The rivalry between Craze and LockeZ began centuries ago when the lifeless planet earth first began to spin and form the galaxy. In the sky, the very first star appeared. Neither LockeZ nor Craze was going to have any of that, and so they both jumped up to punch the universe back into eternal darkness, but they collided in mid-air. Each blamed the other, and while they were bickering, RPG Maker was invented.

They have finally decided to settle their dispute once and for all by facing off in an EPIC BOSS BATTLE.

Craze's team consists of four paladins, come to rescue Myra, a damsel in distress who was kidnapped and taken to Direvil Darkfort. LockeZ's team consists of four third-grade girls, who are really annoyed that none of the minions in their evil fortress believe that they're really darklords.

Players can play as either team, going through a different game depending on which party they play as - one game made by LockeZ and one made by Craze. The two parties will meet at the center of Direvil Darkfort and the player will fight the other team in a fantastic final boss battle.

For the first week after release, after playing both games, players were able to vote on which version they liked more. This was to establish once and for all who is the greatest game designer in the universe.

AND THE RESULTS ARE IN. CRAZE ARISES VICTORIOUS OVER THE EVIL OVERLORDS. LOCKEZ SLINKS BACK INTO A THOUSAND YEAR STASIS TO PLOT HIS REVENGE.

YOU'RE GOING DOWN, VILLAINOUS SCUM!

For posterity, the original call-out topic: http://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/17963/
OH DEAR GOD! I can already see that this is going to be Legen-...wait for it...

...DARY! Legendary! XD
A question: Is there a time limit to vote?

Because I may only be able to download this game in Thursday or Friday...
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

There's now a link in the body of the game description to a page where you can vote.

The voting period ends exactly six days from the time of this post. Any votes after that will not be counted. That should give people outside the US until the weekend to play and vote, since they don't have memorial day off today.
Ok, thanks for the info! I'll try to get to play this ASAP! :)

Hot damn, I wasn't sure what to expect. This is a neat idea! I'm psyched.

This game makes me hope there'll be more Duel games in the future.

One of my hopes by doing this was that this would become a thing. They can't always be backed by makerscore like this one (gasp!), but this "mirror match" duel turned out to be pretty fun!

Well, this is going to be an interesting one. LockeZ, your game had worse gameplay than one of my games. The easiest enemies are insanely hard, there isn't enough healing, there's no way to revive dead allies and dead allies don't revive at the conclusion of a fight. You have no reviving items. Once a character is dead, she's simply out for the rest of the game, irrevocably.

Craze, your game was much better, until I reached the girls. My attacks barely touched them and then they wiped me out in one turn.

Well, at least I was able to finish LockeZ' game.
I just played through both games. Both games had their moments, but I think Craze's is game is stronger. For one, the skills were more useful; compare Leon Radiant Blade which was both an effective attack and a good all-party heal to Anathema's Bloodspatter; which was almost completely useless. To be honest, only Toxicoil and Project F were all that useful. Mortissiga never seemed all that useful in any of the fights; she ended dying early on the Paladin fight, and if anything, the fight got easier since I did't have her weighing the rest of the party down.

I once saw something comparable in WC3 - a "cinematic duel" where combatants would animate attacks against the model of the other player and a judge would decide how much damage (to 1k HP) the attack deals based on how much he likes it. Technical faults (such as forgetting to remove added units or doing actual damage to the target unit) would damage the user. Furthermore, combatants could decide to use heals (following the rules of attacks) or to use defensive techniques to block an attack (which reduces damage and causes retaliation damage if the migitation exceeds damage taken). First one to 0 HP loses.

For anyone doing this in the future, I would highly recommend parties of only 2-3 characters, because holy crap. Five minutes of random battles is not enough time to learn how to use your own 20 different skills, which makes it rather insane to also have to respond to twenty different enemy attacks.

I've tried both games, but, so far, I haven't beaten either. With LockeZ's game, I kinda like how there's auto-restoration after battle, but the lack of revival is certainly a big obstacle with the boss fight. I really liked Craze's game because of the crazy number of buffs that party had access to, but, the boss fight had each opponent act twice, which is what eventually killed that party. That, and while revival at least existed, the amount of HP after revival was next to useless.

I dunno, though. There was, probably, a mess of skills in both games that I didn't use, either because they didn't seem useful, or I saw options that seemed to me more appropriate to the situation.
Honestly, the buffs weren't all that important. Keeping everyone's HP up was vastly more important. Also Stalwart Guard is your best friend. It is the best friend you will ever have.

Well, crap...

I'm afraid I had to betray my own team and vote for Craze, despite his game having somewhat annoying random encounters and less original combat mechanics. I liked the ideas and concepts behind LockeZ's mechanics better in principle, especially how skills build up on each other (for example the Dark Barriers).
Unfortunately, in practice, Craze's game worked a lot better and the battle against the Girls was both challenging and very satisfying to fight. The characters' respective powers complemented each other well and allowed for many different strategic options.
While I think LockeZ's mechanics and characters were more interesting in theory, they just didn't allow for a lot of variation in playstyle and felt rather stale and limited. Add to that the accidental "permadeath", somewhat poor balancing and no ways to deal with debuffs and enemy buffs, ultimately these battles just came down to slowly chipping away at your enemies and hoping for the best.

Please don't feed me to the sharks, LockeZ, Sir! I am still your loyal servant... maybe...

I beat and loved LockeZ's game. I actually never had anyone die on me during my run, so I never had to deal with permadeath. Honestly though, I think it was because of another (what I assume to be) bug: Anathema's Blood Suck skill is supposed to power up my next healing spell, but during the boss fight, the Blood Suck state never left her. So every time I could use Bloodspaatter, the entire party was healed by an increased amount. I really appreciated the finite encounters, as it allowed me to get used to the characters before the actual battle. But the fact that I could keep everyone healed via skills really made me feel like I overcame a challenge.

I'm working through Craze's game, and it's actually crashing on me a couple of times. There's an error with the FTB system that crashes the game if you press right too many times after someone acts. I had to restart the fight a couple of times because of this. The random encounters did nothing for me, though, as I could easily mow down opponents with Leon's Broad Sweep and nothing else, meaning I really had no idea as to the intricacies of each character by the time I really needed to. Unfortunately, the inclusion of items were a minus for me, as I had enough of them to not need to worry about any strategy. I just buff, attack, use item, repeat.

I'll give my vote after I beat Craze's game.

My opinion is that Craze's game was better. I liked the structure and narrative of LockeZ's more, with the Evil queen seemingly getting more attitude from her own hirelings than the heroes, but each encounter in LockeZ's game felt like a brick wall and there weren't many interesting strategies. Add in that death is irreversible and I liked Craze's better despite his typical "story what's that do I eat it?" approach. The fact that his bosses could kill in one round is a definite knock against him though.

It's kinda meant to be a kick in the teeth the first time. That's why there's no game over for them. If you decide to try again, know that Mystic Seal, Crystalize and Stalwart Guard are your most important skills. The girls follow a set pattern!

That's actually really cool! I'll have to try it with kids at summer camp.

x_x my method entirely relied on getting buffs up while debuffing the Sapient and Mortissiga. welp!

I - It is? That's bizarre. I don't know why that happens.

The random encounters sucked. They didn't fulfill their intended purpose. Part of the dev time being limited. =/

Hey, Kiddos had a story...

Dark Assembly is a crapshoot, I'll admit (although you CAN mitigate even without Stalwart Guard every turn. Orison -> Radiant Blade and then Prayer/Inspire/Spotlight as needed; make sure to use Mystic Seal too, and Crystalize if she uses Self-Consume or Soul Grasp). The first boss is meant to be the proper Duel, with Dark Assembly being more of a bonus round. But! They're both part of the game, so both must be judged.
