SYNOPSIS and STORYLINE
This game includes the following: Sexual themes, political and religious themes, references to alcohol, blood, and vulgar language. Play at your own risk!

Demon Hunter is an old-school Turn-Based styled RPG game mixed with "monster capture" elements similar to games like Pokemon and Persona. The game features a simple, yet effective alchemy/crafting system with 50 different recipes to learn and master. The game also features a weapon/armor randomizer, where each drop can roll randomized stats, ranging from very common items to super rare legendary items with boosted stats. The game features 65 capturable demons.

Demon Hunter's story revolves around a young boy by the name of Alex, who is chosen by the Holy Order, the Demon Hunters to partake in the Demon Hunter Trials, where youth from around the world are sent on a journey to defeat the evil entities known as "Legion". Alex soon finds out that there is much more to his mission than just destroying demons and saving towns...will he succeed in liberating the world of the Legion, or will he fall like so many before him...?

Can't figure clue #4 of weapon quest.

"In a forest dark and cold.
There is an altar made of stone.
Within that altar is a portal to hell,
a place where the Legion, is sure to be felled."

Since the portal to hell is under Satact Village, it's not in a dark and cold forest. I have no idea where to look.

Tip: There was a Legion which made the villagers to zombies. Teleport through the cities until you can left to the west into the forest.

To add to what this fine gentleman (or woman?) said, it's in Blison Forest, directly west of Blison Town.
Thanks for prompt response. I completely forgot about that forest.
The game is great and I enjoy playing it.

Hi Fernyfer,

just noticed the ring-recipes for the chaledony-stones are missing too.
Moggo learns an ability at 28 - 30 - 32 demons caught. 30/4 = 7,5!)
I'll keep an eye out for the other ranking levels.
And my REVIEW is finally up.
I haven't finished the game yet, but I think it's really good. And the sense of humor is great by the way so great job!

It brings manly tears of joy to my eyes to read that, thank you! :D
This game hurt me in the feels. I saw alot of FF sprite characters and heard alot of familiar music.

Perhaps it'll get you to go back and revisit those awesome games? :D
It's clear to see how much inspiration I took from those games, as I grew up playing them since before I even knew how to read! I hope you enjoyed my masterpiece.

I wouldn't want to spoil anything, but if you continue on just a bit further in the story, you will know exactly where she went! :D
Just beat the game!

It's a very solid game, probably one of the better RPG Maker games I've played. I purchased a bunch of Steam games during the summer sale but actually found myself wanting to complete your game first.

The plot is somewhat straightforward or cliched (in the beginning mostly) but a good sense of humor and personality makes it likable. One can get a feel for your personality while playing the game and that's something missing from a lot of commercial games and a major reason why I like playing RPG Maker games.

The battle system's fairly good, especially all the Persona/SMT-like buffing/debuffing and damage over time tech that takes place in boss battles. The regular battles lack variety, however, and are often kind of a chore. It's almost always the same format or routine against one to three enemies with really similar HP and threat levels.

Also, most of the 60+ demons are redundant. The demons within each of the FFXIII-style classes (Ravager, Protector, Saboteur, Synergist, Medic) have very similar stats and skills, and the demons you capture in the newest areas outclass your old demons. Some areas have three Saboteurs or Syngergists with like 6-7 of the same skills and only 2-3 different skills that make very little difference. Also, there didn't seem to be any Protectors in the last two areas. I think the battle system needed at least one more layer of depth (such as an elemental strength and weakness mechanic, or a very palpable difference between physical defense and magic defense like in Pokemon) where the demons could be meaningfully different in order to justify having that many demons.

But overall there were a lot of memorable experiences and things you did well. Mapping and music selections were solid. The Miranda, Urnis, Robert and Ferny reappearances were a lot of fun; the sense of progression has a very nice old-school feel.

I did capture all the area demons plus the extra secret demon quest after Rank 4, but where do you initiate the Weapon of the Gods quest?

The game was mostly bug-free but I can recall a few bugs. One freezes the game, but the others were very minor.

  • When you talk to the giant on Pendon route (before you're able to gain access to the Swamp) the nearby enemies can aggro in the middle of the event and get stuck on Alex when the event ends. The player won't be able to input any commands and the game's basically frozen. I had to redo part of the route when I first encountered this because I hadn't saved for a few minutes.

  • Sometimes the call-out text over NPCs heads (such as "Quest") wouldn't update correctly and would stay over their heads even after accepting the quest. Unfortunately, I can't remember the exact circumstances or what might have caused this.

  • This one may be more of a feature than a bug, but it did seem unintentional. If you get a capture milestone after a battle, the monster/battle event will stay on the screen without disappearing, allowing you to immediately fight another battle with the same event.

DAMMIT PEOPLE, why does this game only have 1118 downloads??????

After playing 49&1/2 hrs enjoying almost every aspect of this game, I feel like I want to start all over again.

This game is that good.

If I thought I might do it justice I would write a review for at least 4&1/2 stars.

The mapping, characters, story, etc were all enjoyable and I laughed at several of the interactions between the characters.
I think the thing that it did not need was so many characters to use in your team of four. But it's understandable considering the story line needed them.

Again, one of the best games to relax and play for pure enjoyment on this site.

I must agree. This game is one of the very few really really good game.(a lot of good but i mean spectecular good)
Its very well done in every aspect and very much to do.The battles are good and i just can continue on but maybe i should try to write my first review because this game is a must for people who like this kind of games.
Many commercial games in this genre comes not even close to this gem.
Thank you for this game.
Hello all! Just throwing out a shameless plug to my next project!
If you liked Demon Hunter, then I'm sure you'll enjoy my newest game.

It's still fairly early in development, but there's already about 2 hours worth of demo gameplay available. You can check it out here:

Hello, I'm playing the game and really loving it! :)
However I'm having a bit of an issue in Accu City and I wanted to know if there's only one way to get the explosives?
I think I didn't do things in the right order and the problem is probably around the Concert Hall. I was curious and went into the Concert Hall before going to see Anastasia first and when I went out of it I saw the scene of the Demon Hunters talking about going to kill the Legion and entering the building..
After THAT I went to Anastasia for the first time and she sends me for the hermit to help and I find in the path that I need explosives to get pass it and when I get back to the city and find the Shady guy.. he tells me to go into the Concert Hall for his friend.. but in the Concert Hall everyone is already dead and my only option is to kill the Legion and save those souls trapped.. and then the building goes boom! XD
Now I'm stuck with the Shady guy because he is still telling me to go find his 'dead' friend.. >_<

I'll be playing a bit more still got one cave in Cancan route I didn't explore.. but I just wanted to know if I should start over the game (bc the previous save I had was right after I entered the Concert Hall! WHY?!) or if I dunno.. maybe I won't miss a lot if I just keep going to the next city? xD
Thanks for any reply in advance! :D
@Kyattchan: That is definitely a super weird bug! In all honesty, you won't miss much by just moving onto the next town. The computer I had Demon Hunter on has since retired and I'm unable to retrieve the file, so going back and checking what caused this is a no-go. :(

On another note, I'm glad you're enjoying it so far!
Epic length RPG. It was quite long but I think it turned out pretty good. Large sections of the game were a slog (especially towards the end where you have to fight the same boss 7 times), and most random encounters were also unnecessarily long. At some points of the game I had to grind a bit, and just barely made it past. But, oh baby, once you've dipped into the late game and have a solid party, it's pretty nice feeling.

Story was basically 'go around the world and collect stuff', your typical RPG plot. Nice thing though is each arc is different enough that you can tell them apart. It's always nice to not have to do the same things over and over. The battle mechanics is cool too. You build your own party out of pokemon-like creatures that you can catch in the wild. Of course most of the 50-60 you get will end up never used and I basically had to compare stats each time I got a new guy. I just had the main character, mog, a healer, and a ravager DPS guy. It didn't work too well at first since theres not much DPS going on, but I barely touched the crafting (though I got plenty of potion+, which was super useful even at the final boss). I like that there are many, many ways to get thru the game using any strats you can think of. Maybe there are much easier ways to get thru the game than what I had done. Makes the game seem really complex.

FF9 was my first FF so having so many of those songs in this game (when FF9 is underused in general) is pretty cool as well. Too bad the most epic song of FF9 wasnt used here (at least I didn't hear it anywhere). Mapping was nice, though some areas are pretty claustrophobic though I think that's just intended to make randoms harder to avoid.

At one point in Accu city (after a cutscene, cant remember which one), the player's THROUGH flag was left ON, so I noclipped from accu city all the way to blison farms. Couldn't get to blison town for some reason. I didn't save that though, so whatevers. Theres also lots of typos, like LY Y sword or other stuff littered in the dialogue.

Overall it's a nice game but parts of it were pretty slow to get through. Story wasn't super engaging (most of it is just 'go to A and fight B') Mechanics were complex and pretty interesting, had to change strats as I played, like on one legion boss I changed ravager for a synergist, I think, to increase survivability. Speaking of which, regular enemies might be a bit too durable. I also think theres not much variety in spell effects that enemies use. Like maybe half the game's spells are just damage over time spells. Maybe I just didn't use too many different party members. Complexity is good.

Glad I finally beat this game. I liked it.
