The final battle is about to begin. The party faces the demon lord. The special music sets it.
Turns out, they weren't quite prepared for the final battle. In fact, they died.

A few seconds later and one of these brave heroes finds himself a few years in the past, in his old home town, as a ghost.
Working with his younger self, he has to foil the evil demon lords plans and change his own fate, all while not revealing who he really is.

This game was made for the 'golden week of RPG Maker 2003'-Contest and uses the RTP graphics provided with the software.

What's going to happen?

The contest is over and I think some really great games came out of it! Thank you very much for playing Ghost Visit if you have, it really means a lot!

So what's going to happen? As you may or may not know, the ending of Ghost Visit was very rushed and did not tell the story the way I wanted it to. Deadlines, you know.

  • Finish the plotline with a different ending
Like I said, it was very rushed
  • Implement more gameplay elements
Only one of them actually made it to the contest version
  • Change the graphics out for 2k RTP
I just really hate how the 2k3 RTP looks, the 2k RTP is much better

I'm not too sure how this will work out with different versions. This game is very dialogue-heavy, and playing through the whole game again to see a few new minutes of gameplay could be very... tedious. If savegames are compatible across versions, this wouldn't be so bad, but I don't know if that will be possible.
Games like this are better published in big chunks of new content, but I also don't want to let people who want to play wait for so long. We'll see.

Hmm, time paradox/alternate universe with ghosts. I believe I am sold. Though the idea of the rushed ending doesn't appeal so I may hold off a review until you update it to your expanded vision.
Pretty good, now I want a full game about this...

I would enjoy a full game. This was pretty fun, especially reading people's minds(hehehe).
So I found a small glitch in the game that I didn’t include in the review that I just finished writing up for it so I thought that I would mention it here:

Apparently after the scene when Arthur delivers the table to Margaret and you have the option to select what choice of dialogue or action he’s supposed to say or do next, if you select the “sneak away” option twice, after finishing up the next scene, Arthur’s walking speed is now of that of Sonic The Hedgehog’s. (Weeeeeeee!!!)

Well, that's of course the secret speedrun option! :P
Thanks for reporting, will be fixed. I'm not sure how fast I should update, honestly. Next update would have the ending removed, but it would just end in a "DEMO END" instead. Hm. :\
I don't think that removing the ending would be a good idea. All the mysteries that it set up to be resolved in the full version are what made this game so interesting in the first place.
I really enjoyed the concept and the way this was written. Obviously I knew what the massive twist at the end was going to be given that it is mentioned in the summary but I appreciate that it would have been a shame to keep such a great idea secret. There was plenty of other stuff about the ending that surprised me anyway.

About the ending (spoilers):
I've been hearing a lot about the ending being rushed but personally I enjoyed it. I think sometimes a more minimalist approach can be more effective and given that all we see is two people talking in a room and nothing else then that really mirrors the confusion that the protagonist is feeling at that point.
I definitely love this game, its great mapping, the conversation way with the villagers, and not meaningful but funny choices, although its ending is some kind of rush and ends with no clear feeling of achievement... Curse you, deadlines! I wonder what the game finally would be if there was one more week could be spent on adding a real finish or some nicer ending to it.

I also wonder what is happend if Margaret will die and become a new ghost...
