Castle Oblivion Remake - A journey through memory lane

Having played the original title back in 2009 or something I had some mixed expectations for the Remake of this game. Let's get down to it.

Story
The story is as in the original game, with a touch of better writing and less typos which is a good thing. I won't go deep into the plot other than your party making your way through the Castle - And if you thought you're gonna spend 20 hours walking through castle halls, you're wrong! The game contain many colored and different themed dungeons.

Mapping
The mapping has had an amazing overhaul from the original title which suffered from some empty mapping throughout the game. Here however, maps are filled up and neat looking, even with the original RTP. luiishu535 is one of the best mappers when it comes to utilizing the original RTP as displayed in his Castle Oblivion 3 game.

Music
The music used in this game makes a great impact - of the positive sort! Everything from Grandia to Rayman can be found and makes for some nostalgia in several maps.

Characters
I've enjoyed the characters in this game as everyone has a personality of their own, which is important in a game lasting over 10 hours in my opinion.

Gameplay
The game features whole 20 hours of gameplay which is alot. Normally I like to set the bar to around 12. But the game has held me entertained, with it's puzzles, mapping and dialogthe twenty hours doesen't feel like a complete drag. You won't need to spend hours grinding, even though you will benefit from it (like in all rpgs). The recovery crustals that are found around in the game can be broken and used to get items and upgrades - Which kinda reminds me of Shovel Knight where you can break checkpoints to get more points, a neat touch anyhow!

Sum
All in all, this remake makes veteran players of the series like myself happy by giving it an "extreme makeover" and I would definitely think the game attracts newer players to the series as well!
