Lunar Recon High Command
mission XC7 orders x/5

BACKGROUND:
The facility in question experienced an industrial accident several weeks ago. All facility systems remain operational, including a high-powered research device known locally as ‘the collider.’ It may be in a powered on or damaged state, causing harm to the facility. All other areas of the facility should be safe, spare minor maintenance needs.

OBJECTIVE:
The collider must be disabled. You may have heard rumors about memory loss, disorganization, confusion, or other irregularities at this facility. These are obviously false. You must stop the energy leak of the collider at all costs.

---

Divergence is an exploration game pitting you against an abandoned laboratory and whatever secrets it may contain. Discover the nature of a terrible experiment, witness the result, and ultimately uncover the fate of the research team. Game length ranges from half an hour to over an hour to find all the secrets the facility has to offer. Featuring top-notch visuals, a unique world-shifting mechanic, and a compelling story, Divergence is perfect for those looking for a short, quality exploration game.

Game developed for the McBacon Jam #1.

Version 1.2 released

Hey all,

We've put a new version up for download. Some features:

  • Improved chipsets and nicer maps
  • Crates can now be pulled as well as pushed. About time.
  • Some bugfixes related to BGM and crashes in a few savegame edgecases
  • Minor map edits to make some areas less/more difficult or tedious
  • More cut-in art and revisions to the existing screens

Hope you enjoy the update! For the foreseeable future, divergence is complete. We might come back to make a few more sectors one day, but right now none of us have much time to commit to the project and the game seems to be paced and structured nicely as is. Thanks for the support.

Was really good imo for the time you had and the fact it was made in with Java. Did have a glitch at first where I somehow walked through getting the radio warped into the wall next to it and infinity got fragged and had to end the program to even exit BUT other than that good job!

Having a signature is too mainstream. I'm not part of your system!

Map incoming soon for people that want to find all the notes

Considering I had to download a newer version of Java and a .jar file, yes.
I'm not sure what's up with the infinite fragging but I made a few tweaks in 1.01 to try to mitigate the problem. The lag is probably a result of super-rushed coding to get the special effects in. I'll look at making some performance improvements now that there's not as much deadline pressure.

Hey, this is a programming-language-judgment-free zone!
Played a little:
joystick support plz
pretty cool graphics guys.
Oh that is a bad ass scenery transition thing you guys have got going on there.
I got fragged. I get it now. damn that's hot.
It is a little hard to tell where the obstacles are in the blue ecozone parts.
Need a pull box button for that box you can push around. I keep getting it trapped against the corners.

What program did you use to make this? Looks really fancy for a mapping tool.

I made that with a program called Tiled which is what we used to make the maps for this project. I made it as a tileset.
Ah okay. Is the text tilesets too, or did you add that in later in another program?

Unless tiled actually has text editor functionality and I'm just too blind to see it.

No that was added in seperately
Nuts. Guess I'll have to keep looking.

Welp, played the game (only one ending). If nothing else, it was a very, VERY pretty game, so extreme kudos for that.
It was overall a simple and enjoyable (most of the time) experience for me. I enjoy exploration quite a lot, and if anything I felt there was not ENOUGH of that, tho I completely understand the deadline and new team setup influences that and it's not any real criticism.
I did however get frustrated with collision and passability issues during puzzles and chases, where I felt the game got a bit finicky, which I assume would be eventing/programming, but was still annoying at times.

The first time the distortions appear I squealed in glee quite loudly, so yeah, the game is pretty as all get out ;-; I did have some issues recognizing which spaces were impassable, especially for the alien flora parts sometimes, tho.
Also, I was SO SAD I could not pet the alien. I wanna make friends with the alien damnit! I'll feed it astronauts and we'll conquer galaxies together, and I'll ride it like a t-rex!
But it only wants to eat me. Unfair OTL
I missed 4 notes and got ending 4, I think. I was surprised and a bit put off by the fact the game took over at the decision at the very end rather than let me choose, but oh well. I suppose it depends on your ending.

Tl;dr I liked it. Some problems with frustrating puzzle issues at times, but overall good.

I submitted my stream/LP of the game and it should be approves soon, I hope, or you can see it here.
Hi!
Its awesome game (i think) and awesome choose of programming language (seriously, i love Java), but i have one big problem: on game start (game.jar or exe-file) after intro cinimatic ("moonbase"), game is shut down.
I currently update my Java to version 8.40, but problem still live.
Can you help me?
Anyway, thanks!

P.S:
i pick photos of my error.log and info.log files.
(Big photos)

Hi, thanks for the error log. There's a bit of OpenGL setup that needs to take place in order to render the world transition effects, and it looks like your machine doesn't support that exact format. I'll change it a more widely-supported format next release so hopefully you'll be able to play. Will update when it's out. Thanks!
Oh, this is Java? Neat! I should pick your brain on how you are doing the graphics one day.
