“I want to return.”

Have you ever made a mistake you regretted so much that you wish it possible to turn back time? That memory will never release you from its agonizing grasp for the rest of your life. But even if the present gave you the privilege to relive the past, would you have the strength to confront it? Or would your sins damn you into oblivion?

In our remake of Castle Oblivion, we've done a complete overhaul: Story, Character Development, Maps, and Gameplay worthy of current RPG players. The Castle welcomes newcomers and old-timers alike. And if you played the original, you’ll definitely want to revisit the Castle again.

Story Synopsis:
Vincent and Azen, two knights stuck in the rain, discovered a strange Castle. Their host was gracious enough to offer permanent refuge by kidnapping Azen with an overwhelming power. Not wanting to be next, Vincent abandoned his friend. After drifting through decades of guilt and wanting to redeem himself, the Castle returned. Vincent will find new friends and foes as he traverses the Castle’s memory-made worlds to rescue Azen, but can everyone overcome the shameful past?

Features:
- A rewritten and more expanded take on the original plot. Filled with tons of BANG!
- Re-balanced battles, designed for an enjoyable challenge, rather than frustration.
- Remade, detailed maps filled with variety. Makes the Castle feel more deep and alive than ever before!
- Stronger development for the different characters in the game.
- Save anywhere!
- Interesting and creative puzzles to solve!
- Rescue other trapped souls from the Castle!
- Find Recovery Crystals, which you can either use to heal or break for stat-increasing items!
- Witness Vincent's hometown, Port Brinks, evolve as the story progress.
- Lots of secret rooms and treasure are rewarded for the dedicated explorer.
- Optional Bosses and Dungeons to test your might and uncover more information about the game's world and characters.

Castle Oblivion: Remake is now on Game Jolt!

Yo-yo-yo! I've finally decided to take my next step as a developer to join the somewhat huge indie website called Game Jolt! The first game I have posted is this one (mainly since it's the game I'm most proud of so far). You can check it out right here: Castle Oblivion: Remake - Game Jolt Edition.

I also want to let you guys know that I am indeed working on my 5th game ATM, which should be revealed pretty soon (it's a pretty short game, so it won't take too long for it to release either!). If you're a fan of Adventure games, then make sure to stay tuned!

Thanks for all of the support and kind comments so far! I really feel like I need to do something to celebrate for the amount of downloads the game have received. Keep it real, yo, and I'll see ya soon!

Welp, I used the links that you gave me.

Extract failed, guess it's just not for me.
Is there any possibility I can be given the location of both small keys? I've been stuck on the second small key door for a long time, so long in fact that I don't remember which small key I actually picked up :/

EDIT: I've been stuck for almost a year on this... Just to find out it was
in a chest I didn't notice behind a tree
. I hate myself.

I'm a sneaky boi.
I think I have spent an hour on the great sea and I STILL have no idea where Averste (the starting city of 2nd floor) is. The Great Sea Map is utterly useless because it doesn't even point where my characters are!

Please tell me where on the sea map my characters are from this photo.
You're at island no. 5. To reach Averste, simply head south from where you are.
Hey, I can't seem to make it past the flame wall on the stairs to floor 2. I've talked to everyone in town, I have the Library 1 key, and I've restocked/upgraded my equipment. How do I get past the flame wall?

EDIT: Found it.
I'm torn. On the one hand, I see the developer's effort and the game's potential. On the other hand, progressing is a really arduous task (I'm currently undertaking the first part of floor 2). Under most circumstances, any (!) mob monster encounter is able to annihilate even properly leveled and equipped parties (not only, but especially during surprise attacks). This means the player has to spam his/her best skills all the time, but then the party members' MP only last a few battles, while MP restoring items are sparse and expensive. And I'm talking about mob monsters that yield 40 to 100 EXP when the party members already need 2400 EXP to reach the next level. It doesn't help either that a few level-ups hardly make a difference in RPG Maker VX's standard battle system. This is coming from a player who isn't averse to grinding, by the way.

In order to counter this "fake difficulty", the player is induced to fight/grind only near healing crystals and/or to save after every battle, and to flee from every battle while (s)he scours the small maps for pocket change and useless items. I really hope it gets better when I've finally acquired the fourth party member.
If you were trying to recreate the way kelarly's RPGs play out, then congrats, you did it. This game is just as RNG dependent and annoying as most of his other RPG's. Regular enemies can easily destroy you at any time. If you got unlucky and get back attacked by random encounters, your dead. If all the enemies decide to use their strong skill/mass target heavy magic, your dead. If you randomly miss a finisher attack and an enemy survives, you're in danger of dying. There was this one random fight with 6 sahagins and if 3-6 of them decide to use Wave instead of their weaker moves, I die at the end of the first round of actions. I had to keep trying until fewer of them use that move. Not fun.

I dunno what you mean by rebalance, because this game is Harder than the original. In the original I got as far as the volcano and quit because the game kept freezing when some enemy used a confusion skill. But I wont be getting that far in this game. I got to the floor 2 boss and its basically the same battle as the one I quit in passage of the hollow moon. Theres a boss and two minions and the minions have bombs that can oneshot your party members. Then at some point the boss gets super saiyan and can basically oneshot anyone from that point. Sure I can drop his attack with fire but then he also suddenly throws out spells that hit for over 1000 which is above my max HP (because he spams magic def debuffs). I could just do the poison turtling strategy but I didn't feel like playing a game where I have to spam the Guard command, and I already had to do that for the last 2 bosses.
Help! There is a flame on my way to 2nd floor, did I miss something?
Looks pretty interesting. Estimated game length: 20+ hours; is this complete everything in game?
sorry but I didn't like it for two reasons:

1. The maps are too cluttered. I gave up on the beach area where you need to find small keys. There are just too many things there that it made a simple task such as
"go from point A to point B" frustrating and difficult.

2. Random encounters with no way to avoid them is very frustrating. I felt like I was getting constantly interrupted when trying to do anything. Also that escaping fails sometimes makes it even more frustrating as I would die and have to restart.
Butterfly Key

I have completed the (6th?) level, however I have searched until I am buggy looking for a Butterfly key.

Does anyone have any hints so I can soldier on?
This game is awesome.

It's past "The door is sealed with an unknown and mystical power." If you just finished F6, you won't be able to access it for a while.
This game is WAY too HARD like at lv1 i got gangbang by 2 rat and 1 bat then i reload and got raped by skeleton, when i finally reach the town i started to have hope that with proper equipment i wont get raped but guess what the second area literally throw enemy that can 1 round kill your party yayyyyyy.......... even at lv 8 and with best equipment most enemy can suddenly decide to kill you like wrath using shade x2 and somebody is dead and enemy drop pathetic ammount of money you basically HAVE to find money in the field or you wont even able to get the equipment at the shop which lead you to get raped by forest enemy harder and also enemy THIS hard shouldnt have high encounter rate im pacing back at forth at the heal crystal only move to 1 path to get treasure and clear out wraith then go back and heal repeat that more time and im getting frustated im usually tolerance to hard game but this is simply too much and it not even fun.
I can understand the frustration of having to fight for every inch.
Here something i think will make the game KEEP it diffcult battle without making it frustating:
1)Triple EXP/Gold/Item Drop per battle(this will make sense if pair with something else)
2)Reduce Encounter rate by about half.
3)Enemy cant gain upper hand on you or ATLEAST if you want that feature make the enemy have reduced stat for that turn so they cant actually 1 turn kill you eveen at full health.
4)MP cost need to be more leniant for longer dungeon.
5)REDUCED gold gain from exploring secret by 1/4 but also reduced shop price by 1/2 not everyone is gonna hyper focus on finding secret and i checked: over half of my money is from finding them in the field and i STILL barely able to buy most stuff at the shop so someone who isnt exploring is fucked.
Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback.

...

Given that players are still downloading the game half a decade after its release, and that the game has received a mixed reception for its difficulty, I am contemplating the development of an unofficial modded version to make life easier.

I'm thinking of including a special item to modify the party's level, along with free heals and gold. And I've got a couple ideas about dealing with the encounters.
Will the save file be compatible i will wait for this version, either way dont give the player "free" gold outta nowwhere if that the case then it will be too forgiving with everyone having 99 of everything lol just make battle more rewarding(60 gold per battle is stupidly low i need 5 battles to even affort a simple revive).I dont know what free healing is? IS it after ever every level up you gain a f ull heal or is it literally every battle you get a full heal?(either way is fine to me). Special item to "modify" the player level? So more exp per battle is toggable or is it literally a cheat that let you get lv99?

Also another problem if you wanna buy more item from shop you literally have to backtrack allllll the way back even with short cut it preety long and tedius maybe there will be an item that instantly teleport you to all town you visit but you still need to go back to the dungeon yourself?
