The story of a SHERIFF and his CAT

STEEL WESTERN describes itself as being in the SPACE FUNERAL-LIKE GENRE, which is something I love seeing more of. SPACE FUNERAL was a fun time, and does a good job capturing the feeling. From the graphics to the music choices to the tone, it felt like getting a second helping of some Choice Eats.

So, yes, it's VERY MUCH LIKE Space Funeral, which means that if you did not like its RANDOM HUMOR or NONSENSICAL HAPPENINGS, you probably won't like this game. For me, the humor is very hit or miss -- some goofs I absolutely loved, others not so much.

This kind of deadpan statement always gets me.

For the most part, however, I had a fun time talking to all the wacky people in the world and the game itself was convenient to play. While the battle system is not deep or anything, the battles themselves were fine and I got through the demo without grinding or anything. There's lots of little conveniences for the player -- merchants double as a free heal and are abundant, and you can find experience points as a reward from exploration or sidequests. This made playing the game pretty painless, which let me get into the vibe a lot better.

The plot is simple: while checking out the RANDOM DEATHS of cattle around town, the SHERIFF is transported to the PURPLE LANDS by the PHYSICAL GOD, who threatens to destroy the world. You search for a way to stop the PHYSICAL GOD along with CAT, a being of magical energy, and the demo ends once you clear the PURPLE LANDS area. There’s some optional content and I’ll confess I spent an embarrassing amount of time in the Onlion Arena. My playtime was a little over an hour, and that’s with lots of faffing about.

There's a sprinkling of Memes™ which may or may not be your thing also.

Overall I had a great time with STEEL WESTERN and even in this incomplete form it's something I HEARTILY RECOMMEND if you're a fan of SPACE FUNERAL.
