Huh. Could have sworn it did when you went to get the airship. I might be misremembering but hey, Chrono Trigger can take its place. Magus' Castle, running up the stairs doing the ol' Donkey Kong with monsters. Diagonal stairs. It's been used in many games before.

Earthbound and Pokemon, if I remember correctly! Also I remember them from the lighthouse in To The Moon
I think it's more of a sidescroller thing though, but in that case it's not so much diagonal as in just sideways.
Flat stairs actually look kinda strange to me, with the whole no depth thing, but they're a lot easier to make for sure! You can kinda tell exactly where I gave up in the later areas...deadlines are a cruel mistress, lemme tell ya.

Also, Jesus, mathew, you could at least give credit to Nightmargin for doing your art and music for you by making him an official co-developer of your game. Give him some of that makerscore love; he could use it.

I didn't realize this was a feature of this website, thank you for telling me.

Also, thank you for revising your post to specifically mention what you disliked about the game. The large open area in the barrens is our least favorite part of the game, too. It's unfortunate that you didn't like the game, but we cannot change your personal preferences.

I played both. Yume Nikki and One Shot.
And this game is defianetly better :D
Yume has a good atmosphere, but no story and no relationship to the character.
The puzzles where confusing and I didn't really liked them...

But Oneshot is an overall great game.
It has a story.
It has a charcter who you care for and which is adorable <3
The puzzles are great.
The atmosphere and music too.
And the technique is amazing!

That's because it is inspired but not copied :D
But after all... I think you are just a troll...
Corfaisus isn't a troll. He's just... personally offended that a game he disliked is being praised?

to each his own, man!
hey Mathew. Any news on a newer release of this game being made? I remember seeing a small tumblr post about it but that was it.

Corfaisus, there's no need to be an ass. So you don't like games like this? Then move on. You had a say (all over the place, we get it, you don't like the game).

Honestly, it's not like there are a ton of other games (FF5, FF6 for example) that use the diagonal staircase effect. Or fangame of an indie game - Home for example (OFF fangame). So, you know, stop being a dick about it.

Frankly, I also played both and while there are some themes that are alike, it's not like Yume Nikki at all. Just like a lot of Earthbound-looking games aren't Earthbound.

To be fair. HOME is neither the first or the only fangame out there. It just happens to be the longest and most vocalized one. Continue Stop Rising also has an upload on this site, and is actually very popular in the Japanese OFF community, as is Unknown.

It's in the works. We can't say for sure when it'll be ready or what it'll include just yet, but we're planning to get it done by May. Congrats on your awards, by the way!

Prolly 'cause you only get ONE SHOT :P

...More seriously, though, last I checked it works if you play it on a different windows profile (can't speak for any other OS). I haven't figured out the mechanism the game uses to prevent replaying. My best guess is that it saves a tiny file somewhere and checks for it on startup, but I've never found where. I can think of some ways to find out (running it sandboxed comes to mind) but personally I'm not even sure I want to know, it seems like it'd ruin the effect.

On another note, anyone who thinks this game in a YN ripoff might have played like, two minutes of it max. I know I'm late to that flamewar but seriously, YN is a low-skill, low-content game. It was influential, sure, but at the end of the day it was still just something you poked until new items fell out and then UBOAAAAA and then you kill yourself the end. This game has a fantastic story that takes full advantage of the strengths of games as a medium, shows a lot of insight into human psychology, and is quite structured besides. I LOVE this game, it's genius.
I know how to reset the game... but I wont tell it, unless I'm not allowed to :D
It was not that hard to find :3

Would you be willing to divulge the secret? :D I have never enjoyed a game as much as I enjoyed Oneshot, and it kills me not to be able to replay it :(

Or if you don't want to give it up directly, could I at least get a hint at what I should be looking for?

Oh, I do have a request to not post the reset info publicly! You can do it in private of course, but we don't wanna accidentally spoil someone now, do we?
This was the best game I have ever played. EVER.

Sorry, I'm new to this site. Trying to learn as I go here.
Hi!
Can I ask for help? I downloaded the game correctly but I can't open it, every time I try, there is a message saying it won't open. So I tried to download it on another computer but there's the same problem, and one time, it succed but it closed itself like 3 second after and suddenly the application disapeared.
It does something like this :

I tried redownload it for two days now but nothing works... I realy wanna play this game so bad :( If someone know what to do I would be super thankful to know!
@Picoffee: I'm guessing something like Norton Anti-virus/spyware/etc is installed, and it removed the game exe as soon as you tried to launch it. I've seen that before on pcs. Disable it completely (because it's a garbage program anyway) or add an exception for the game (which can be a pain in the ass). If that's not the case, disregard!

I've had Norton delete programs as I compiled them when I was testing some other projects on Windows. I'm pretty sure this is the cause.
