This was really enjoyable game for me. It was really fun, creepy and atmospheric and left me wanting to keep going and looking forward to chapter 2 of this 5 part game.

There's so much nostalgia to past horror games of old here (mostly resident evil) and for me this is a great thing being a big resident evil fan and the mansion setting for me is a big plus.

The forest area at the start is big sure but there are things to examine and check if you're willing to look around.

The mansion itself is very well laid out, mapping is good and you get told which area you're in each time you enter so you'll know exactly where you are. The mansion is well lit and atmospheric and when things do get darker (and it will for reasons I'm not going to say) there's a way to see where you're going. There's tons of things to examine and interact with. True some have no influence and are just there to examine while some do but that's the point i feel because it encourages exploration of everything and anything. Some things i examined also made me think we might be seeing these things or places down the line in future chapters and for me i found this interesting coz i want to go there and see what's, what.

There is a sprint button should you want to whizz round the mansion which is a nice feature but i actually didn't use it as much as others might. I liked walking around more than sprinting myself. There is one room where you can't sprint and that's the mansion foyer but i feel this is a deliberate no sprint zone and it's not a very big area so i don't really see this as being an issue to not be able to sprint in this one area, but some people might be like "why can't i sprint" so thought I'd share my impressions of this mechanic.

The game does give you hints of what items do in the inventory or their use and the descriptions are clear (can only speak from my own play through of it) and i had little trouble thanks to examining things and item descriptions. I like the old school feel of not having your hand held too much and as i said i felt the items obtained are explained clearly enough but where to use them is up to you to figure out. Also i did get that sense of accomplishment when i figured things out or got the next thing to move ahead.

I like the amount of save points scattered throughout chapter 1 as well. I like to save as often as i can myself and having a nice number of save points fits the bill because no one like to have to redo tons of stuff if they die right! A Small point i know but an important one. You can never save too often in my experience.

The sound queues and musical ambience used throughout are really good and made me either jump, think "what the hell" or "run awaaay". They do exactly what they're meant to do and that is create atmosphere and sense of dread and panic to any degree, depends on the person playing.

Being as this is a episodic style game the story is still a bit of a mystery which i myself enjoy and look forward to figuring out myself and i feel this is deliberate and all will come to light as we go forward in future chapters. I do feel there could be more in-depth interaction with your friends in specific areas of the mansion though. Getting to have a chat with them would be cool to see maybe some dialogue choices? not to many just like a few.

The controls work, The mechanics work, the puzzles work, the atmosphere is very well done, the sound queues are ace and the preview snippet at the end is a nice touch and a nice teaser of what lies ahead for us.
