Good ideas drowned in a messy execution

I've played through Goodbye Rebecca and after letting my thoughts simmer for a while I thought I would give my two cents about this.

Biting into the story first, it is confusing. There feels like there is a bigger picture here but the execution is really sloppy in many places and sometimes there are "clues" that does not really feel like clues at all but rather just gibberish. Though I can see a lot of work went into it, it was simply impossible for me to get invested in a story that seemed to come and go as it pleased.

Also, and this needs addressing, the spelling. I have come to understand that English is not the native tongue of the creator and that is fine. But the entire game is so littered with so many spelling errors that some sentences are not even complete or make little to no sense. My tip is, next time/game get a person to proofread everything in your game, preferably someone that speaks and reads English very well. I'm certain that someone on the forums would be happy to help out. It is a tedious task to go back and change all dialogue that is wrong (believe me I have a fair share of that myself) but it is worth it in the end to have a good final product.

Now onto the characters. I'm sorry to say that the main character we are stuck with, Rebecca, is very bland. She floats form scene to scene with little to no impact and even though there certainly are story reasons for some of her actions I have to say that I never felt through the story that she was "heartbroken" or anything of that kind. Even though the dialogue told me she was it was never really delved upon for any longer period of time, making it feel more like "she's feeling this! now let's move on!".

The maps are over all rather nice I would say. They work neatly and I haven't run into any bugs (except for the side running that made me the amazing "running on trees woman!" for a short while). But other than that I have to give credit where credit is due, the maps are real good.

There are not much music to speak of in the game and I can see why they went for the more silent and ambiguous horror theme. A music theme here and there could have spiced things up but seriously, it works as it is on the sound level.

Over all, Goodbye Rebecca is not a bad game but it certainly could have used some extra polishing before being released. I can't recommend it to be played but I will neither tell people to stay away from it.

Seeing as the developers are working on a new game, I hope they take these criticism to heart and work it into their new product and I'm certain they'll have a great game!

thanks for your review.

I know there are many things to improve for Goodbye Rebeca and without a doubt I'm doing it to my new game Black Winter.

In fact the person who translated Black Winter is a person who has very good level of English. Black Winter is a more ambitious game, with more detail and depth in the story than Goodbye Rebeca.
I'm happy to hear that you're going to give it your all for this new game.
We all learn from our experiences after all!

Best of luck with your new project!
