Meet the Mangrove Gang!

As COATS pass 1000 downloads, we decided to do a little celebration. Let's introduce you to a new set of characters - The Mangrove Gang!
In our upcoming title, Crackerjack, the Mangrove Gang are Celia's main allies in the quest to become the city's greatest weapons dealer. They are a small-time gang that suddenly gets thrust into the politics of the city, where they have been forced to pick sides along with Celia. They are a gang themed around the use of masks to hide their intentions, but showing their nature. So let's get to know them!

From left to right, let's make some introductions:

First up is Pike. The leader of the Mangrove Gang. A common street robber and lowlife, but loyaly to his friends. Laid back, witty and quick as a gunshot. He wears the pike to remind himself of better days, and as a symbol of his quick, unpredictable personality.

Then we have Poe. Poe gets into a lot of trouble, but is basically the computer guy. He likes to specialize in surveillance and... questionable targets. He wear's the black cat's mask as an homage to his favorite writer, and also, well, because he kind of likes cats. He's on the internet a lot.

Then there's Tiel. Tiel is still a bit nervous about this whole thing. She has an artist's soul, and she was never really meant to be in this business. Still, here she is, and with her understanding of the cultural, she is a great advisor when it comes to the PRB. She wears the cockatiel mask as a symbol of her gentle, social spirit.

There's also Boaris. His name is based on a stupid pun that only he finds funny. He's straightforward and simple, yet fiercely loyal. He wears the Boar's head as a symbol of his simple, yet violent nature.

Finally, there's Glenne. While lazy and seemingly unambitious, Glenne is constantly underestimated. She's a bit sluggish, but no less a threat than any other member of the gang. She wears the frog's mask to make people uncomfortable, as she likes to put people on edge.

700 Downloads!

Today COATS surpassed 700 downloads! 700! Isn't that amazing? That's about 200 more than 500!

So what can we say so far? Well, while we're very proud of COATS, we're looking to improve in our upcoming feature game, "Crackerjack". Many of the lessons learned from the production of COATS has been taken into account, and as a treat, we wanted to share some screenshots and introduce some of the major characters.

Tuva, the leader of the Heidrun Gang. One of the more laid-back and relaxed people, despite her position of power. However, she is not to be underestimated.

Raev, an old fox of the Heidrun. Second-in-command, not to be trifled with. Man of few words and many battles.

Marion, of the PRB. A sage old woman of sound advice. Caring, warm, and with a checkered past. What hides behind that well-meaning old smile?

Harley, second-in-command of the PRB. The source of many rumors and myths. Nobody really knows who Harley is. All they have is a first name, and a lot of assumptions.

Annabelle, the bell of the ball. Socialite of the Kirkos Crew, the circus princess. Cheerful and kind - but at what cost?

Crawdad. They say the young leader of the Kirkos Crew is crazy as a bag of hammers, and few would disagree. Still, he rules, and for good reason. Is there more to him than well-documented bouts of insanity?

There are many more characters to introduce, and many features to showcase, but we wanted to wet your appetite a bit.

Now, thank you everyone for our 700 downloads, and please, let us know what you think of COATS!

Have a great day, and don't get eaten!

So much content!

Wow, 600 downloads! That's great! I'm so looking forward to hearing from all our players out there. Tell me everything. I wanna hear what path you chose, which romance option you pursued, favorite characters - everything. I wanna hear it all.

There's been a lot going on! First off, we have two new reviews coming in, both placing COATS at a solid 4/5 stars (links below). We've also been following the adventures of Tanner Carter, as he finished his 30+ solid episodes of his Let's Play. We're sad to see him finish it, but boy, what a ride it has been. He finished off the series by giving us an overall review, and I gotta say, I like it.

So if you're still wondering whether or not to give COATS a shot, listen to some of those who've played it. Doesn't sound too bad, now does it?

Stay safe out there, and don't get eaten!

500 Downloads!

Today COATS surpassed 500 downloads! This is a big milestone for us, and we wanted to point it out to our loyal fans. As a thank you, we wanted to share a few easter eggs that might not have been discovered yet.

Next milestone is either 100 likes on our Facebook page, or 1000 downloads!

First (Phase Two):
Try inputting article "9191" in the library computer. The corresponding letters would be "IAIA", which some of you might get the reference to...

Second (Romance):
"Cassie" is actually a romantic option. You have to talk to her during Phase One, save her during Phase Two, and remain single throughout phase two - but she is an option.

Fancy stuff, huh? Good luck, everyone. Don't get eaten!

Let's Play and Review!

Hey everyone! Hope you're not getting eaten.
Right now we're revamping part of the Crackerjack storyline, and we're in the middle of making new lineart - as well as building the start of the game from the ground up. It's gonna take time, but we believe this is gonna be an epic game overall.

We also wanna give a shoutout to Tanner Carter, who's doing a playthrough of Coats, and is up to the first 10 episodes. If you're unsure about the game, take a look, or play for yourself (or do neither, I'm a blog post, not a cop).

We've also been featured in a fair review on JayIsGames - check it out for an outside opinion on what to expect;
http://jayisgames.com/review/coats.php

So that's all for this time. It is so great to see Coats get some recognition - we've spent way (WAY) too much time on this project to just let it slip into oblivion. So check it out - I think you'll be surprised.

Later, gator! Don't get eaten!

Progress Report

An introduction to Crackerjack

Hey, everyone!

While most of you are probably still playing COATS, I'd like to take a moment to show some of our efforts in an upcoming project. This project is still in the stage of an early alpha, but we thought it'd be fun to showcase a few of the base features.

Project "CRACKERJACK" has been on our agenda for a long time, and we've started with some of the basic building blocks and artwork. Most of the artwork and sprites are placeholders as we build the basic functionality - completely by scripting.

"Crackerjack" follows the story of Celia Jackson-Smythe, an ex-weapons designer who gets laid off as part of a ruthless merger. Celia, being a sheltered woman in her late 20's, is easy prey for the harsh big city environment. That is, until she decides to do what she does best - get back into the weapons business. As she starts developing and assembling weapons, for protection as well as living, she soon becomes an important player in the criminal underground. She adopts the nickname "Crackerjack" and starts her transformation from a timid engineer to a cutthroat arms dealer.

One of the greatest issues Celia has to deal with is the rival gangs. She can't just sell to all of them - instead she has to back a single gang, and try to stay on their good side. The three gangs (The Heidrun, The Kirkos Crew and the PBR) all have their own generals, lieutenants and unique characteristics - all whom affect the outcome of Celia's overall story. You got to choose whom to make friends with - and whom you think you could deal with, as enemies, as "your" gang claws it's way to city supremacy.

As an arms dealer, Celia has to be smart. Not only does she have to deal with the social politics of her employer, she also has to consider the cost of production. As her business expands, she needs to weigh import/export, manage attention from investigating officers, and sign unofficial deals with people you'd rather not disappoint.

This is just a short insight into what we're working on at the moment. Specifically, I'm working on an event system that generates characteristics and names of police officers who work on Celia's case, and making sure they are eventually replaced if something were to... happen.

What do you think?

Hey, everyone!

Hey everyone!

I thought an introduction was in order!
I'm Dennis, and I've been working with the very talented Butterlux (http://butterlux.deviantart.com/) on this project we've called "COATS". It probably started all the way back in 2012-2013, but we finished the game back in 2014.

It's been on ice for a long time, but we figured it was time we made it properly available to the public. COATS will be free of charge, despite it being an over 8 hour long game. It was originally made as an exercise in project organization and development, but turned into a full-fledged game. After many weeks of discussion and consideration, we decided to make COATS available for free. Frankly, we hope it'll give us some community goodwill in the future, and some recognition for our future projects.

The game is not without issue. We had a massive harddrive malfunction in December, causing most of the dev files to be destroyed. Luckily, we had an encrypted .exe file of the final project, bugtested and ready. There are still a few bugs around (mostly around the Tanya-path), but overall, it should be nothing game breaking. If there is, there is little we can do about it. Sadly, COATS gotta stand as-is.

We hope you enjoy the game and keep us in mind for future projects.
There's always something cooking.
Take care, and don't be afraid to say hi.
/Dennis
