In a world of monsters and kings there is a legend of a great evil that appears every 500 years to ravage the countryside. It is at this time that a hero appears bearing the mark of light to quell the darkness and return peace to the lands. It is an ancient tale that has been repeated time and time again without change. Until one day the evil returns...20 years earlier than normal. The search for the hero begins and the people scour the lands until they find their champion with the mark of light...in a crib. Can the hero of light stand a chance against the forces of darkness in this state? That all depends on you.

This is you. The Hero of Light. You must use your wits, skills and fast crawling to conquer the dungeons and defeat The Darkness.
D is for Dungeon is your classic dungeon crawler with a few twists. Enemies await you around every corner.
Preparation is key as one wrong move or point in the wrong stat may lead to certain doom. That is until you respawn and respec your characters.
Failure is only what you make of it in this world so experiment as much as you want. Find the layout that works best for you.

Features:

-Active Time Battle System with up to 4 party members. Use your wits to act before the monsters do.

-3 different difficulties. Choose "Casual", "Hardcore" or "Grinder" to fit your play-style.

-Make the characters all your own by customizing all the parameters each level and choosing up to 66 skills to equip.

-Choose your allies wisely from among 12 unique classes from "Armsmaster" to "Pyrolancer" to "Sentinel".

-Traverse 25 floors in 4 unique locales crawling with treasures, monsters and puzzles.

-No random encounters. Monsters roam the floors and chase the player when they spot them.

This is my first completed RPG Maker game and submission for the Humble Bundle Indie Contest.
It should take you a good afternoon to finish on the harder difficulties.
Have fun! I know I had a lot of fun making it.

Aren't we all Gourd? Aren't we all?
It said "Unable to find Game Over font." The font is there, but not in the fonts-files. Once I moved it there, it started just fine.
Minor issue, but should be easy to fix

Whoops. I had updated the fix to that in my mediafire link but forgot to update it here. It's fixed now. :)
Just for curiosity's sake .. where do you get gems from? Are they dropped/in chests or are they available at the merchant later on?
I wasn't expecting to play a game and review it for the Summer Review Jam, but after seeing this game I might just have to participate.

They're in red chests every 6th floor. Just in time for the boss fight. Feel free to try any class that strikes your fancy.

Fan of the old-school I take it? That's one impressive Makerscore you've got there... I mean wow... Looking forward to hearing what you think!

Hope you both enjoy it!
Beaten on normal - whoo! Although the end was a breeze.
I was awfully stuck at the beginning .. my own fault for choosing a mage right from the start when you can respec.

The puzzles were very clever, the dungeon design very solid with good progression, party and character customization .. all in all a great game. No custom-made graphics or music, but well put together.
Will probably write a review, but not sure about the star rating right now.

But have been wondering, are you supposed to find the majority of armor/weapons in chests? If so, the prices for these were too low in the shop. You could easily buy full equipment before you go out to the new areas.

And you can learn special-hero skills later on .. does your build come into play? Since I got mage-stuff. Probably not, but just wondering.

Edit: Shiiit, I totally forgot about what I had in the oven... curse your game! : D Review will be up soon!
The baby learns a lot of great skills but I wanted to give players the option to use whatever they wanted. Haste and slow are pretty great though. Not going to lie.
Good to hear you liked the visuals and music too! I always preferred the look of the 2000 graphics to VX although I did make a few edits to the graphics myself.(Pitfighter, Pyrolancer and Acolyte specifically.)
Thanks for the comment! Sounds like you enjoyed yourself! Looking forward to seeing more in the review. I will be releasing an update with better treasures, a new title screen by an actual artist, a more engaging final boss battle (I ran out of time around this point), as well as several improvements to address common complaints I've been receiving. Make it the best it can be before I really get started on any of the other many game ideas I have.

Well yes, I be enjoying my babywarrior :)

Just wondering why when I level up it looks like the pts. I add to any stat does not take. Is there a sequence of keys to hit?
I scroll down to the state I want to increase and hit accept but when I go back in the pts are still sitting up top and stat does not increase.

Am I doing something wrong ??
you need to press right to distribute a point in the currently selected category (left to set them back if you did not lock in yet), then leave the menu and accept.
Well, I managed to beat the game on normal this afternoon. I'll have to think about some of my thoughts on the game and spend some time recording the game as well since I'd prefer to post a video review on youtube.

A video review? Cool! Looking forward to whenever it's complete. :)

I hope you were able to overcome any difficulties you had with that and were able to enjoy yourself!
Well, after doing a Let's Play on the casual setting for the game I finally got a review up for the game. Though, it might be a bit out of date already since I played the version of the game submitted to the contest. So, it doesn't include the most recent set of updates meant to address the balance issues that I bring up.

Thanks for the review! I'm sort of regretting putting casual mode into the game at this point. I totally underestimated how many people would be put off by the names of the higher difficulties. XD
Well, I originally played and beat the game on the hardcore setting. I simply chose to do the Let's Play on the casual level in order to lessen the amount of grinding work I would need to do. Basically, it was a time saving measure more then anything.
dig your shop music & atmosphere!
You know the value of shop music! :)
I bought so much more in your game than in many other games! just kidding hihi
Wow! I love the new title screen added for the 2.0 update.

I played the original version you made for the Indie Game Maker Contest. Really enjoyed it. Can't wait to play through it again with the various improvements.
