Magic is a curse. A plague upon the world and those that live in it. Those that are born with this curse unwittingly sap the mana from the earth they stand in. In order to prevent these abominations from draining away the world's lifeblood, they are locked away in a castle in an isolated dimension. It is in this castle that the cursed are to remain, removed from society so that their magic does not harm normal people. They are to be kept here for the rest of their miserable lives.

At least, that's the way it should have been...

Suddenly, a loud crash is heard. A young girl, kept apart from the rest of the castle, looks up from the ground. The magical barrier that prevented her escape slowly dissipates. Standing up, she pushes open the gate and finds her first taste of freedom. Guide her as she teams up with a renegade mage boy to search for the truth behind the castle, her unique magic, and a way to escape.

Winner of the 2014 Indie Game Maker Contest.

Features:

- A simple, but deep Spell Fusion system that allows for lots of experimentation.
- A twist on traditional turn-based combat via MP charging.
- 3 different endings.

Ah, makerscore bonus!
So I got around to finally playing this last night. A rare example of a game that uses minimal appeal for maximum entertainment value. That skill fusion system is amazing but can make the game a tad too easy. XD I love the writing so far and those sprites and portraits give the characters so much life. I would write a review, but with 7 reviews and a 4,5 star average, I'll probably just be re-iterating what everyone else has said before me. =)

Who knows, I might take inspiration from it, forgo the custom route for my IGMC entry and try to work with the bare bones of vanilla RMVXace.

But yes. Well done, Nova, Uni and Sooz. :D You deserved every last penny from your winnings.

Yeah this game is flippin awesome :) I'm in the same boat as you for the review boat... I might do it eventually but there's been so many good reviews that mine would be a drip in the ocean.

Thanks so much, Luchino! I'm so psyched you like it! :D

In my WELL KNOWN, UNDENIABLE BIAS, I would love to see your thoughts on the game listed out in more detail, so I'd never say no to more reviews from either you or Cash (or both).
Well, it would give me more makerscore. =) It may have to wait until mid-August though.

Makerscore is life.

I don't mind if it takes a while. I'll be looking forward to reading it whenever it does.

I wanted to do a review back when it first came out but eventually positive reviews came flooding in for this game and I figured my review wasn't needed besides I was able to give them some feedback when the game was still in it's contest build stage so I can still feel like I contributed a bit.

Anyway, Red_Nova, Unity and Sooz I am very happy for your success. :D

I'm basically happy anytime anyone validates my existence, whether by review or just a comment, so thanks! :D
This game was beautiful! I spent so much time trying out almost every magic combination I could think of. I was expecting a lot from this game and I received it! Great game with a new twist to Turn-Based Battle System. To the Maker(s) Congrats on a great game! It was a well thought out and beautiful told story!

Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it ^_^
I just played it for the first time. Very well-done gameplay. I cannot get bored because of the challenging enemy encounters.

I can't remember how much changed between the deluxe edition and the IGMC edition, but it's impressive that this core idea was executed within a month.

Thanks so much!

The Deluxe version has a new dungeon, new Innate abilities/Spell Fusions, as well as some more overall polish. We didn't touch the original version out of respect for the contest.

Wait, new dungeon? Which dungeon wasn't in the commercial edition? I'm sorry, I've only played the commercial version.

Unless I read Zach's post wrong, he was what was new in the Deluxe version. The Deluxe version is not the commercial version, as it was released before the winners were even announced.

Oh, OK. But which dungeon was the new one? Because I've only played the commercial version and I didn't know one of the dungeons was new.

Edit: Sorry, I meant which dungeon was in the commercial version. Or rather, the deluxe version, now that you've clarified... basically, which dungeon wasn't in the IGMC version.

The Prison of Flesh was added to the game in the Deluxe version.
