Magic is a curse. A plague upon the world and those that live in it. Those that are born with this curse unwittingly sap the mana from the earth they stand in. In order to prevent these abominations from draining away the world's lifeblood, they are locked away in a castle in an isolated dimension. It is in this castle that the cursed are to remain, removed from society so that their magic does not harm normal people. They are to be kept here for the rest of their miserable lives.

At least, that's the way it should have been...

Suddenly, a loud crash is heard. A young girl, kept apart from the rest of the castle, looks up from the ground. The magical barrier that prevented her escape slowly dissipates. Standing up, she pushes open the gate and finds her first taste of freedom. Guide her as she teams up with a renegade mage boy to search for the truth behind the castle, her unique magic, and a way to escape.

Winner of the 2014 Indie Game Maker Contest.

Features:

- A simple, but deep Spell Fusion system that allows for lots of experimentation.
- A twist on traditional turn-based combat via MP charging.
- 3 different endings.

Oh, interesting. Now I'm wondering how much of a different experience the original contest version would have been, since the new zone is one of the most meaty (heh) zones gameplay-wise, really fleshing out (oh dear) the game quite immensely.

But yeah, I tried writing a review for this game, but it turned out to be one of those "backspace everything I write because it doesn't describe it well enough" moments. I've been in that mode lately, and it's quite the hard thing to crack.
^that's the exact reason I've only ever written 2 reviews on this site xD
Also 'tis a fun game indeed, I'm enjoying it <3

You're magical to me.

We had made the Prison of Flesh, but had to cut it because of time restrictions.

Yay, glad you're enjoying it :D

I finally did it. I wrote a review for this game.

I might seem like I'm gushing over every Red Nova/unity game, but that's just because I haven't written a review for Psychostasis yet.

I haven't finished the game, but... let's just wait for the review until I say anything about that.

But for now, Remnants is a beautiful game and hopefully my voice doesn't just echo what everyone else has said before, adding nothing and generally being another unnecessary opinion. Oh well, at least it'll add to the buzz.

Thanks, Cash! No such thing as an unnecessary opinion, at least when it comes to a review.

I mean, I don't think it's a bad thing to gush over games that are good... :V
2014 IGMC were good times. I remember going in and thinking "I'm sure most of these are better than mine, but at least I finally finished something and tried!" Then I played a bunch that weren't quite up to standard. I enjoyed them, but I could tell where they went wrong and whatnot. Remnants of Isolation was not one of those games. I could instantly tell it was quality and was not surprised in the slightest that it won the contest.

I played the game once during the contest before the results were out. I still remember it pretty vividly. I remember quite enjoying the story and elements of it, such as the main character only speaking with music. The game was well balanced, the battle system was tight and focused on two characters working together (which was executed well), and I remember the endings being pretty dark.

So yeah, congrats on being released commercially! How has that been going?

Thanks for the kind words, zDS. I'm so thrilled you enjoyed it, and I could say pretty much the same things about Cope Island! The game's doing about as well as you'd expect, given the flood of new arrival on Steam every day. Critically, it's done surprisingly well!
Holy crap, I was waiting for Prayer of the Faithless impatiently when I decided to go through some of your older work, Red.

This game is short, heartrending(I was recording and when I first got a game over I was like "Wow, WTF", and the second ending just made me cry actual tears, and only gets more heartbreaking when you realize what the line of text before the credits ACTUALLY MEANS), sweet, and just all around awesome the whole way through.

My only complaint is that the first ending is a little counterintuitive to get. Fortunately, you remedy this somewhat by making sure that the first ending is also the last one you'll get, meaning that we already know that there are 3 endings the first time we get a ending!

Yeah, thanks so much hector! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Is it okay to give a review of the Steam version here?

I don't see why not as long as you specify which version you played in the review.
My first attempt at a live stream will feature this game. I'm going to try to live stream Remnants of Isolation on September 4th 9:00PM Eastern Standard Time.

I will edit in a link on this post once I go live.

Hope it all works out. :D

Instead of editing it in, I'd say make a new post for the link, for the people who might be on but not obsessively F5ing. ;)

I was thinking you'd do a media submission, actually. You'd get more MS that way :P

Well, I suppose you still can, after it's all said and done?
