This is a game with heavy procedural generation.
It uses a system similar to voxels to hold the data for each chunk. But tile size is larger than you would expect from a voxel game(aprox 5x2.5x5 meters)
The world is created at the beginning and each terrain takes certain details from this original map. Cities are placed around the world and roads are spread between them. The world size is also a random feature between worlds. The finished game will be heavy on Crafting, leveling, and exploring. Randomly generated quests will also be a big feature.

Long time

I haven't posted here for a long time, I have still been working on the grimoire though.
I now have a seamless world(or at least the illusion of one) swimming off the east side of the world will take you to the west side of the world and same with north, south(actually creating a torus shaped world but that's still quite retro so I'm ok with it :P ) I now have basic random quests working. but they need a lot more work yet.
I still have a lot of work before I release a public demo but that day is getting closer

Thanks :)
The graphical style will change a little I guess as I update models ect but just think of it as a slightly better version of what you see here.
I tried many different styles but the truth of the matter is Im not a 3D artist and it took to much effort to do the other styles and this was the style that took the least amount of effort for me(And when you have to populate an entire world with NPCs and characters then least is best)

But you are not alone I have had several people tell me they dislike the graphical style. Thanks for the input anyway. wether or not I act upon your comment it at least prepares me for the fact that I may take a dip in sales from it.

I love the art style.

Thanks pianotm :)
I get that on occasion as well. If it wasn't for comments like this I would seriously consider changing the art style(which would mean Hiring a 3D designer)

I like the art style as well. Just polish it up a bit and it will look so cool. I'll keep an eye in the game.
Those graphics are beautiful O: I think the trees would look nice colored in a simple cel-shade style like the characters. Fantastic looking though.
Looks awesome so far. Keep up the great work. I am very curious about the flexibility of the randomly generated quest system. You are getting this to work using the RPG maker game engine?
Wow I like the game art work to this is so Nintendo 64
This is wallpaper from Quest 64
Well I am trying to keep the game retro. So I'm glad it has the same feel as an N64 game to you.
I love everything about this game, can't wait to see it progress and evolve into an amazing project! Keep up the good work Grindalf!

Also, subbed.
I will certainly have to keep my eye on this one, it looks great!

This is probably the coolest looking fantasy style voxel game I've seen. Just curious, will there be xp/levels or is it more like zelda where you acquire items to power up?

I recommend you use whatever tool you know best. Random generation is difficult to set up so its best to be comfortable with what you are using.
As for blitz3d yes it is free and it is an easy language to use.
Unfortunately its quite old now and is directX dependant so its windows only
There is also BlitzMax which is also free and can export to mac, win and Linux but it has no native 3D engine(There is a 3d engine made by someone else)
anyway have a look for yourself
