A Setback

I've learned the importance of having a backup hard drive the hard way. My current drive which contains almost everything, this project included, just packed up. The drive has been giving me issues for the past month but because of my exams I didn't find the time to back up anything. It came to a point where the drive was not being read by the PC. According to an IT guy I know, he determined it to be a hardware issue, not a software one. He believes it to be a problem with the USB controller of the drive. Fixing it may be possible, but it will definitely be expensive, and I simply don't have the finances to fix it at the moment. And even then, recovering any of the files on drive is not guaranteed. So I potentially risk losing most if not all of the data on my hard drive.

Regarding this project, it's not that much of a major setback as I was still gathering resources and scripts, and making custom sprites. I was still in the early stages of development or should I say restarting the project from scratch. Regaining all of the resources will prove challenging as some of the sites where I got them are no longer active, so I may have to improvise. Updates were already slow and now this happens. This project will be on hiatus for the time being.

Final(?) migration from XAS to The Lycan ABS.
Reasons: Better Performance and Compatibility with other scripts.
This page will be overhauled one day once I make significant progress, either that or I'll make an entirely new page. Haven't decided yet.

I have successfully implented XAS into my project. Recently I tried to
compare XAS with Blizz-Abs, testing the compatibility of both systems with
my existing scripts. Surprisingly XAS was proven to be most compatible with
certain scripts that Blizz-Abs had problems with. My only issue was trying
to include allies into the fold. XAS 4.0 was promised years ago but it never
came. Drago took it upon himself to expand on the current latest version of XAS
and implement his own ally system. I was surprised to see how well Drago integrated
this ally system into XAS's system. This is why I use Drago's XAS demo as base
of my project. Currently I have set the maximum number of party members to 6.

March 2022 Progress

I've decide to change the battle system entirely from ACBS to XAS. I
liked ACBS for its fast-pace ATB battles and traditional RPG mechanics,
but I wanted to make the more interactable. Customisation of scripts and
sprites is less tedious, although use of events do add extra work but it
is manageable.

I started this project since I was in the 6th grade and it has come a long
way since then, with many revamps and only one demo release. It was not even
that good a demo I admit, but hey, I was young and heavily influenced by anime
which caused me to make a lot of cringy scenes. Life happens and I do not always
find the time to work on this project, but I'll be damned if I give up on it
now. I don't care how long it takes me, I will finish this project. Working on
two different stories as well as attending university is very exhausting.

I prefer RPG Maker XP as opposed to the more recent versions of RPG Maker. I
contemplated using RPG Maker VX Ace and MV at some point, but I feel more
comfortable using XP. If I was skilled in unity or unreal engine, I would've
used it by now. I would've loved for this project to be 3D open world game.
I did try to do something with unity, but then I realised that I would've had
to put a lot more time than I do now in this project, and I have a lot in mind
for this game. Learning to code is also another story. So I've just decided that
I might as well just stick with something small and relatively more easy to use.

Current Status

Story Completion/Lore: 11%

*Tried to make a guideline story for reference sake. Decided to just wing it as
I have another story in the making that was potentially a future project, but I
have some good ideas for the main and side story that I want to insert. Still
trying to think of the lore for the game.

Map Design: 25%

*I believe this to be the biggest headache, nevermind the eventing.

Event Making: 30%

*I'd say I'm about average in skill when it comes to making events.

Character Designs and Related Graphics: 35%

*Character sprites and face graphics are easy enough to customize.
The avatars are the hard part (Only for the main characters). I've
tried drawing them myself, but I suck at digital drawing, so I've taken
to using customized Naramura resources and various web character art.
This section also includes npcs and other character/object sprites, but
these are mainly sprites found on various websites. Currently organizing
everything for easy access. Hard to find the proper permissions for resources
used, but the game is non-commercial so I'll take no credit for any resource
used.

Animation and Effects: 80%

*Found some decent animations on various sites. Very little customization
is needed though.

Scripting: 90%

*Thankfully, the most I've done in terms of scripting is customization.

General Graphics (Panamoras, Fogs, Interface, Icons, In-Game Pictures): 60%

*About in the middle in terms of priority. Fogs and Pans are easy enough
to find. The menu interface like, title screen or pause menu etc are more
concerning for me. I am trying to find a style that complements the tone
of the game.

Miscellaneous (i.e Abilities and Magic, Items, Weapons and Clothing, Game System, etc): 50%

*Goes without saying what this is. This can be completed in a short amount of
time but is currently the lowest priority item at the moment.

Music: 100%

*I heavily rely on music to give me inspiration. Ironically, the Audio
folder will be the largest file in terms of size compared to the overall
game size.

Life happens and I will not work on this project constantly.

January 2022 UPDATE #2.5

I've decide to change the battle system entirely from ACBS to XAS action battle system. While ACBS was cool and all and used the typical RPG game elements like turn-based combat, I simply found XAS to be far better
and entertaining. Another reason is that I want this game to be more interactive. It has a variety of options and made it relatively more easier to work with in terms of customizing sprites, as opposed to making individual battle sprites. I'm currently making all the necessary sprites and events along with everything else that needs doing.

I know I constantly promise to do this and that, but life happens and we do what we must. I started this project since I was in 6th grade and it has come a long way since then, with many revamps and only one demo release. It was not even that good a demo I admit, but hey, I was young and heavily influence by lots of anime. As I got older and started thinking rationally, I began thinking of a proper story with meaning.
I'll be damned if I give up on it now. I don't care how long it takes me, but I will finish this project. Working on two different stories as well as attending university is very exhausting.

Don't know why but I prefer RPG Maker XP as opposed to the more recent versions. I contemplated using

and resources to use.
