Oh, hello. Was this important to you? Well, I was having a marvelous walk through the internet and couldn't help overhearing. You need to get with the times, friend. In fact, the Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass demo is already out. So, what are you even doing here? You should be playing it right now.

Umm, up to you? That's a lot of work and it's just the demo!

Hope everyone enjoys this; I'm flop sweating over here, Christ.

Yes! I've been waiting for this!
Gonna download now.
Looks and sounds great so far!

I found a nice set of bugs, too. If you press A or S while in the menu they still activate:

Wait... Did you have Testers?

EDIT: Didn't even see Merlandese's screenie before posting that...

Well, you're going Commercial. You need the advertising! Not doing it for that, though. I just want to ask and make one.

Using the Transform Ring while leaving an area leaves you stuck.

Gonna get screenie soon... Once it loads...

I played up through the beginning of The Wilted Lands, and I am enjoying this immensely. I plan to play through the rest of this tonight but I thought I'd drop off some feedback and my impressions so far:

What I Liked!

By a huge margin, this demo has some of the best production values I've ever seen in an RPG Maker game. The music, pixel art, and general upbeat aesthetic come together fluidly to create one of the best-looking RM games out there.

The game definitely has EarthBound inspirations and it's rather hard to not make that comparison, as if it were taking place entirely in Magicant. But unlike most other EarthBound-likes out there, Jimmy has enough uniqueness in its approach to make it stand on its own two feet as something original and unique. It never feels like a copy or a knock-off. Most importantly, the world of Jimmy has a very strong sense of place, and I felt like I was in the world itself.

The humor is a lot of fun, though sometimes relies on being wordy. What happened to Information Guy at the beginning of the game made me laugh hard enough to wake up my dog.

Honestly, the game just does things I could never even dream of doing with RM. Around every corner is something new and unique that makes me go "how the heck did he pull that off?!" This is definitely pushing VXA as far as it can go, and it's wonderful to see someone use the engine in such an ambitious way.

What Needs Improving

With the production values in this game as high as they are, I feel like the current UI is a missed opportunity. While everything else in this game is colorful and vibrant, the near-default menus are noticeably jarring. Maybe try playing around with Luna Engine?

There's also a lot going on in some of these dungeon maps. So much so that the FPS slows to a crawl, but I don't know if that's just me or not.

I also found myself escaping and dashing for healing sources more often than I'd like, since it never felt like I had enough MP to do the dungeons in one go, especially the first area.

Also a minor bug:

In this encounter, if you kill the fox before the cloud splits into two different monsters, the fox will respawn when the cloud splits.

Can't wait to play the rest!

OH SHIT WHAT IT'S OUT
WELL THE DEMO
BUT STILL
AHHHHHHHHHHH
Damn; I knew I should have sent it off to testers first, but I'm a victim of my own hubris--I just had one other person do a brief playthrough. Thanks for the bug reports and screenshots, guys; I thought I'd fixed the transformation ring issue upon leaving a dungeon, but that menu bug, Christ; can't believe I missed that one completely. I'll definitely get more people involved in the testing process for the full version.

@sgt_metool: I actually bought the luna engine and was running into script conflicts, so I decided to stick with the standard UI in order to maintain functionality. It sucks, but I wanted the UI to be pretty simplistic, anyway, so it's one of those compromises I felt like I had to eat it on.

I'm curious if other people have noticed fps drops; I didn't note any major ones in the testing.

I thought it looked sorta chalkboardy / slatey, to connect with the kid theme...
Funny you should mention that; there was a point that I was thinking about changing the menu cursor to a piece of chalk and the window skin to more of a chalkboard frame, so I'm actually kind of pleased that that's being conveyed. I was waffling between that and an old-school rpg vibe and ended up sitting somewhere in the middle, partially because of intent, partially because of the aforementioned Luna Engine issues, and partially from good old American apathy.

Edit: Menu bug was an easy solution at least! Onto the next...
Just beat it! I can already tell this game is going to be something most special. At first I didn't even realize the fountains were healing points and found myself falling in battle to heal up...(pretty embarrassing in retrospect). I really loved the goon hideout and pretty much all of the characters! Shaking all of the characters was fun too. The transition from locations to the world map is one of the best things ever.
Information Guy just can't catch a break can he? When I found his pipe exit I was laughing up a storm.
I curse you for ending it on that cliffhanger, I wanted more!

How many optional bosses are there in the demo? I found
Slither
(who is a tough SOB) and was wondering if you had a few more hidden away.

Also, I did run into a few visual glitches. Mainly just a few overhead tiles (the tree behind the grave in Smiles and at the goon hideout before jumping into the hole), but I also had the battle exclamation mark stay over my character for a little bit after a battle. I was spamming slime calls so that may have had something to do with it. I also had the same thing Sgt. Metool had with the fox enemy respawning when the cloud enemy splits up. Guessing that's not intentional.

All-in-all it was very impressive!

just a heads up about distribution. don't use .rar it has always been a commercial compression format and in 2016 really shouldn't still be used sites such as itch.io will not accept them for the reasons i stated. 7zip is fine as it has always been a freeware format and still features compression levels
So far I agree with everything SgtMettool said, like, I was about to type pretty much all of that up, lol.

So far it has the most incredible personality I could imagine. Magicant: The Game. Super fun and well designed as far as I played. Amazing graphics and music. I especially like the enemy graphics. So much personality.

My biggest issue so far is the lag. You might want to consider small maps. It annoys me to say it, because I personally like making big maps but I've been crushed by the forced lag of the newer RPG Makers.

I'm not far enough into the cloudlands to judge if the healing is a problem, but I did run out of healing items rather fast.

I'll give more feedback as I play.
