The world of Morphos Metaphor is set in the city of Kirimori, where supernatural events challenge the peace of its residents. Locals stir the rumored sightings of ghosts and shadows at sunset, the police receive monthly reports of missing people, and comatose has become a prevalent case among the patients rushed in most of the city's hospitals.

You are a student in Kirimori City's prestigious institution, Higashimori High School. The school prides itself with its high quality of education, living up to the school's firm belief that the best education can be attained, but only to those who have the potential to succeed.

Kirimori is a place where mystery and illusions embraces the city at night, although, there are no secrets which forever remain hidden, for the Arcana is the means by which all is revealed.

- Morphos Metaphor Intro Statement

A short project created in a month for an RP group's story event. Morphos Metaphor is based off of Shin Megami Tensei, but establishes it's own setting and lore to set it apart.

In this entry, a lone high school student is spirited away to a dark realm where she must face her past memories once and for all.

Mechanics Stuff

Gameplay is mostly standard RPG fare. Walk through maps and progress through story events. Items can be looted throughout, so keep an eye out.

Battles are one on one affairs with the player and enemies trading attacks through multi-stage turns. Manage your resources while you combo enemies and try to find their weaknesses.

Tactics Points are gained throughout battle to cast helpful skills such as buffs, debuffs, regens, and the like. Make good use of them.

Other Stuff

- There is a hidden boss located somewhere in the game. Good luck.

- There is a problem with the skill menu, involving the selection scrolling down out of view, but it is largely inconsequential.

- There are no shops. Most items are found from looting the environment. It's a game of attrition for the most part.

Ok, thanks!
downloading now looked cool then im a fan of Shin Megami Tensei soim looking forward 2 this
So some crits:

- Unskippable/unfastforwardable intro = Me walking off to do something else till it's done and I get control.
- I get the feeling you're making the maps really dark to 'hide' the enemy encounters + promote atmosphere. Counter-arguments: I've learned that it's better to 'let' the player decide if they want to fight encounters or not, so better not to hide them. Having things so dark also makes it tough to see where it's possible to walk.
- Battles are nice and flashy, as expected of a Skie. I like the design of the hud, but think you threw too many options at the player all at once (noticed this problem too with your previous MM game too). Better to start off with only a few abilities, and explain what's going on with combo system, what's the difference of going with one attack vs another.
- I died in an encounter with... I think it was a gray woman centaur thing? It was the second battle I did, and I did buff def/debuffed her atk. Probably not a good idea to have something that nasty so early on.

I don't think this one can be helped. We had to set up the narrative somehow. Though I guess I could have made the last line shorter in duration, in retrospect, hehe.

Not so much to hide the encounters as to just promote atmosphere. I tried to placed lights down in a fashion that lit the way for the player to go at least most of the way. The shadows being hard to see was a side effect of the atmosphere, as well as them being...well, black!

I didn't think too much about it when I was making it, but now I do realize that was a bit of a bad oversight.

Ah, yes. This seems to be an ongoing problem of mine. It seems to happen subconsciously at this point. Though, this was made in a month and the total playtime is rather paltry, so splitting things up probably wouldn't have worked that well. At least for chain attacks. Enemies don't progress enough(Or at all) to justify unlocking higher tiers of attacks like a typical RPG in any case.

Though, I do agree in retrospect that perhaps bordering off some of those tactical skills by level would have been helpful to easing their introduction in.

That was Tiamat I believe. She's the worst of the enemy spread. Perhaps I should I have confined encountering her to the building. Hrm.

The only reason I haven't given this a try is that I've seen Morphos Metaphor Chapter 9 and 10 on this site, but not chapter one. Are the earlier chapters available elsewhere, or is it a self-contained story?

Thanks! :D

That's because chapter 1-8 don't exist as games. But the stories are self contained anyhow, so it's not a big deal.

Actually, I guess this is a rather unfair criticism for me to make, so let me clarify: The biggest problem I have with a lot of games that has you sitting through an intro before any gameplay starts is that, I have no reason to 'care' yet about the characters or setting. Of course, this isn't always the case (say the intro starts out with a bang or a really interesting development, that's a good way to catch my focus). But frequently I'm finding I just want to get going with the game, and only after I've gotten a feel for how it plays/ how the characters respond/ developed an attachment to them, do I maybe want to hear about their situation.

Admittedly, probably only I'm really this impatient.

random thoughts
pretty title screen

the skill Shin Zangetsu has no description

in the skill menu there are skills below primal force and Agneystra but when you scroll down the screen does not follow

there are way too many skills

i wish there were not battles...

this...is really boring...

General 1H+
This...was a really REALLY boring experience.
to sum it up...your in some dark place with monsters/demons for reasons you don't know (and as far as i understand don't find out)
you fight them, you fight some more during all this you look for 8 pieces of poem
you have a annoying discussion with someone and your done.

Overall
i would not recommend this.
will you ever bring the download link back up? i was curious to try this game but the link is dead :(
