Father Demo Is Up, I kid you not

Yesterday, I attempted to upload a demo of Father but people got a bad game. That wasn't the game I wanted you to test. In short, I had taken development from a Linux to a PC, then I patched everything, put the game in separate directories and to make matters worse, I used a powerpatched rpg engine. This caused conflicting writing and reading issues but everything is fine as of now.

But everything should be okay. I tested it in every location possible on my PC. You should be able to download, extract, and play by using the afm game starter. Please enjoy the game, the real demo. Sorry I couldn't get it up earlier. I had to do a lot of pre Easter work. I hope you all enjoy your Easter Sunday. Don't eat too much candy.

So, I did played through it somehow. I finished woody area over Nutty Village and took a train to Pistachio City. There i got destroyed by Dragon Wang (I entered the void). What do I think? Your walking pace is horribly slow and got me bored in a minute. I didn't find bike in the demo (the bestest feature). Fights are boring, probably in Mother series's fashion. Overlay in the forest is unnatural. Very first dialogues are neither good or funny (descriptions in your house need some work as well).
On the other hand, graphics are really stunning. And some game mechanics pretty interesting.
So far I haven't got hooked in.

I understand. After all this is an alpha. Intro dialogue is crap, it was just for testing purposes.

I'm making the walk speed faster. I just thought it would be a throwback to the old pokemon games and make it much more interesting once you get the bike. The bike is in a box outside your house. Use the number keys to use it.

Some people love the battle system, others hate it. I'll try to find a mid point. What exactly made them boring? This is a good place for me to ask because nothing is set in stone as of yet and the battle system could use a bit of an upgrade. However, remember that the system was inspired by this: (skit to 5:30 for battle system used)

If it wasn't for me playing this game, I don't think Father would have even been thought of. Overall, this game is an homage to older games which may have suffered from lack of processing power. I'll try to make it more charming.

Again, it's an alpha demo. Most things are likely to change. But, this game is an acquired taste. If you haven't really played old GB games or Mother/Pokemon...it will probably be a miss. Thanks for your feedback. I understand that I can't please everyone but I'll try to make an effort.

It probably sounded harsher than I intended it to. I'm dumbo, that I missed the bike-including box. At least you can see, that you can't presume anything about player and I usually tend to click on everything.
Battle system worked with mushrooms. You could kill them in one, two rounds. But fighting the other enemy type was boring. It works well when the battle is fast. But it's extremely limiting. Frankly, You need one type of enemy. I know you have some statuses and poisoning to add some flavor to it, but I don't think it will help (it can, tho). In the case of the frog, It's more about life management. You can go down this path as well. Then, you need various enemy types only for the look of it.
Nevertheless, It can work out either way. You know, as you progress through you got more interested in the game, you catch it's rhyme. Sometimes short demo doesn't make a good banner.

I haven't gone too far in the game, but i have to say, great artwork and nice choice of music.

Found abit of bug when i press the menu button while conversation going...
From there on, the MC only face the same direction.
Then... it crashes...

I haven't gone to far, but it seems promising...

Battle system is classic, fast paced and not forcefull..
I am not really into random encounter tho, It forces you to grind and unless you can capture the monster or some sort of reward (even pokemon fails this) grinding is a very tedious gameplay mechanics.

I'll try playing it again soon.

It crashes abit too early and for some reason, since the text can't be skipped,
i am not so keen to go back again somehow.

Wow, great catch! What happened was at the start of every event, a switch called well.."Event" is turned on that prevents any outside key funtions. I forgot to turn it on XD. Once again, great find! I fixed it in a matter of seconds. In the meantime, just don't press X during that opening event. Text can be skipped by pressing the "Shift" key during a text box. Scenes can't be skipped however.

Glad you liked the feeling of the game thus far. I'm working on making it more accessible to players that don't like to walk slow and stuff.
