Tonight no one can hear you scream!

Good ̶d̶a̶y̶ night!
Candice is a 30-35 minutes (even if it took me 45 minutes to see both endings) mystery/horror game created by Carvonica in 24 hours using RPGmaker VX Ace. It's a quite short game and unfortunately the only complete one we had from this developer, whose last version was released in 2015.

The game is about Candice, a little girl that has no memories of the previous night: exploring the house and finding hints and documents she has to solve a mystery about her family. Anyway, despite the dark/horror themes do not expect terryfing images and lots of gore, on the contrary the game is more unsettling than viaually horryfing.

That's cute, isn't it? And it's also useful to us, because acts as a save point!

Well, I wish I could tell you a lot more but since the game is pretty simple and short I'm not going to give out more details about the story. It's not really complex, but for a short, one-shot scenario is fine, and pretty much complete (even if technically this could also be a prologue for a longer and more complex story, due to some questions left unanswered).

Clearly there are no battles (Candice is just a little girl) or puzzles and the game is a mystery adventure about exploring, and interacting with the surrounding to search for clues (basically a little more complex that one of these "walking simulators": there are only two items to obtain, two books to read, and a third item to break, that's all but I warned you before, this is a short game!). The game is well done, and if you have any doubt about the story, the whole plot is summarized at the end of the game.

It's no surprise that the game is so short and simple (no battles, no puzzles) due to the really short time in which it was made, so we cannot really complain. The atmosphere is dark and unsettling, all is well made despite the use of the usual RTPs, except for a particular scene that I'm not going to spoil, and I guess is the only original/ripped asset of the game. Mapping is ok, even if there is not much to explore, of course.

A good question. Well, I have an answer but I do not want to spoil the game for the players!

Final Verdict
Candice is a short horror story that's pretty simple and easy to play, so do not expect a game you're going to replay or something that will keep you involved for hours, anyway it's solid and well done, even if it does not offer anything new, nor it presents a particularly original and interesting story. But it's still ok, considering the short time in which it was made, it's competently realized, the assets and the RMN Music Pack are used well. Anyway there are some questions left hanging, some details never explained, because even if in the end Candice will learn what happened the night before, it's still unclear WHY this happened and what happened before that moment.
But I guess we'll never know! In any case it's maybe too short a simple, but not a bad story at all!
