A random encounter appeared!

Intro

Arcarian Legend is an RPG game (though currently only a demo)

There's pretty much no introduction before you're thrown in (which I actually prefer, at least to the 15 minute intro movie). It begins with your character's town being destroyed by the evil ruler (somewhat cliche, but OK). Your character finds a woman in the town and attacks her, because hey, why not. After this you go exploring with your characters. There's more story later, but I won't spoil it as it's not obvious.

Presentation

First, the game is simply called "Project2" which made me unable to find it in my games folder... That should probably be changed.

Ingame, I did not like the appearance so much. The destroyed town seems very randomly created with no real logic to it (especially the tiles used here). I get that it's supposed to be a destroyed town, but even then the right tiles would be used in the town, there would be paths, etc... but also destruction over that.

The next area is where my main concern comes in: the forest area. It's huge and there are paths running all over it in all directions. However, only one of these paths leads you to the correct area, and it is not clear at all which one that is. My "strategy" was just wandering around until (finally) I found it, by which point I had gotten into around 108535 fights due to the high encounter rate.

The next area is a sandy area with water, and it's quite small, but it also suffers from the problem of not having a clear exit. I had to guess which route led me out (which admittedly wasn't a big problem, it was a small area), which was somewhat annoying.

The problem in both cases is a lack of a defined path. If there's only an entrance and an exit, the game should clearly lead you between those two points without having to wander and guess inbetween. Aimless wandering just feels pointless.

Gameplay

Well, there's a slight problem with the encounter rate...

But before I get to that, there were some bugs that need immediate fixing. Take a look at this image again. Namely, where the character is standing.

Pictured: the game being broken.

After a quick talk with the woman, the character should move to the left of the lower crack - but in my first "playthrough", he simply moved above the top one, permanently freezing it. Luckily restarting the game fixed this.

The other bug happens when you try to backtrack from the second area to the forest. Sadly, you get permanently trapped inbetween the edge of the map and your second character when you try to advance again.

Trapped!

Now, where was I? Ah, encounter rate. Maybe it's just because I wandered for so long in the forest, but I was pretty tired of encounter after encounter by the end. There wasn't even any danger (since one of the party members starts at level 65 and can kill enemies by giving them a stern glance), which in a way made it worse.

The battles are pretty generic and not balanced. As I said, one of the characters is level 65 and can easily one-shot anything (for a time, at least). The only danger here is getting poisoned (woe betide you if you run out of antidotes and get poisoned). Eventually there are battles you have to try in, but they're still pretty uninteresting, since you would only ever use one ability.

Speaking of abilities: apparently you can't heal, or I never found how to heal. I never learned any heal spell and got no potions.

Summary

I'm leaving this review without a numerical rating because it's a demo, so I don't feel it would be fair to rate it yet. Overall though, I didn't have a lot of fun here because of the problems with appearance, balance, and glitches. I would say currently that this game needs improvement.

Its an early demo and I'm still working out alot of bugs. I just wanted people to have something to try insted of noting but talk.
There is a healing spell in the game, but only the fox lady has it. Or at least I'm assuming she is part fox.
The guard option heals a certain fration of your max health. And Nyu is a Vuplin they are the fox people of the game. Also spiders sometimes drop potions, and wasps sometimes drop antidotes.
