I am quitting Wyrm Warriors

I no longer enjoy working on Wyrm Warriors. In fact, I haven't since an incident nearly a year ago between me and one of the contributors. Aside from adding a quest system, laying out towns and making several dungeon maps, not a whole lot has been done since the initial release.

I have decided to quit the project. I'm leaving the current build up for anyone who cares to grab it. There are a few contributed locations with maps missing, but I will add those in tonight.

I'm someone who prides herself on finishing what she starts, so deciding to drop this isn't something I take lightly. For a long time, I told myself that I'd power through it, but every second I spend on it is time I wish I was working on something else. I took breaks and tried to come back to the game, but every time it was the same: the same lack of enjoyment and void of enthusiasm.

I told myself "you HAVE to do this, make a big status declaring your intent and get the next installment out, no matter how un-fun it is." But after a couple of days, I already found myself wanting to do anything else but continuing. Making games is my hobby, but it's not a job, and I just can't put my time, energy, and love into something I no longer enjoy making.

I sincerely apologize to you all, especially to those who have made maps and characters. I will refrain from running community projects in the future to prevent this sort of catastrophe from happening again.

What does this mean for the future of Wyrm Warriors? Is the game dead? That's up to you. As I took over the project when Craze was done with it, someone can step up and take the lead if they wish. Or, it can be completely run by the community. Or it can end here and be forgotten. I leave it entirely in your hands, but I must take my leave.

Again, I am very sorry. -_-

@ Sooz: Three multiplayer games, a digital LEGO equivalent, and a game that lacked particularly complex plot but was praised for its characters just about any time it's mentioned? Quite frankly, not the best examples to compare to this very-much-singleplayer project with rather traditional gameplay mechanics on the whole. The case looks even weaker given that the same timeframe also gave us the unquestionably successful (even if controversial) Dear Esther, The Stanley Parable and Gone Home, + the constant stream of Telltale games, which have barely more gameplay than the previous examples.

The rest is indeed best discussed at the forums, since there's much scope for debate and interpretation. I doubt I would be able participate in such full-fledged discussion at the moment, unfortunately (maybe in a month's time?)

I don't think "discussion" means "discrediting other people's statements without addressing the underlying points they make." Both LockeZ and Sooz had credible things to say about the discussion, but rather than take either of their statements you've in fact further derailed discussion by pointing out mundane details about how their statements could have been addressed better or that someone connected to one of their quotes has flawed past opinions. The important part of those post actually was the actual content of their post as it relates to the project, not the quality of the quotes they used or the games they referenced. I appreciate your viewpoint as an outsider to the project, but please keep these kinds of discussions out of this topic as they aren't useful.

As a last point, when the team is finalized, please let me know so I can add all the members as developers. After this has happened, you may remove me as a developer.

Don't get all emo on us. All developers, even those who have contributed things in the past, deserve to be credited as developers on the project.

unity did a lovely job collating all this info and creating the start of a project, all for the sake of RMN. i am happy when a developer knows their limits, and happy for a happier unity. may you continue to be fantastic, unity <3

I mean, I kinda feel the same way, on occasion, with this, and Libby's Manor Map Madness games. However, I respect the decision to drop it/them. Sometimes, the best thing you can do is learn from the mistakes that were made, and move on.

True. I was just listening to one of the battle themes i had and thought "This would go so well with Hitori." Nostalgia ensued.

I know this is necroposting and probably wishful thinking, but one day this project will be revived, and I will be there to witness it.

Feel free to be the change you want to see in the world and revive it yourself.

I think this game has a lot of promise and a lot of awesome ideas, but I do not have positive memories of working on it due to some behind the scenes issues, so if it's going to be revived, it's not going to be by me.

If there is one thing that came out of this, it's when I was making this. I think it was Liberty who suggested that I could check out the shop screen from this game to display the vast number of characters that would be in that game. I went in a slightly direction that what this game does, but, I still have to give some respect to this game for how to display character sprites in the shop screen to begin with.

*Edit: This getting a necropost makes me think about Apon the Brow of Tomorrow, Clear, and how many times Liberty has tried to put that together. ;_;
