"Save us, Joba Kwon Kentona. You're our only hope."


This cryptic inscription was found scrawled on the back of an old tome deep within the musty confines of what must have been a study in the ancient Maji temple. Centuries of dust and cobwebs cover the desk and furniture and other worthless knickknacks and bric-a-brac in the small room.

Suddenly, faint heavy footfalls could be heard from the hallway outside the study, a vague metallic clang echoing through the empty tomb... Could the temple's robotic sentries still patrol after all this time? Quickly, our hero closes his satchel, grabs his torchlamp and dashes from the room into the darkness...



Explore Because Stuff! is a traditional RPG set in a forgotten era where the once mighty Council of Maji is now no more than a legend. Ancient temples, tombs, and empty cities dot the desolate landscape, and the toxic Blight of the Blasted Lands creeps ever outward. Our hero is a fearless treasure hunter extraordinaire who hunts for lost valuables in these dangerous Maji temple ruins. But he may yet uncover the secret to curing the realm...

The next Hero's Realm killer

This game has been a nebulous collection of gameplay ideas floating around in my head, so I finally took the time recently to coalesce some of them in to a more concrete design.

The gist of it is that there will be a special hero class (Tomb Raider, Treasure Hunter, or Arcane Chronicler), lots of classes for your hirelings, plenty of class switching, and loads of skill and weapon proficiency to develop.

Taking a cue from both FF6 and DQIX, I will have your teammates assume a class, with each class having a unique primary skill path, and two secondary non-unique skill paths, proficiency in up to four weapon categories, and an alternate skill (shields or unarmed abilities).

For each class's skill path, they will learn and master them at different rates (much like how Espers in FF6 had differing rates of learning for the same spells). The skill paths and weapon proficiencies themselves are inspired by the DQIX class framework. However, unlike DQIX where spells were unique and non-transferable, in this game ALL spells and abilities are learned along the skill paths. However! There is a difference between learning a skill and mastering a skill. So while, say, a Healer will learn Cure at level 1 proficiency, he would master it at a later level, and it is after he masters it that it becomes transferable.

Neat, right?

Well at least you’re still going to help out with any of those whenever you can, so that’s good.

I’m still anticipating the day whenever I get my hands on the next SMBX community game, whether it be The Last King Of Hyrule, Super RMN World 2 or Castles – Masterpiece Set 2. (Ahhh…btw, is that still a thing? I haven’t heard any news about that in months. It’s not dead, is it?)

Even though that you’ve put this on hiatus along with all your other independent projects (and, btw, I totally understand about it, coming from your situation and all), but you’re still gonna work on all your other collaborated projects like The Last King Of Hyrule and Super RMN World 2 whenever you get a chance, right...? Hopefully you don’t give up working on those, as I would love to see both of those games get completed someday.

Well, at least you didn’t officially flat-out cancel these games straight upright and just put them all on hiatus for now. At least that gives some minor hope that these games might get picked up again and finished off someday. And if Luchino with Enelysion has taught me anything is that miracles can happen with seemingly anybody using the right amount of persuasion and constant bickering. :)

I never was really in charge or Super RMN Bros - I've only ever been a participant. Everyone seems to think I run them, though. :/ But yes, I will still be working on them in whatever capacity is still required of me. BQ7, too.

But it was my "minor hope" that strung all my followers along for these 4 games that I hiatused. That wasn't fair of me.

You could always team up with someone/s and do the story/idea part of the gammak, help out with some of the eventing and let them do the main haul of the work. That could work out well. You'd still get MS, still have your name to games but you'd be removed from the whole 'getting stuck on the completion aspects' thing.

Yeah, I have to echo this. The "ideas guy" is reviled only if he A) doesn't have the skills to back it up (which clearly isn't the case with kentona) and B) is doing the whole thing as a ploy to make others do the hard work (which you wouldn't be if you're merely offering ideas as suggestions).
