The Vastness
Genre: Adventure
Flavors: Mystery, Horror
In The Vastness you play as Jess, a mysterious young woman who found herself transported to an unknown realm just known as The Vastness. Travel into the deserted landscape and find your way out, look out for enemies and survive as your health dwindles as you move.

A decent sized maze, two different endings, each one with a specific boss, a landscape that will drive you into despair as it has no reference points and a disturbing soundtrack.

Controls are Enter as the action button and X for the menu or to backtrack.

This game is very short and can be completed within 15 to 20 minutes. The goals are not always very clear, so that's my main concern, and while some people will for sure call me lazy due to my awful mapping skills, the desolate environment was supposed to play out that way.
Hope you all enjoy it and I look forward to hearing your criticism as I want to get a whole lot better, this is my very first game and it didn't take me much to complete save for the long maze.

Update

Due to the glitch found, a new version has been updated, was missing a graphic.
Also another thing: while this game was intended to be closed in itself, in my mind I always wanted to make references to it; now things might change and I may do a longer sequel to properly explain and explore The Vastness, there's still much more to be said.

I really like the suspense-like atmosphere of this game. The music was pretty nerve-wracking at times. As frustrating as wandering around was at first I couldn't stop because I needed to know what this was all about. I got the normal ending, but for some reason I can't seem to get the other one...
I'm guessing I have to find the key that the shop owner was talking about. I keep wanting to go into that empty room because I think it's going to show me something but now I'm wondering if you put that in there just to confuse. xD If that was your intention then good job.

pick up the paper in the area to the right and it turns into a shovel!

mapping is...depressing. so open and empty...

cant find the key

cant figure out what the 4 digit code is

the mappings really meh
your poisoned for no reason.
theres no direction
no purpose
no fulfillment.

Ok first of all thank you for your input. The key is the four digit code, I'm sorry I didn't make it clear enough. As for the other ending: there is one clue and you have to really investigate what it says. Let's just say that part was taken from certain adventure gaming experiences.

I knew that shovel would bite me in the you know what.
I'm sorry it wasn't the experience you were expecting, some parts were intended to give a feeling of a desolate, empty place, and it wasn't really meant to be a happy game. Still it was only my first game and I intend to get better.

Doh! Of course that was the key. Sorry about that haha. Funny enough, after you said that I decided to
go back to the skeletons and click on them again. One bug that I noticed was I was able to go through to fight the store owner but right when I was about to fight him an error message popped up saying: Unable to find file: Graphics/Battlebacks1/DirtCave. I downloaded the game again to see if maybe something went wrong in my other download and it came up with the same game-breaking error. It wasn't that bad of a bug since all I had to do to fix it was change one of the Dirt file names to DirtCave to get it to play the battle sequence but I thought I'd let you know anyway.

As for the endings. I kind of felt like they were lacking something. You know, like there should have been a lot more to them, especially the Good Ending. I had so many questions about this realm and who that other monster was (since she didn't see him again in the Good Ending). So I thought that although the endings weren't bad, they seemed a little abrupt and could have explained things a bit more in my opinion.

I think what the game exceled more at though was invoking a type of feeling or creating a tense, frustrating, suspenseful experience, which I enjoyed a lot. So overall this wasn't bad for a first game! As purely a game player, not a developer at all, I thought it was interesting while it lasted.
Ok what in the world am I playing.
I think you should make some land marks like trees or
Arrows to point were you need to go next. nice game anyway
Thank you for your input. I know that it can get somewhat frustrating, but that is in part the purpose of the game, you are in a vast desert landscape and don't know exactly the way, if I were to put arrows or more indications it would diminuish the feeling of helplessness.
Glad you liked it.
