'm getting teary-eyed, seriously.

Thanks, NS. That means a lot to hear that ^_^ ;_;

I can't map in VX Ace for the life of me, but I'd gladly take over the puzzles/minigames and some writing or cutscenes. (Though the question is whether I'd be able to do that in the same style as unity has done...)
fuck it let's make another event out of this.

I think the event should be, "Taking over Wyrm Warriors," first. Maps are great but if no one is around to implement them, then there's no real point.

Like we said before I don't think any one person needs to be in charge.

We must form a Council! The Council of the Wyrm Warriors!

I came up with this diagram representing a possible flow chart of the Wyrm Warriors team structure.

Maps are sent in to the group of users from the community via this page, and are placed into the project folder, which is located in a Dropbox shared by everybody working on it.

From the structure that is implied by the maps that are submitted, a dungeon flow is devised by the puzzle maker with a start point and a finish point. Thusly, someone can insert puzzles or other gameplay gimmicks in between.

Meanwhile, as the dungeons are stockpiled, the story is being written and the dungeon flow is being recorded. The writer relays to combat designer what kind of progression of monsters they want. The combat designer takes into account locational flow to figure out what progression of enemies that is required.

Communication happens via Skype or other instant messaging service. Dropbox is useful for storage of the main folder. If everyone has Dropbox software installed it can automatically sync with everyone at once. But people only have to replace the "Data" folder to allow version changes with only <1MB download. Old versions can be saved as local copies on somebody's hard drive at periodic intervals.

Maybe it's time for nhubi's writing debut
I didn't play this game, but seeing that you have made the tough decision to move on from this game, I definitely respect that. When it's time to move on, it's time to move on.

Hope to see a new game from you soon if any, unity! :)

All this input and enthusiasm is great - but if I may be completely honest, CashmereCat, to me that chart looks just intimidating. Like, I wouldn't even know where to start working according to this concept. (Not to mention that I'm paranoid and use neither Skype nor Dropbox...)
Maybe we should cool down a little and start brainstorming what we actually want and need to do and who will do that, before we come up with elaborate plans for something that hasn't even started yet.
I know I'm a bit late into this and... okay, more than "a bit", but anyways. I understand how you feel somewhat. Sometimes, you just had enough. But really, the progress you made in this project is far from negligible. I don't think you should apologize for being worn out from pushing yourself to the limit. You already did a great job, and now it's time to pass the torch.

Ps. As it is, I doubt the community will allow this game to simply be swept under the rug and forgotten. Rest assured, that Wyrm Warriors will live on.

Well it's not that elaborate, it just looks complex. The reason why it looks elaborate is because I didn't do enough work to make it simple yet effective.

I'm just suggesting a possible model for moving forward, and I figure this is as good a topic to talk about it as any. Feel free to share what worked for you in Disparity, because seeing as we've recently finished the McBacon Jam, techniques used for team collaboration, which seems to be being suggested right now, would be appreciated.

I'm only suggesting Dropbox because it worked swimmingly for our group last jam, even though our planning process did not, the file system is designed for efficient synchronous collaboration. Which means you can upload the Data folder and it will sync to everyone's Dropbox automatically.

The reason to use Skype was merely a cosmetic choice, you could use PMs or private subtopics on this gamepage, or otherwise.

If y'all need someone for just writing talky bits, I can def step up on that. I don't know shit about the rest, but by gum I can make dialog happen! (As references I present Uni and Red, also my comics.)
