I'm sorry is Adeline asking her father why he's never killed himself, or is it something a little less dire?

I mean I know the theme was deprivation, but there's dark and then there is Dark.
It's more along the lines of "What's the point to this life we're living? Is there a point?"

It's meant to come off more philosophical than despaired. But yeah, I definitely agree that this line has the potential come off pretty dark. I should probably rephrase it at some point.
