Intriguing beginning into the game. It wouldnt be so bad if you were able to hit ener and keep each correct ring and then go to the next. But if at any point right from the beginning you hit the wrong sequence it starts all over, again, it gets frustrating very quickly.
Perhaps either keep each correct ring or slow it down a pace. Or both.
I want to play the game not spend time with a puzzle right off the bat.
Dont get me wrong, its novel but too soon, too much.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I was already worried it might be too fast for some, so I will consider reducing the overall rotation speed a bit. Though, if you miss a ring, only the current "level" will restart, not the entire puzzle. With a bit of perseverance, it shouldn't take too long.

A tip: pay attention to the position of the wings. That makes it much easier to tell when it's the right moment to hit Enter.
Thanks...I will try again. It is me perhaps more than your game.

To add to this train-of-thought somewhat, my beef is that you have to do this puzzle at the beginning of the game, before players are given the opportunity to save mind you, three times in a row.

Well, okay, I don't know if it is three times. There could be additional iterations, since I essentially quit in frustration some time during the third iteration. If there are more iterations of this after the third one, that just screams craptastrophe to me.

*Edit:
Let me try to clarify a bit. I don't think the issue is that the puzzle is too early. I think that the issue is this increasing rotation speed (which translates to "difficulty" in this puzzle's case) added with the fact that players haven't actually done all that much in the game. I think if players only needed to do the puzzle once, and were able to keep going, I think the game would flow a lot better!

The first puzzle is really cool. But I don't see why it needs to be done three times with the same picture. It also may be a little too fast for the first puzzle in the game. You may want to ease players into the difficulty.

Thanks a lot for the feedback, you all. I see your points and will adjust the difficulty. Let me ask, which rings did/ do you struggle with especially? And do you think it would be better to just reduce the rotation speed, or increase the detection tolerance to accept a hit instead?

@Marrend:
Oh dear... You were so close. The third iteration actually is the last one. The funny thing is, originally there was only one "level, but I changed it to three because I felt the puzzle would be too short otherwise, especially since there's quite a lot of story coming right after it.

@unity:
Thanks! Well, one reason in addition to the above was that I simply didn't have another fitting picture at my disposal. But you're right, perhaps only having two instead of three "levels" would have sufficed.

The innermost ring was always the hardest for me.

I'd vote for just reducing the speed.

All right, I'm uploading an updated version this very moment. Both the first and another later puzzle are rebalanced. I'll edit this post as soon as it's ready.

The savefiles of those who did get past the first puzzle will of course be compatible.

EDIT:
And it's up! Sorry for the inconvenience.

It's not inconvenience NS, it's real world testing, and just look who you're got doing that for you. It says quite a bit.

Thing is I was about to come in and give a similar response about the number of iterations but now I won't have to, nice response time.

Thanks, nhubi! And you're right, I'm really happy to have gotten so much constructive criticism so quickly.
