Brown Sun

Dungeon full of slimes is nothing new for an experienced gamer, especially in sewer waters of Zelda clones ( or action RPGs as they are called nowadays). Interesting is use of IG Maker where IG presumably stands for Indie Game. It's interesting for sole reason. I've never seen any playable game made with that engine. It's useless piece of crap worth nothing. At least in comparison with better known 2d engines such as GameMaker, Construct, Multimedia Fusion or Enterbrain's own RPG Maker. Regardless of restrictions, Slime Dungeon is little enjoyable piece of game.

Story
There is none. Nothing to spoil. You are closed in nameless sewer with sword in your right hand and with left hand prepared to grab a key. You slice your path through oozes and You find the key eventually. With the key, You are free to exit the dungeon.
I read discussion in comments about possible background story and I have need to add, that it would be nice. It would make game's feel more truthful to retro gaming and age of The Brown Sun aka Nintendo Gameboy (I'm aware that it is green. It just gives me brown vibes).

Big slime is exactly what it claims to be. A Larger oozeball.

Gameplay
Basic movement and fighting mechanics work fine. My biggest problem was motivation. I wanted to play more, but there was no reason to continue. I could easily avoid majority of slimy population and sneak myself out of dungeon. Something like score counter would add so much to replayability.
Otherwise having only one enemy type without any significant boss fights and no puzzles at all, can work with game of this size, like XS. It would got boring with something bigger.

Graphic style has its charm.

Art
Graphics are cute and effective. I knew what was going on all the time. Original Gameboy's palette was chosen wisely as it seems that author is not as experienced with computer graphics as he could be. Game Over screen is ugly and made me unwilling to got killed by slimes ever again. Sprites aren't flawless and they require some cleaning. Environments on the other hand are nice. Animations are minimalistic. That means OK.
Background music is catchy with pleasant melody. Selection of sound is not as good and swirling sword kind of destroys the atmosphere.

Conclusion
Slime Dungeon is a tiny game, which proves once again, that even with terrible engine, good developer can produce an acceptable game. Good one, actually. The product of Orz Laboratory is prove of the concept and solid ground to build on. I wouldn't mind to see something larger built upon Slime Dungeon. Damn, Player only managed to leave some sewers.

Thanks for your review!

I know the game is pretty thin on content - this was actually on purpose as I was mainly trying some new things out.

But your criticisms are well-noted. I will try to address them in future games. :)
