The Light of the Shadow is a turn-based, innovative, sideview and fast RPG.
It tells the story of our hero Shane, who is a witness to a kidnapping.
As he is asked by the village leader to retrieve this maiden, he embarks
on a journey that will affect, not only his own, but the lives around him.

In the current demo, you will play with Shane, our hero and experience his
first chapter of the game.
Ofcourse this RPG will also contain sidequest to get some nice rewards.

The battle system is tankentai, with a little twist.
Instead of MP, you will use SP (Spirit Points) to execute special moves.
The accumulation of SP is also interesting, which will only make
the battles alot more tactical and challenging.

This is my 4th RPG, and I like this one the most, but it's still under development.

I will add a blog for any suggestions, ideas, improvements or bugs.

the same thing happens to me, although i tried going back out just to see. I am glad i did because if id gone through the cave and then couldnt get back out it would really be irritating.

Fixed! (The arrowtransfer was correct, but the 2 beside them hadn't been changed)

Just a quick note of what I think is a bug:
Found the lost supplies on the shore and went back to the woman and kid.
She said "thank you" but I did not she reward and I still have the "lost supplies" in my inventory.

Other then that I am enjoying the game. The maps are great, but then, what do I know? Just what I like :)

I've been playing the game for about 20 minutes. It's fun, and I'm loving the XP-style tilesets! :D

I noticed a few bugs. If you use your Rust Key from the menu, you lose it (looks like it's set as a consumable item). Also, Linda, the lady who gives you the quest for the lost supplies, just says "Thank you" after you get the supplies, and she does not take them from you nor does she give you a reward.

I'll play more later and let you know what I think ^_^

I used the Rusty Key and I think I got an item of equipment ??

Yep, fun game, not hard but I love game when you don't die all the time and the graphics are fun as this one is...

Sorry to say Summer is still in trouble and walldeaf better hurry with part two so I can save my honey :)
Excellent demo! This game really hammers home the classic SNES feel, and I can't wait for the full completed version. The mapping was splendid, and the game play was fun. The combat actually was enjoyable, for the most part, since you had quests that made it more appealing, and the SP system made for more strategic boss fights without having to worry too much about saving your magic points.

The only thing that feels shallow at the moment is the story.

A girl gets kidnapped by some creatures, and the hero is unable to save her. So the mayor decides to send him out to rescue her, even though he doesn't appear to have any current connection with any of the people he comes across. And yet he's lent a sword by the mayor that the hero can use well enough, and may have some connection to the goddess.


Hopefully the story makes more sense as the game continues, but as long as the game play continues to impress, I'm sure I'll be pleased regardless.

will continue to strengthen the hero's connection at the start.

Edit: The rusty key chest rewards 200g. It is set correctly and the lady gives a full potion as reward, but the lost supplies indeed stays in the inventory.
Will fix that in the next update. fixed

I like mapping alot, but can't seem to work out the story, so its on ice at the moment.

Don't forget, we can always contact your daughter and you'll never know in the middle of what night she might strike if we tell her you have no plans to finish this game so you may be an old lady and never get to play it.

Good to know, but please don't include me in Linkis's threat. Mine are generally more subtle XD.

I should have said that I really do like your mapping, it's obvious that it's an area that you enjoy because it shows in the attention to detail and the little niceties you include to make them an interesting place to travel around. So I do have to say kudos for that. You obviously have also recognised the area in which you fall down a little and that is story, there is nothing inherently wrong in the story you are telling, it's just it seems to be delivered in a fairly uninteresting way at the moment, the flow is missing. It's like reading a series of disjointed sentences rather than listening to a dialogue between two people.

It needs something to tie it together, perhaps a closer connection between our hero and the kidnapped girl, perhaps he has always been touched by the goddess and the sword he is given awakens something fundamental in him. It just needs a little more personality to it.

Still I am looking forward to when you get around to releasing this, but take your time and look at the story closely, after all in a game such as this that is what the whole edifice hangs on.
Short demo. 1 town and 3 dungeons. This developer is definitely improving in game mak, but leaving behind a trail of demos though...

This game is basically the same as the other games, although more stuff happen and its slightly more hilarious than the others. Heal crystals reset your mana to zero, but I didn't bother using any skills anyway because random enemies are usually oneshots and bosses arent that dangerous. Dungeons are as basic as they come. At the end of the demo when the man in black zapped me, my character got dismembered because his 'lying down' spritesheet didnt have the correct dimensions.
