Progress Report

Outlook for "GoldenGuard:GO!"

Hello!

A lot of time flew by since my last progress report. And in all honesty, I didn't work much on the completely new version of GoldenGuard. However, I found new motivation for my little golden gem. Especially because this game will still be a simple game with no dialoges or super complicated stuff. It's managable.

So, how's my current progress for GoldenGuard:GO! ?

I heard your complains and changed several core mechanics, added new mechanics and am still in progress of creating new upgrades. All maps/areas will be redesigned.
The following list will be updated from time to time. It lists every finished "feature" or big change. Please be aware that these changes will not occur in the basic downloadable game (GoldenGuard).

MECHANICS

- Money you earn from enemies are now visible collectables

- Armour now protects your newest hearts instead of oldest

- Completely changed "Fairy Grapple" with timing mechanic (gif)

- New sword "Shock Blade" with special ability

- New weapon "Calcification Bow" which stuns enemies and interacts with the surrounding (gif)

CONTROLS

- Battle was a "hit & run"-mess. Now you can strafe (fix your face-direction) which makes battle much easier. This changed the way our heroine interacts with objects (because RPG Maker is a bitch) so I rewrote the basic interaction mechanic

- Moveable objects (like crates) can now be pushed AND pulled

- Jumping down ledges

Because english isn't my native language, GoldenGuard:GO! will also have very little spoken words. If any.

PREVIEWS (Testmap)

New collectable heart-container. Strafing. Coins.

Prototype of the new Fairy Grapple. Can also cross multiple hooking-points.

Calcification Bow. Freezes/Stuns your enemy for several seconds.
Bow must be charged and has a cooldown.

It can also interact with fire to hurt enemies...

... or create new fires.

Final RTP Release: Out Now!

O hai!

Just wanted to point out that the final release for GoldenGuard, within the rules of the "Golden Week of RM2k3"-Contest, is now uploaded. I changed anything that I don't liked or was incomplete and added a few other details. So I'm very pleased with the changelog.

From this point I will ignore the contest's rules and develop the game with everything I've planned from the beginning. Bug reports in regard of the original will be considered for the new version - so yes, the Final Release won't be changed at all. I won't delete the RTP download, so the original can still exist.

I think the most interesting parts of the update are the counting of playtime and completion rate. Both numbers are visible after the credits.

This was everything. Thanks for reading!

Announcement

GoldenGuard will become GoldenGuard:GO!

O Hai, players!

Firstly, if you played GoldenGuard: Thank you!
This is my first finished game and the experience I got out of this project was very valuable for my other bigger projects.
However, I want to expand this game a little bit more because the lack of time killed most of the zones and the contest's rules forbid graphical edits (limited possibilities). With more zones I would love to make this game more metroidvania-like and improve the current leveldesigns and gameplay. Also improving some scripts.

From the start I planned 14 zones which will come back into the game. So you will have in addition: Desert, Vulcano, Coast, Tower, Island Temple, Village, Snowy Woods, Harbour, Water Ruins (these aren't the final names).

I also want to improve the current Fairy Grapple because for now it's only a reversed Infinity Rope. But you could do much more things with this, like aiming and throwing. I think I will combine this with a climbing ability. The Rope itself will also be improved because it has no real gameplay purpose. I just need more variation in gameplay.
Of course there will be more enemies, upgrades, weapons, protection and for sure stuff I can't think about yet.

The RTP based graphics won't be removed. But now, after the contest, I am "allowed" to edit them or draw some additional graphics (in RTP style). This will allow me to get rid of all messages in the message boxes and improve the optic of many maps (of course this won't improve my mapping-skills).

And this was everything I have to say for now.
Please report game errors in the current game so I can quickfix them.
Thank you!

EDIT: I will not create GG:G! from scratch. That would be foolish. After reaching version number 2.0, I will "submit a new game" because it will be much different.
