Sacred Reviews: Suteki (Tech Demo)

Intro

"Suteki" was a game being developed by KAD that's going to be a pain in the butt to review since there really isn't that much content to be discussed. In fact the tech demo starts off by mentioning that it only exists to show off the game's custom graphical assets.

As such I'm really limited on what I can say about this game. I suppose I'll try to squeeze out 300 words, but it's going to be like squeezing water out of a stone.

Story

While the tech demo is utterly devoid of story content. The game's summary page tells us that were going to be playing a serial killer that runs around targeting women from the Final Fantasy franchise. Anything after that is a mystery.

Gameplay

The tech demo is pretty devoid of this as well with the player only being able to run around and look at the game's various custom NPCs and environments for the most part. And that final piece isn't that big of a deal since the tech demo also lets you open up a couple of gates as well. And while I realize this is a tech demo. It does seem like it would have been a good idea to include a few gameplay sections or a demonstration of how the game is meant to function when it comes to killing your targets.

Graphics

Graphically the game is a mixed bag in my opinion with some of the more minor assets being rather drab and underwhelming while others make me wonder if this was going to contain content that is not safe for work.

Jeez, they even included a sexy pinup poster at the entrance to the school

Though, I'll admit the girl with pink hair chewing pink bubblegum is a nice touch.

Sound

The tech demo is very quiet with the only sounds being a RTP song that plays on the title screen and a cat's meow. A cat's meow that will grate on your nerves in a hurry since it feels overpowering in a game devoid of background music.

Conclusion

There really wasn't much reason to check out "Suteki" when the demo dropped. And there is even less reason now considering this project has been abandoned for over a decade. And the thing you'll remember most about this demo can be easily trumped by dozens of freely available images you can find with the aid of a simple google search.
