A Long Overdue Status Update, and a Request

Hey, long time no see!

Right from the start, I want to apologize for such a long absence of updates. I had hoped to report back, with an update to the game soon to follow, but things are taking a bit longer than expected, namely a file corruption setting me back several weeks of progress... Yeah, that wasn't fun. Going forward I plan to have monthly status updates.

With that said, even with the setbacks, progress is coming along. Namely...

-Mapping is just about completed through the 7th gym.

-Every Pokemon's moveset and stats are configured in the game already. There are some changes from the stats/moves currently listed on the Pokemon RMN wiki. Once I do a bit more play-testing, I'll release a document with all the changes made.

-Points of criticism from both reviews and from comments are being addressed. This includes changing the "puzzle" of gym two, and adressing some points of vulgarity, to name a few.

-A few new gameplay mechanics, which I'll release more info on once I get some of the bugs ironed out.

-Dialogue/Events are currently complete up through just shy of the fourth gym, and are currently the main thing holding back a new demo.

-Some optimizations that will hopefully allow the game to run better on older PC's.

-Some secret shenanigans.

-Some bug fixes.

-And other general things that needed to be done.

My goal for the next demo is to have the game fully playable up through the 5th gym. I won't release an estimated release time quite yet, since I'm honestly not sure yet. However, with as much work done as there is, I wouldn't think it'd be too long before I have some new screenshots, and general details ready for the next demo.

Keep your chin held high, progress is just on the horizon.

The latter half of this post isn't really an update, but a call for help.

I briefly mentioned this in my first blog post, but I am very much seeking anyone interested in helping with pixel art for the project.

In particular, I'm seeking anyone willing to help out with creating overworld sprites for some of the Pokemon. My hope is to be able to create a lively world for the player to explore throughout their journey, and I feel that actually having Pokemon seen not only in battle, but all throughout the world would go a long way in making the world feel alive.

I understand that this would be a large task to ask of any one of you, and I certainly don't expect anyone to take on a 100+ sprite project for me, but I'm hoping to find some individuals that would be willing to help me out part of the way. I had found someone willing to help me out, unfortunately they ended up running off on me, so I'm kinda in a rough spot now. If anyone is interested in helping out, please get in contact with me, I'd be happy to have you on the team!

With that said, this will by no means delay progress on the demo. It's a feature I'd love to incorporate into the game, but not something I'd postpone the demo any further over.

Neato! I can't sprite for shit, but there was some people around here that were doing it, like Miracle, who should still be around and willing to help with that.

aww I wish I wouldve known during summer, I couldve helped out a lot more. There are about 1 and 1/2 weeks before school starts, are there any overworld sprites you want to prioritize? Here are some examples of previous sprites

Thank you Miracle for offering to help out! Sorry I didn't make this all public earlier, but even if you're too busy to help out too often, every little bit helps out immensely! :)

Judging from your examples, I take it you did most of the original sprite work? By the way, is the Tomamer sprite recent? I don't have it in any of the files Ratty sent me.

As for priority, I suppose I'd start with some of the early-game Pokemon, and their evolutions. The starters' evolved forms might be a good place to start. One special request I would like to make though, is for Ascape and Irritormen, both because I'd like to incorporate them into the ruins, and because they're personal favorites of mine.

It looks like you already did this with Swantweet, but just in case, feel free to make the sprites as large as you feel is needed. I mainly bring this up as I'd assume the final stages of the starters to be fairly tall.

Toribush, Flaregon ,Fairimp, Gustling, Swantweet ,Sesprit (male and female), Miceburg, Chibiwawa, Atmana, Afropup, Biseed, Phim, and Elink.

By the way Seiromem, I should have those moveset documents should be posted tomorrow. They've got a pretty long list of natural moveset tweaks, and TM comparability up through TM 60.

Hm, TM60? Ah, oh, hm, well, guess I'll just combine my suggestions with the ones Ratty compiled and such.
Also, are there only 97 TMs? Usually there's 100 even.
A bit later than I would have liked, but I have all the moveset files uploaded. I decided to make a public folder on Google Drive for anyone to view/edit. I'm sure I'll put more files on their in the future.

What do you think about having animations for the ascape line? They function kind of similarly to a 'mimic' in RPGs. Mimics don't usually walk around but I can make walking animations if needed. The sprite is intentionally less detailed than the others because it's more sinister and abstract

Lessee, Nightmare from GEN II looks cool. Steel Wing, definitely.
Hmmm, maybe Counter or Zap Cannon for the third one. Counter as it's not a tutor move like magic coat, but if you decide to just make counter a tutor move too then Zap Cannon
Or maybe bringing back Mega punch and kick. Those are kinda bland tho.

Anyhoot, time to do some distribution adjustments(maybe)!
They look great! Their animations look really smooth too, I'm impressed! They'll work perfectly for the ruins.

Having a walking sprite too would be pretty nifty, just to match with the other Pokemon (hint-hint, nudge-nudge). They don't really have legs, so I'd imagine they'd either bounce their pot, or drag themselves around with their hands.

I like the idea of bringing Nightmare back, really underrated move. Steel wing sounds good too (didn't even realize it wasn't on the list).

Of the other options, I'd say Zap Cannon looks the best to me. In that case, I could make Counter/Mirror Coat tutor moves.

I can imagine having two rivaling siblings, one convinced close-up physical attacks are better, and teaches Counter, while to other things long-distance special attacks to be the better strategy, and teaches Mirror Coat.

Uh, looks like someone deleted the list of TM relearned and movepool revisions from the shared files.
It's good to see there's some new life to this project. I'm no artist, but if there's anything else that I can do to help PkmnRMN get finished, feel free to let me know. I was pretty involved before, so I'm definitely eager to see it finally release.

Huh, odd. They're still showing up for me. They are Google Doc files, so you'd probably have to signed into a google account, if you aren't already. If nothing else, I'll just upload them as a zip file for download.

Also just a heads up to everyone, university started back up this week. It shouldn't affect all too much, but it might take a couple days to get back to people.
I am late but this here is a late Birthday Present for me (Mah birthday was the 19th) can't wait till the game is ready to be played!
