JB Hairboll in Murder Flub is a charming visual novel made for the NANORENO 2015 contest.
It features a full police cat gang and you as a private detectivcat solving a mysterious murder case.

A frog has been found dead and it is on to you and an adorable, but helpless police crew to find the culprit and recreate the scene. Beware, kittens and mystery await.

In itself is Murder Flub an atmospheric piece with that little something, and little substance. That is not to say it is predictable, but there really is only one path you can follow (although there are ways to screw up and get no information).

This right here sums up everything about the game.

What really makes this piece charming is the mixture of old-school detective commentary, classy jazz-tones and the mewing of cats and other small little touches of animal appearances.

I cannot really give away the story, it is very simply and the focus is clearly on how it is told.
The music supplies us with a nice cozy jazzy feeling which will be time and time interrupted to behold the adorableness of cats. I find the piano at times too loud and jarring, but it all in all sets the mood very well.

The backgrounds are simple photographs or edited ones to be a little bit blurrier which fit very well with the drawn characters.

As for the sound .. it is a weird mix of mediocre voiceacting and animal sounds which set a clear difference to the general tone of the game. You could either see it as distracting, or as amusing. For me it was definitely the latter.

Any call, really.

This game plays around with the old school, hard-boiled detective. It is straightforward in being serious while not being serious.
And it has cats.
If you don't want to play it now, then I don't know.
