Masud did a terrible thing.

Now he wears the Mask of Odion, a cursed relic that's forced his soul into the body of a mummy. Worse is Odion himself, the former owner of Masud's new body.

Keep walking, sweetheart, Odion says, his phantasmal jawbone clacking and clattering. Every minute we spend in this God-forsaken desert is another minute your body rots in my tomb.

An ocean of sand stretches in front of them. How many more miles until they reach the tomb? How many more days until they break Anuket's Tear and lift the curse?

Features:
- Traverse a winding pyramid and other beautifully designed but dangerous areas in exploration-based gameplay.
- 33 relics to collect that boost stats and grant powerful new skills add layers of depth to the turn-based combat.
- A story featuring four well-developed characters with a focus on mystery, duty, and living in an unconventional family.
- Solve puzzles and riddles, and use relics to unlock new areas, while listening to the game's original soundtrack. You can get it here.

Born Under the Rain's Soundtrack

For anyone interested, I finally got around to uploading the soundtrack. Everything should be free to download and you should be able to stream as much as you want:

You can get the soundtrack to Born Under the Rain here.

Also, if you like my music, I've uploaded the soundtrack to The Heart Pumps Clay as well. You can get it here.

Enjoy!

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

The game has been updated to version 1.2!

This should address most of the problems with battle length and repetitiveness. Enemy HP and damage numbers have been shifted around somewhat, and hard mode enemy HP is lower across the board. About 20% of the battles that were originally mandatory are now avoidable, one way or another. The behavior of several enemies has been changed to make the battles feel more different from each-other, and there are several new enemies with more unique behavior. Battles against these new enemies replace some of the old battles.

Normal mode is completely gone. Gone I say! It was an attempt at compromise, and, well, it didn't work. It had battles that took as long as hard mode but lacked most of the reasons for taking that long, creating a type of gameplay that appealed to almost no one. This was made worse by fact that it was called "normal mode," which made most players choose that setting, even though almost everyone would have enjoyed one of the other settings more. Your choices when playing the game are now EASY or HARD. Choose wisely.
@Housekeeping:

Sorry about it. I'm just new to this site, so I don't know how to talk to people without comments... if I would know how, I would obviously send you a private message ^^"

You're magical to me.

I'm finally giving this game a play-through (I would have earlier but things have been busy ^^;;) and I'm totally loving it! The graphics, the music, the gameplay, it's all fantastic! :DDDD

You can click Housekeeping's name above his picture, and then choose "send user a message" from the drop-down menu that appears. He would be the person to talk to about the story.
@Zelifano: It's okay--no big deal! Welcome to the site, by the way!
I'm trying to download the game... but the Media Fire isn't working well (it's very slow...)
I just read about the 1.2 update, and now I'm really tempted to replay the game! Born Under the Rain was fun the first time I played it, but the combat often felt grindy and repetitive after a fight or two. Now I can spend more time focusing on the cool exploration elements and dialogue. Odion was a great evil wizard, I almost lost it when you got dropped into the... maybe it was a snake pit and he started dissing the engineers for not going with arachnids? Really funny, even if I seem to have forgotten the specifics.

I assure you I'm no where NEAR as STUPID as one might think.

LockeZ, you all should plan to make that game longer or something, eventually. Like that part of the gameplay eventually being just the introduction. That game was one of the most fun games I've played in a long time and it sucks it had to be so short.

Also it was scorpions, glacier.
Hey, so I saw this a while back and have been too busy/stupid to post it, but we got a favorable review on Jayisgames:

Positively surprised with this game! Gives me good vibes on all fronts. D: Good job everyone involved!
How do you solve the sphinx's final riddle? Does it work automatically when you input the right combination, or do you have to do something else? Do you only get one chance?

I chose blood, sun, moon, teeth -- if that's wrong I don't know what else it could possibly be!

If you're not sure whether you're doing it right, I guarantee you have the wrong answer to the riddle.
Aha! I see it now.

The game was quite nice, overall. I'm finding that I really like Craze-style progression systems, with the emphasis on equipment. I particularly love how they give both a stat boost and a skill, since that creates multiple strategic layers and possible tradeoffs. Treasure hunting in the dungeons was really fun, and I love Metroidvanias, so I appreciated the different exploration skills too. People say that the combat was tedious, but I didn't think it was too bad. But I did play on easy mode, so maybe that had something to do with it. :p I thought the skills were inventive and fun, and there was great synergy between the characters. I found boss fights to be far harder than regular fights, which were usually trivial -- mainly because of the limited duration and uses of skills, which only becomes an issue in longer fights. (I also didn't find myself using very many items -- I only used 2 revival droughts, I think -- but again, easy mode.)

Puzzles were also fun, though a bit on the easy side, I thought. The riddles, in particular, were very easy to solve (even though I got one wrong initially, haha), especially since it's easy to brute-force. Funnily enough, the spinx's riddle on the second day completely stumped me, and I was a little worried I would have to solve it! It's cool to see protagonists take the straightforward option for once, but it might have been nice if solving it led to a bonus prize or something.

The story was short and simplistic, but it worked well for what it was. It was nice to see something other than generic medieval Europe for once. I saw the ending coming a mile off, though it was actually a lot happier than I expected!

I expected Masud to die after using the tear, but if he actually gets eternal life as a mummy, that's not really a worse fate than the other pharohs get! Although, wouldn't his body have died by that point anyway? The game takes place over five days, and humans can usually only survive three days without water...
Glad you enjoyed it, argh! If you're talking about the sphinx's initial riddle, let me ease your mind (or maybe piss you off):

There's no solution! I was using a little trick where I was trying to convey the frustration of not being able to solve a riddle so that players empathize with the characters in that moment. If I would have made it solvable, then I wouldn't have guaranteed that frustration. Please don't kill me!
Haha! That is clever. Isn't that against the rules for spinxes, though? Or is there some story where they can do that?
Haha, yeah, it's probably against the rules, but I don't mind bending them here and there. I mean, hell, if we didn't bend the rules with vampires, we'd never have Twilight.

...Hmm.
This is such an excellent game. I'm only halfway through but I really marvel at the job everyone did. Balanced challenge, fun exploration, tasty items, story that's charming but also suspenseful.

May I be so bold as to ask the Developers whether you submitted (or why didn't you) this game to Steam? It's really a cut above. Love it.

Thank you for making my weekend!
Glad you're enjoying it!

The RPG Maker community on Steam was pretty new when we made this, so, honestly, I don't think it crossed our minds at all. I actually don't even have Steam, but I'll need to look into it when I'm closer to finishing the game I'm currently working on, but don't you need to pay a fee and go through the Greenlight process to get on there?
I believe that's correct, that if you don't have an established publisher it needs to go through Greenlight. You could try selling it to a publisher like Aldorlea. I have no idea about how that goes. I just know it's a great RPG that deserves a wider audience and is significantly better than the other stuff I see on Steam, which appears there regularly. (I often wonder how...)
GOG is a an alternative, too. They will sell indie games, and are generally less draconian than Valve and Steam :)
