You have the power to split the world into half. You can destroy buildings, overturn mountains…
But you are still powerless against a human.
Even a human who wants to kill you.
Hey, isn’t that ironic? Isn’t that funny?
… Why aren’t you laughing, Mika-chan?

Lenine lives in a huge palace as the most trusted servant of Princess Micaiah, the only place of beauty remaining in a desolate, destroyed land. Everything is perfect - the food is good, the job is good, life is good. As long as nobody leaves this palace of salvation, there is no need to dwell on the horrors that lie beyond these walls.

Until one day, a mysterious stranger arrives... to teach these content souls the true price of perfection.

Mica: Apoptosis is a story-based game with horror elements about a web of delusions, a life of blissful ignorance, and the monstrous depravity that human beings can fall to in the name of love and admiration. The gruesome, revolting truth hidden behind the guise of a pretty, charming little lifestyle. Explore the game through three very different main characters with three very different perspectives, and tell your story as you believe it to be.

So powerful, yet so fragile… your life is like a candle, ready to be snuffed between my fingers.
I can slowly strangle you to death, and you can’t even flail to defend yourself.
You’re so funny, Mika-chan.

Mica: Apoptosis focuses on the experiences of three very stricken people, who are closer than they think, yet vastly different. And when things start changing, they begin their journeys on parallel lines, separated from one another.

Princess Micaiah, who owns a grand castle in the woods, hidden from society;

Lenine, her loyal servant, who is separated from her at the most crucial time and sees the world in a frighteningly different way;

and Himeya Mika, a young girl who chances upon the castle one day, and finds it empty and desolate...

This is their story.

i love this too much

I love you too pikachuu <3
I really hope you credited the folks who created the character sets, tilesets, etc. I noticed one of my character sets in Chapter 1 and I have yet to see any kind of credit sequence.

Edit: You've used multiple character sets of mine. *shrug*
Heya! :) I included a .txt file with full credits in the game folder, and the full game will have a proper credits sequence. Thanks for the heads up though, I'll definitely make it more prominent next time!

Can you let me know which ones were yours by the way by PM? I think I might have accidentally credited someone else instead who posted a few sets online (but who might not have been the one to make them). Thanks!
Okay...there's so many hints of spoilers of what I'm about to say
The cliffhangers are seriously killing me!!!
Ah curiosity does kills the cat :3
(sorry for the bad grammar)
And I hope I'm right and at the same not right about the Messiah XD. I feel bad news about it.

I wish to answer the simple questions:
1. What do you think of the game so far?
- I got to say it was very interesting; the thrill, the mystery and the connections of the character sides. It's like science recreating the religion, in a twisted way. I think..

2. Who are generally your favourite characters, and why?
- Lenine, because he's the only playable male character...just kidding. Actually, the 3 main chars. are my favorite. Why? I want to know who exactly are they. The mystery of their pasts.

3. What are some questions you want answered the most in the full game?
- The connection of the books, experiments of the cardinal, and the mystery of the side characters. Like for examples, who's that Rothwell boy? The eye color of Lenine from his past differentiate from the present, how? So basically, the whole game.

4. What do you predict are answers to these questions?
- Well, the Messiah must be Lenine or Rothwell. Anyu, Lenine and Mica is one of the experiments like Himeya? Rothwell is Anyu? Or is it Rothwell and Lenine are both the same person? Is Micaiah one of the inner circles. My mind is jumbled up, I know.

5. Which characters do you find the most curious or interesting? (Can overlap with #1)
- Himeya Mika, I mean come on, she look so innocent and she was cursed and imprisoned and treated badly...and she just needed a hug ; w;

6. What do you generally think of the story so far?
- Very, very interesting. The cliffhangers are just killing me.

7. What particular scene(s) did you like in the demo?
- The funny and calm interactions with NPCs and mostly, getting chased and...with the countdowns. Ib made me like this...

8. Favorite chapter and protagonist?
- 3 and Lenine, like what I said in #3, the eye color change and also mirror avoidance. It's like he is a vampire of some sort.

9. … Pairings/Ships, do you have any?
- ...I'm a bit embarrassed, but Lenine/Micaiah, Lenine/Euphony, Himeya/Rothwell...or Himeya/Lenine? Sue me TT wTT

10. Was it scary?
- Yep...chapter 1 killed me. That woman in the balcony. I didn't expect it at all lol.

11. What’s your favourite part to play through?
- Getting chased

12. Take a random screenshot!
- I'm not on my PC...too bad =w=. Maybe next time lol
How lovely game... Hahaha !!!
nice art... go'a try...
Really cool!! like this game soo much.. ^^
Great story and cute character. ^0^
Love it so much! When this has been completed, I would be surprised not to see it in top horror rpg lists. The story is amazing, execution is great, love the puzzles, not to mention the game simply looks beautiful. This is everything I look for in a puzzle/horror rpg. However, if I had one criticism, it would be that the flashbacks are a bit long for my taste. Spreading them out or adding gameplay would make it much easier to stay focused and interested. Otherwise I am in love!
It's allready over 1 1/2 Years since the release of Chapter 3.
Do you still work on the Game?
Oh my GOD. This game is AMAZING--I.... I need MORE OF IT! PLEASE!!! BABY!!! FINISH THIS MASTERPIECE. AAAAAAAAAAAAA.

(Though I am stuck at this 5-digit puzzle right now..... Jesus help me.)
The puzzles are very intuitive and keep you on your toes.
I especially liked the Hellfire Math Puzzle, because it really forced me to THINK before I realized, I made one miscalculation that was throwing the formula off.
There's a lot of paying attention to detail (cell door, fighting zombies) the player has to do, and I can appreciate that.

I truly enjoy the reference to Sayo Yasuda (Kanon / Shannon) and I really hope that they survived the zombie outburst. ;u; (How else will they meet Battler?! *cries*)

The story itself is enjoyable too, I'm all about this karma system that seems to be thematic; but, I was talking with my brother about how "unfair" it is.
Like...
Hear me out.

Okay, so; hypothetically speaking this guy comes at you with a gun, and in self-defence you kill him first.
The Karma of the Goddess makes you also die if you kill him. Divine Punishment and crap.
BUT........
If he shoots you, he gets away with it?
Like, what?
Where's HIS Divine Punishment? He just killed a holy prophet -- where's his karma? Where's his spooky scary whispering ladies tearing him apart?

That's some bull.
This game is beautiful yet dark at the same time.
I'm not very good with games where you switch perspectives (because I tend to attach myself to a certain character) but this one is nice... The princess is the most blank character for me. Other than the fact that she can help people, that she's lovely and beautiful, as well as lazy... and that she's very confident... she looks like a mysterious blank slate. Lenine seemingly hasn't changed from his past, although he does look like he's very casual with the princess at times... and that he's got the, "no choice, I'll do it" which makes me relate to him a little more...
although I sometimes can't help but feel bad for him. Like the princess, he's a mystery to me, despite the past being revealed to me.
Mika is really pitiful. I can't help but feel for her, too... And the sad thing is that this sort of happens in real life. You're a doctor, loved and revered, respected and esteemed for helping people... but there are things you just can't do. So, when you can't help them... all of a sudden, you're a bad person. All of a sudden, you're weak... and you can't help but blame yourself for it, as well.
It's possible for it to numb you eventually... but for the poor girl, it all happened at once, and she has it worse because she's not just esteemed as a doctor, she's almost seen as a goddess. There's also the issue of the priestess and Dai... LIke I told someone once, if all the lights go all out, and there's only one light left in this darkness that seemingly consumes everything...
you will do whatever you can to cling to that light. You can't help it."
If she's going to go on like that, eventually it will consume her and turn her into a mindless, numb monster with nothing but hatred and bloodlust in her mind.
Hopefully little boy over there will help her overcome it; although he did experience a loss, too... I wonder how to go about it?
This game is thought-provoking, particularly with this character, and I am looking forward to more.
(Still worrying about the other characters, particularly Castor... He's rather mean. I know that he sees his mom as right and from his perspective, I probably would've agreed with her... but just blindly looking at one side won't help him... the thing is, whether right or wrong, that won't matter to him. She, the girl he hates, and his mother hates, killed his mother and made an awful mess of her corpse as well.*Gulp* Things won't go easy for Mika, even apart from that so called curse she has... What Mika did was very wrong, and this is probably also choking her on the inside. She really should confront her past eventually; and deal with it. She's really got it bad.)
Welp, I finally got to finish Chapter 3. (I hear Chapter 4 is done and 5 is underway...! U-update when? Such a cliffhanger..!

So here's the Q&A

1. I AM ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT. The puzzles are super-challenging/thought-provoking (which I like, kinda tired of brain dead puzzles) and the story has me incredi-curious.

2. Easily it's Micaiah, with her seemingly dank backstory and surprisingly capable combat-skills despite being so nice and lazy. It made me laugh, to be honest. Shoutouts to Euphy for cute smugness and Kanon for secretly being Shanon.

3. Do Witches Exist? What is Mica and Micaiah's secret relationship if they have one? Why are there so many magical people? What is this dark plague? Does the Goddess Exist?

4. Yes. They're both descendant of the devil. Inherited magic? Probably caused by the mysterious darkness. Surely she exists.

5. WHO THE HECK IS THE HOOD GUY? IS THAT THE DEVIL? Who is the cute little Rhume and why do they not have a portrait? (Loved their drawings.) I want more art of the little q.t.

6. It's filled of plot twists and I hunger for more.

7. Some of the death scenes were good. (Divine punishment!) (I'm sorry.) Voice acting is pretty kay tooo~

8. See question #2.

9. Not really, but I'm a platonic cad who's oblivious to romance. *Sweats*

10. I'm not one to be stirred by mere pixels on a screen, but, as far as pixel horrors go, it was definitely nerve wracking. Made me forced to think and not panic.. So it def had my adrenaline go up.

11. All of it.

12. Here you go.

Ah, I just loved this game, so I'm gonna answer the questions, and btw, I really liked the Umineko references ;)

1. What do you think of the game so far?
It's really great ! The gameplay is fun, without being too easy nor too hard (I still needed the walktrough but that's just because I'm stupid).
2. Who are generally your favourite characters, and why?
I really like Mika because she's well developped, and I kinda like Lenine, even if we don't know much about him yet.
3. What are some questions you want answered the most in the full game?
"Is the Goddess real or is a part of Her story real?", "Why do Mika and Micaiah have powers?" and such...
4. What do you predict are answers to these questions?
I can't predict it,but I think there are some parts of the Goddess story that is true, or at least there is something magic because of the presence of the Things.
5. Which characters do you find the most curious or interesting? (Can overlap with #1)
Everyone ? Like, I would like to know more about them.
6. What do you generally think of the story so far?
The story is really intriguing and interesting. I really enjoy the concept.
7. What particular scene(s) did you like in the demo?
I like the beginning of the Chapter 2. Well, even if a like scary things, positive stuff can't hurt !
8. Favorite chapter and protagonist?
Chapter 1 and 3 !
9. … Pairings/Ships, do you have any?
Hm, I don't have a lot a ships in general, so, no?
10. Was it scary?
Yeah, espcially Chapter 1 and Chapter 2.
11. What’s your favourite part to play through?
Idk.
12. Take a random screenshot!
Sorry, I don't have any ;;

(Sorry for my broken english)
I wonder if the game is dropped. Because it's 2 Years since the last release/ update.
The Webside is down too.

Hi all!

I’m sorry for the lack of responses lately - a month or two ago, I lost all my data from my computer, including the updated versions of Chapter 4-5. It’s really incredibly disappointing and I want to continue working on it, but remaking it will probably take a while. Many people have been asking if there’s been any updates and I’m sorry it took so long for me to tell you all about this, it’s just been a bit of a shock. Nonetheless I’m still hoping to be able to piece some things together and to at least decrypt the version of Chapter 3 I have released so I can continue working on it. Thanks for your patience!
i LOVE this game and its just so good :D i really do love this game. cant wait for chapter 4 this is my favorite rpg so far <3
Hi guys! So all that AnimeGirl quoted is true - I am currently in the midst of trying to remake the parts that I lost, and the game is still in progress! Thanks so much for the patience and support!
