A visual delight.

Story
Dreaming Mary is about a girl(Mary) who is voyaging into her dreams. She is 'warned' that venturing too deep into a dream could cause her to stay asleep forever. Though kept vague, the goal of the game consists of Mary trying to wake up, or partially explore her dreamworld. The antagonistic force of the story is whoever/whatever may be trying to make sure Mary never wakes up. It's a simple premise, but the overall story really makes you think. A surreal experience. 8/10

Characters
This was well done. The main heroine, Mary, has an appearance that reminds me of an anime called Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Yet the integration of Mary is unique, and probably original. It is often hard to give main characters their very own personalities, and the developer still pulled it off. Even without much dialogue Mary's personality beams with innocence. The supporting cast comes with four dreamworld friends, whom are all quite distinguishable from each other. One of the friends, Boaris, might be the secret antagonist of the game(depending on perception). Boaris tries urging Mary to delve deeper into her dreams. There is also a black blob in the form of a nightmare, which could possibly be Boaris' true form. To be frank, I enjoyed the cast. 9/10

Visual
Pretty much the game's selling point. Coupled with an interesting game description, the artwork was what drove me to download Dreaming Mary. Bright but not tacky, a visually appealing mix of color floods your environment. The tilesets were crisp. The custom made characters looked great too. Not enough can be said about how good the visual is. 10/10

Gameplay
The fabulous designs got my attention, the game description made me download. And finally, the solid gameplay was why I finished the game. To be honest I only finish games I like, such as Dreaming Mary. However, the gameplay was not without weaknesses. The game was short, though the extra content and restarts made up for it a bit. Sometimes interaction with events was a tad iffy; for example, having to be in a certain spot to talk with dream residents. While secret rooms were a great bonus and I loved the black blob for the suspense it added, I felt I'd of never found these areas without the help of a walkthrough page. Getting certain endings was slightly too technical for my tastes. I still think the gameplay is good. 7/10

Overall
I would recommend this game. It's always a bonus when a game has custom graphics that are actually decent. Just too short for me, I really wish I could give Dreaming Mary a higher rating.

Solid review. I think the multiple endings were made technical to add on game-time, as you said, it's rather short.
