Story
A bizarre epidemic is sweeping through the city of Melloton and nearby cities. People are falling into comatose state for no apparent reason. And you have become it’s latest victim. When you woke up, you find yourself in a fantasy world without knowledge of how you got there or even who you are. You must traverse through the lands in hopes of finding a way back.

Gameplay
Dream Drift is a classic RPG with features similar to Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI, and other great RPGs of that era. I wanted to keep the combat simple, but with enough features for the hardcore players to find ways to exploit the mechanics. I want to avoid needless grinding, but at the same time, I want the game to be rewarding for those who decides to fight every chance they get. I also want to avoid telling the story through narrative. I believe the point of a game is to discover the story by playing, not by reading. I also want my characters to have some depth, but at the same time, I want to keep them somewhat of a mystery so players can try to fill in the blanks.

Notable Features:
  • 8-way movement
  • On-map enemy encounters
  • Side-view, ATB combat
  • Magic learned through spell books
  • Traits System, allowing some control over character development
  • Plenty of interactive objects
  • Cooking (food crafting). Not necessary but can be helpful if the game proves to be too challenging
  • 3 slightly different endings
  • 10 playable characters, but not all are recruitable in one playthrough
  • A handful of side quests to keep the end game interesting
  • 10-15 hours of gameplay

Background
This is my first serious attempt at making an RPG. I’m a programmer by trade, so that's my strong point. Graphics, sound, and cinematics are subpar, but I tried my best to make up for that with good gameplay and story. I’ve played through this game 4 times so far, and I should have fixed all major, game-breaking bugs. Please let me know in the comments or by email if there are any bugs that you would like me to address.

Is there a walkthrough or game ending guide for this game? I got the ok ending.
This game can be completed from beginning to end, so I wouldnt call this a demo at all. It's an epic length RTP RPG and not a bad one to boot. However, it's better to say this game is in beta, since there are glitches and bugs littered throughout the game. Story is a pretty standard isekai anime, you go to some fantasy world and follow a typical RPG plot to destroy some big bad at the other end of the continent. Also, as I found out upon completing the game, there are multiple endings. I'm guessing missing the master key of unlocking might be the reason i didnt get a better ending.

The game took me 24 hours to finish. Most likely because I ended up relying too much on the healing fragment for pretty much the entire game. The game difficulty isnt that high, but enemies do hit hard so I was healing all the time. I also didnt spend very much skill points because I had to save them in case I need to spec an anti-boss strategy at some point in the game. Thankfully the game never got so hard that I needed to do that. Also you want to steer clear of the escape command, not only does it have a very low success rate, your party will keep trying to escape and get beat down to death.

There is alot of backtracking in this game, be warned. Not only that, most areas in the game are very cramped making it hard to dodge the regular enemies who are usually placed at chokepoints. It is better than random encounters in a way because with luck and patience you could squeeze past the enemies.

One of the biggest glitches in the game is its own confusion about whether the indian guy or the nature girl is the one who disappears after saving the elf forest. (Another warning, party members who disappear will take away their equipment with them.) Immediately after elf forest, there is a flashback of the indian guy but the nature girl disappears in a cutscene. Then the indian guy was removed from your party. It was quite confusing. Then later one, sometimes I get the nature girl, but other times I get the indian guy. Notably, I got the indian guy in the final arc of the game who ended up being 20 levels down since he was gone for most of the game. Then in the final dungeon I got the nature girl instead. Very confusing.

My strats
Because I didnt spend much skill points, my main party was the first 3 I got, ralph, the adventurer and the blonde girl. In most battles I just turtled massively, using healing fragment and barrier and minimizing MP use, since ethers in this game are prohibitively expensive. The only major boss I had trouble with, using this strategy, was the phoenix who had a 250HP regen every turn. In that case I switched in ulrika and double spammed water on it every turn which was enough to kill it. Though when I lost barrier girl in the final arc I had to readjust my strategy a bit, but healing fragment was still decent at this point. Since this is ATB combat, agility ended up OP as usual, and the dev apparently knew this. Haste was also extremely OP.

The game is too long for me to replay it for the good ending, but I highly recommend getting all those glitches fixed. Until then though, players will want to save as often as possible at save points.
This looks good, but is it still being continued/developed? Last progress report was 2015, so I'm kinda skeptic.
good game. i just finished it.
anyway there are some graphics bugs in game, but is playable.
game is awesome, am on the edge of finishing it. Can anyone pls help with (play notes sequence on piano for Fintan Manor in Asiel.
Hello City Shrimp,
You achieved an excellent game in spite of some imperfections easily forgivable for the first attempt of a new dev (no offense meant). I'd like simply point out a glitch occuring when the save station is localized in a room: loading twice consecutively the same save (for instance before buying a new gear or triggering a key event) make it impossible the second time to leave the room: the exit is blocked . Fortunately, closing and re-opening the game solves the problem.
Congrats again,

Wanted to ask, but is there a bug or anything with the game? I start a new game but I end up in a hospital and nothing seems to happen at all. I can hear my own footsteps, and sometimes I manage to talk to Chiho (who I'm assuming is in the bed) but I can't even play the game.. any help would be greatly appreciated.

look nice but I can't play as it seems to not work. when in the hospital room I press keys but nothing seems to happen although i can hear sound is this a bug? or something else, any ideas?
You need to change the location of the character and make him start at his room. That seems to fix it.
i'm sorry harbinger, but i really don't understand what you mean by changing the location of the character. how would i essentially do that? the game just opens, i choose "new game" and it goes straight to the hospital room and i cannot move anywhere.

i would appreciate a response, at least from someone :D because the game does very much look like a great game to play!

thank you!

I am guessing from a programmer's point of view that should be quite easy to fix :P
I am not a programmer and neither is Aislar i imagine, so maybe someone who has fixed that already can send us a save file after the intro?

This seemed like a nice game but i have the same problem...I am invisible and i can't play it! :(
Since the last comments was so long ago i am guessing this is not going to be fixed...I will subscribe anyway :) Please fix it!
You may want to check your Autorun opening. I'm starting out transparent.
I got the bad ending and tried to get other two but I couldn't.
Anyone know how ?

Bug report:
1. There's a start up problem. I bypassed it by selecting start up characters and reset start up position to
his room. But it has to be fixed.
2. In the seaside village, after talking to the bar tender, event 27 did not get turn on for some reason, I couldn't find the switch on the wall in the cave. There is no switch icon on the wall.
3. Elven forest: the red door that leads to a small area with a blue switch to the right and purple to the left should be a YELLOW door. Not red.
4. Before heading toward the outpost, the thief character is in both the flower girl's house and the inn. They walk funny.
5. The forest loving girl and the animal loving guy both regained their memories. Why didn't they get sent back? Disappearing has been involuntary up to this point. This is inconsistent.
6. The animal loving guy disappeared upon leaving for the outpost. Could be that I missed an event. It's just odd that he never came back on the team without saying a word.

Only half way through the game. Needs some tweaking. Otherwise, it's fun. Good job!
It looks like the main character is not set in the initial party. And im sure you are not supposed to start at the hospital either.

Oh, I thought only I had this strange problem. I do hope it'll be fixed soon since it looks like a fun game.

Same here. I start in the Hospital as an invisible boy. or girl. I have no clue ;)

And I tried to figure out if there was something making him invisible in the game project, trying to restrict myself to that single room, but I couldn't find anything that would turn him invisible. So, I have no clue.

^Same problem, the character started invisible for some reason and can't seem to progress.
Uh, am I doing something wrong? When I start a New Game, there is no intro cutscene. Instead, I have an invisible character that can wander around this hospital and interact with NPCs. I explored the city a bit too, but it seemed like there was nothing to really do... and it was annoying since my character had no sprite. I'm going to assume you put the starting location at a weird point for testing and forgot to reset it, or else disabled the intro cutscene by accident. This is playing the updated version. The only other actions I can take is X to open the menu, although everything except "Load Game" is disabled. Halp!
