INTRODUCTION

First off, let me start by saying that the content I've seen in the Omnis demo are quite frankly very unique and well-made and this ranges from things such as the setting, the characters, the art and even the battles and the enemies themselves.

It’s a game that will grab your attention with its distinct flair and overall mood but at the same time, it doesn't doze off and become tiring or uninteresting. The entire demo is quite a ride if you’re paying attention to the story, and even if you’re in it just for the gameplay, you’ll still be left fairly satisfied with its simple but engaging battles.

STORY & CHARACTERS

The story in Omnis begins by following the efforts of two characters, Skyler and Orphan, as they attempt to complete a vague (to the player) mission that was assigned to them. And as it becomes apparent the more you play, it’s essentially a suicide mission that needs to be carried out in a dark, twisted and almost completely abandoned environment.

There are some interesting details that unravel as you go on regarding how these two characters got involved in this and the interactions between them contain many subtle hints about their relationship and their personal thoughts.

Don't be afraid... Come to the darkside! We have cookies and milk! And a bunch of crazies who want to kill you.

And if you’re someone who’s interested in lore, you’ll be pleased to know that this gloomy setting does have quite a few pieces of (often) hidden lore for you to nibble on if you want to have more insight about the places you’ll be exploring.

The atmosphere of the game’s maps’ adds to the mystery and intrigue of the world and the original music that is used is also appropriate and complements the scenery you’ll be visiting throughout the demo.

There are hidden notes and journal pages scattered about... What, didn't you get the memo?

GAMEPLAY & PACING

The demo of Omnis has some pretty good pacing from the beginning until the very end and the variety of the scenery and the interactions with it will keep you immersed and busy. The battles themselves are not lacking either; the difficulty starts out rather smooth but the enemies become more varied in their abilities with some of them making you change your approach in battle in order to succeed and not waste resources.

This, added to the fact that supplies are limited, means that being careful will reward you with leftover items that will be useful later on in the demo when things get a bit more hairy.

Oh that's hairy alright... Wait, what do you mean it gets hairier!?

I won’t go into detail about how the plot advances as it is best experienced first-hand by the player, but it moves along at a pretty good rate. The game could definitely be spruced up in both gameplay and perhaps even in the graphics department but it’s already pretty damn solid so there’s no major flaws for me to point out. You may have some difficulty with one little puzzle midway through but if you’re paying attention to how it works it won’t trouble you much at all.

I’d definitely urge you to give this demo a try if you like RPG games and while you’re at it, give your thoughts or direct support to the developer making Omnis! Every little bit of support helps this game become a reality!

Thank you, an excellent and generous review!

I'd like to acknowledge the simplicity of the battle system and say that it's only a place holder - if OMNIS gets its funding then we've got a whole new battle system to implement - an enhancement and variation on the usual front row/back row system found in a lot of jRPGs that includes flanks as formation positions and the ability to switch characters between positions to make tactical use of the various strengths and weaknesses of each placing.

We're also going to be enhancing the individual battle mechanics of each character (and a currently secret roster of temporary party members).

'preciate you taking the time to write this review, it is, as always, fantastic to get positive feedback.
