Gotta Kill ’Em All!

Hello and welcome to the review of:
POKEMON - the Evil Inside 2 (The Three Werepokemons), the second part of the duology with protagonist Colt, an action hero that is also the alter ego of the developer of this game... Colt!

Ok, you probably notice that number "2"... unfortunately the first chapter of this pokemon fanfiction adventure is not available here on Rmk.net, BUT you can still grab it from the official site HERE or from the archive HERE!
Anyway what has happened before is explained in the intro: Pokémon & humans lived in harmony until today, when they realized they are doing most of the work and they decided to rebel (yes, there aren't zombies like in Pokemon Dusk, Pokemon Dawn aor other games). Colt is a one man army that was sent to stop the rebellion, and he shot down a ton of pokemons, including their leader. But now, 48 hours later, the evil pokemon army is still a menace, and this time there will be also the three werepokemons!

Game is simple, aim and shoot every pokemon you find! And yes, sometimes Npcs will join Colt in his adventure!

We start the game with a gun and a good budget to buy more firearms, upgrades and rations (that are used to heal), luckily we don't have to worry about ammunition since Colt has an infinite supply of bullets (and time stops when he reloads, so this isn't an issue at all). Progressing the game will also let Colt earn more money, rescuing civilian and finding secrets is also rewarded by items and extra money, but the main mission is slways the same: kill pokemons!

The base game is simple: move around and shoot enemies before they reach you, open the menu to use consumable or to switch weapons if you need. And that's just the basics! The game in fact contains lots of minigames and side activities, like driving vehicles, using a snowboard, the "Crisis mode" where Colt has to exit from cover and shoot after aiming with a sight, or army battles. Some of these parts are good, others not so much (I did not like the army combat since it's more or less a rock-paper-scissor minigame) anyway they provide at least some variety. And there are also some boss fights of course!

The Crisis mode! Exit from cover and aim carefully, but don't let them hit you back!

Visually the game utilizes classic Rm2k3 graphics, lots of edits and clearly also sprites and chipsets taken from Pokemon games (I am not as expert, so I do not know from which games exactly). Expect blood and violence, dead humans a pokemons, in a blaze of pixelated violence, but hey, this is a war game! There are also many well made cutscenes (like the intro) that involves the various protagonists, despite the presence of many typos and some mish-mash due to the use of resources from various sources. Mapping is ok, nothing new or particularly original, but it's good and also maps may present some hidden areas an locations for extra loot. Music is also pretty good (ripped from various fps games, of course) and enforces the "epic action-movie" atmosphere, despite the fact that we're exterminating the pokemon population, but it's ok! It fits!

Overall this is a game that offers a lot of variety, it shows a lot of care and details in many parts, like the various custom menus and interface, and despite using an engine not made for real-time shooters, it still offers an entertaining experience despite some minor problems like typos and some minigames that aren't as good as the rest of the adventure. Nice try, anyway! The story is nothing special, but I like how Colt is the protagonist but he's not the only competent soldier here, and I also liked some particular twists that happened, nothing really special but still something that kept me interested until the end (there are ten zones to complete).

Oh, I didn't know this! Also finding this guy will also provide us a good quantity of cash!

Final Verdict
POKEMON - the Evil Inside 2 (The Three Werepokemons) is a ork of love, that despite being cheesy and imperfect, it offers a lot of mindless gun. It's probably very different from most of the complete Rm2k3 games available, and it's entertaining! It's an obvious parody that offers a complete storyline but there is not reason to play again after you completed the main story and unlocked everything, aside to get a better score. Well if you really want, of course.
In any case this was a good game at the time, in 2008, and it's pretty good also now, I think. 4/5 for me, and now, remember...

Sadly the official site is down now apparently and the archived version is missing files. It's missing everything from the .exe file for the launcher to the harmony.dll file to even some of the animation files which means the game can crash on you in the middle of playing it since that's how RPG Maker 2000 responds to missing file issues.

So while you can easily copy over the RPG_RT.ETE and harmony.dll files. The missing animation files are going to be an absolute headache to deal with since you won't even know your down a file here or there until the issue pops up. At least you can easily address that issue by simply copying a random file and giving it the right name, but it's annoying process to go through. Especially if you haven't saved in a while and you can't save during a mission from what I can tell. So you may need to play some missions multiple times to figure out the names of all of the missing files needed for that particular mission.

Ow that's sad! Luckily I still have my archived copy, and it worked without issues... I should upload it somewhere!
That would help since I gave up on the archived version after the game crashed during the game's first boss fight.

Have you tried installing rmk2000 RTPs? Fire1 is probably among these files.

https://www.rpgmakerweb.com/run-time-package

Dunno if there are more than one kind (rm2k3 has two sets) because I remember also downloading this pack, because I had them installed and also the game from the archive, but no problems with it, so I guess this was the issue.
Nah. I encountered the same problem. I figured I already had the RTP for RPG Maker 2000, but I'm pretty sure it's the official version which doesn't always work with games made with the illegal version. At least that's what I've heard.

And I just realized the RPG_RT.exe file was missing since my anti-virus software thought it was malware.
