December 27th. Two days after Christmas Day. The holiday cheer has passed, the presents have been unwrapped, and everyone is ready to move on with their lives. For 28 year old Rachel Heine, this is just another mark in her calender.

Down on her luck, Rachel has been surviving paycheck to paycheck. On the night of the 27th, she realizes that she needs to return an overdue video to the store. In order to keep the overdue fee from climbing any higher, Rachel decides to head to the store that night to return the video.

The Gift is a short form adventure that focuses entirely on the story. There are no battle, no menus, and only minimal amount of gameplay. This game isn't about Christmas specifically as it is about the holiday spirit in general. Completion time is aimed to be under 10 minutes with two endings.

The Gift is here!

Here's a gift from me to you. I hope it was worth the delay!

This game should take no more than 10 minutes to play through, 15 if you want to get both endings. This is the fastest I've ever brought a game from a concept to a working product, and I'm pretty happy with it and hope you will be too. It's also RTP independent, so EVERYONE can play it!

Huge thanks to unity and NeverSilent who have been wonderful testers!

I hope it puts a smile on your face and maybe even provokes some thought! Keep being awesome, RMN!

This game is short, but has a quite strong message. I recommend.

ME TOO, ME TOO :) I also liked it :)

There are a few heartwarming things that happen in this cold world and it's nice
to see a game can also be heartwarming.

I watched a video where cops stopped drivers under false pretenses just to find out something they wanted or needed for Xmas and other people were in a store listening to what was said, they grabbed the items and wrapped them real quick so they could be given to the officer to give to the drivers.
That was also a very heartwarming thing to see....just like this game :)

Thanks for the comment! Yeah, I can definitely understand the skepticism of generic holiday games. That's why I tried to do something different. I'm really glad you liked it!
I have to say, I'm not really into the cliché holiday stuff because it just doesn't seem realistic to me. I'm a little embarrassed to admit that that's kind of what I assumed this would be but I decided to give it a try anyway. This very short game managed to convey an incredibly heartwarming story that was really relatable to me. Everything about this game had an impact on me from the art (the facial expressions on the main character came across as so tired but kind, it was really sweet) to the dream-like music.

I also really loved all of the phrases that kept appearing throughout, keeping it real about the concept of giving and why people (don't) do it sometimes. I was actually getting a little inspired when she kept running into callous people but still giving anyway, especially since I kind of used to be the same way but have gotten pretty tired over the years.

Spoiler ahead:
It's funny because I actually found myself worried about the character towards the end, right before the little boy found her, when I let out a sigh of relief. I've played 20+ hour games before where I've had less attachment to the characters, so really great job on this.

People are kind to people, religious affiliation notwithstanding, people are unkind to people, religious affiliation notwithstanding and people are indifferent to people, religious affiliation notwithstanding.

People are people, some are kind, some are callous and some don't care and most are all of these at different times. Whether they are monotheists/pantheists/atheists/agnostic or any and all flavours in-between. However I actually find the statement 'but the average person on the other hand only cares about themselves and there family' to be the most depressing comment in that post, incorrect homophone notwithstanding.

so to see a person help a stranger just because they feel its the right thing to do just amazes me
because it rarely happens (religious people don't count they do so out of fear)

I think that's a huge blanketing statement to say "all religious people are only kind to other people because they are afraid"... I'm religious but I will help others because I love them and I do not want to see them suffer. I want to see all men satisfied and successful. I think it is slightly ignorant to say people don't care about other people because some people really do... you can say that *most* religious people don't count, and that would be an opinion, but I do know a very great many religious people who feed people and love people just because they are great people.

just finished, gotta say making me feel emotion from a 10 minute game is pretty dam hard.
w/o having anytime to build a good plot or characters i care about its quite unlikely.
but the good ending did manage to make me shed a few tears thinking about how rare something like that is in reality.
i certainly help who i can. but am not in a great financial situation to do so.

but the average person on the other hand only cares about themselves and there family(which is just as bad)
so to see a person help a stranger just because they feel its the right thing to do just amazes me
because it rarely happens
anyway to not tell ma life story here i enjoyed it and recommend it to most people!
10 minutes you cant go wrong!

the bad in the game i forgot to mention

She said she didn't think the motive had been that long but it wasen't her 1st time watching it. it was her 10th time

also she had until tomorrow to pay so why did they remove her stuff at around 8:30 pm!?
Well I am a cynical old fart and this still made me misty. Nice job. Great use of music, too.

Man, this game seriously brought me to tears. I probably got the best ending too. I... can't bring myself to see the other ending. At least, not now.

That was a beautiful comment to wake up to, Farah. Thanks!

And Linkis, I hope you like it!
....this.

How should i describe this ?

This game is so beautiful, the back ground musics suits the game perfectly, and also...

The feels! The morale.

And the narrative texts are great, they're awesome.

I've found both of the endings, the good one and the bad one.

So, to cut this short, i'm just going to say that...

This game is a worth-to-play.

Totally recommended.
