Latest Patch: 1.69. If you have an earlier version, please download the latest patch as soon as possible.

The download has been updated to version 1.69. It includes all fixes up to this point. There is no need to re-download if you have patched in the fixes separately.

You know that game many aspiring devs create? The one starring their friends, often times based on a chat room, or some forums, or a MMO... or perhaps a fangame that barely resembles its source material. The one that gets maybe a half hour of gameplay finished and is completely unintelligible to anyone except that group of friends. Yeah, that one. Now, what if someone actually saw that project all the way through, and attempted to actually make it a fun, accessible, and playable game that was faithful to its source material?

Enter Legend of Balance. This game originally started out as a fun little project for friends, starring characters from Final Fantasy XIV. Over time, and with a ton of effort, it changed into a complete game of its own. It still stars our characters, and there are still a few injokes, but the plot has been set up as such that any Final Fantasy fan can get into the game and enjoy it as a light hearted Final Fantasy romp. Players of FFXIV will find quite a bit to enjoy as well. The story of the game takes place inbetween the end of FFXIV 1.0 and the start of A Realm Reborn(if you haven't played FFXIV, this part probably doesn't matter, and the game can be standalone).

The game revolves around a group of heroes, champions of the realm of Eorzea. In the midst of an intense battle to decide the fate of Eorzea, the heroes are transported away before facing certain death at the hands of Bahamut. Finding themselves separated in a brand new world, the heroes begin a journey to reunite and find a way home. However what starts off as a simple quest quickly unfolds into a classic journey of crystals, great evil, and steadfast allies. Before this adventure ends, they will discover the truth behind this strange new world, and uncover the binds that tie it to their own home and beyond.

-30 to 40 hours of gameplay, including a multitude of sidequests.

-Enjoy a faithfully recreated Final Fantasy battle system. Everything is as you remember it from the classics!

-Utilize classic abilities, including commands such as Jump, Runic, Blitz, Mime, Throw, Mix, Blue Magic, Dualcast, and much more, along with new commands and abilities based on other games in the series, such as Draw Out from Tactics.

-Equip Magicites to gain access to powerful summons and customize your stat growth.

-A huge cast of unique playable characters, including several hidden ones.

-Find and use faithfully recreated equipment. Favorites like the Ultima Weapon, Illumina, Brave Blade/Chicken Knife, Offering, and much, much more is all here to find and use to become unstoppable!

-Dozens of sidequests ensure there's plenty to do, with no need for excess grinding.

-Face off against familiar foes and brand new ones, including a nostalgia filled bonus dungeon for those who complete the main story.

-Facing a foe that your current party can't handle? Switch party members anytime, even in the middle of a fight!

-Buy rare and unique items at the Auction House, and battle in the Colosseum!

-Take part in minigames, including fishing and an arcade-style airship shooter.

-Customizable Battle Speed, Battle Mode, and Difficulty will get you the experience you want, be it tough as nails or a more relaxed game.

Playing the game at higher resolution

Hey all! I just wanted to post a link to an upscaler that will let you play pretty much any rpgmaker game at a much higher resolution.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/magpie.mirror/

Download this and follow the instructions, open Magpie, then the game, then press alt+F11. I'd suggest using either the Anime4k or CRT upscalers for LoB. This will let you play the game in fullscreen and it will look really nice!

Has anyone so far commented on the fact that the url identifies your game as the 7777th one on the site?

Hope this helps..From the adventures guild
A belated delivery. A merchant needs help delivering supplies to the end on the plains.,
Don't have any supplies and can't find any..
Also can't get past the Checkpoint.
I have spoke to the NPC'S 5 times and nothing happens. But I'll try it all over again Thanks
@LightningLord2: It's been pointed out, but that image definitely sums it up! Game's had pretty good luck so far, for sure.

@fharden: They were given to you with the quest, all you need to do is head to the Inn on the Plain and speak to the NPCs.

The checkpoint will open up with story. You have to finish the events in Cecille, and then some events in Rosalia before you can get through. If you're stuck, you need to talk to the unique looking guy at the bar, then head to the manor and speak to the guard inside.
I did all that again and nothing happened. My quest items are
Miners Key--Memolocs--world map--locked box--Explosives.

I talked to everyone in the bar and everyone guard in the mannor nothing. guess I'll just start the game over
@fharden
Did you climb Mount Rosalia and meet an NPC named "Allie"?, trying to see where you are specifically.
OK thanks I just did that and got it now onward.
When you re fishing,i really dont know what im doing but i caught the fish :) ,but the chest? Is it possible to caught that too?
EDIT:I got the blitz input.
Blitz input for Fievel, how is it working? It only says Incorrect.
For fishing, what you want to do is try to reel the fish in when it's not pulling against you. If you reel while it is pulling against you, your line will break faster. As for the chests, you can catch them but you'll need better fishing rods, with some chests taking better rods than others.

For Blitz, in the help window it says what buttons you need to press. When the input window comes up, press those buttons then confirm. You can call the help window in the skill menu by pressing space.

EDIT: Oh, you got it. Cool! Good luck~

You can fish up the chests with better fishing rods~

As for Blitz, each blitz has a combination (you can look at the help text mid battle or in the skills menu outside battle for the combos. Select Blitz, a window will come up, input the combination for that specific Blitz, and then press enter to activate it (though you can let the progress bar run its course without pressing enter, it should still go off). I hope that helps!
Download has been updated to version 1.3, and a patch has been uploaded for older versions. Aside from a few fixes, I've optimized some scripts and found a window that was not disposing properly. After doing this and playing for a while, I noticed no slowdown. People who have been having issues with it, please let me know if this update helped.
This question is directed at the game creators and does contain a spoiler. Other posters read at own risk.

I just have to ask, who benefits best from the Genji Glove I got from Kaayu, which I have to admit was a heck of a fight?
Curious why menu was remapped from escape, and if there is a sprint key

also, holy shit this game looks like it has a metric asston of content. I think I am gonna have a lot of fun with this
Really fun game so far. But could someone tell me how to get into the Waterworks? Thanks.

Edit: Thanks to Orophin below.

Is this the underground waterway in Cecille? It opens up naturally through the story.

Spoiler'd for story:

After visiting Cecille for the first time, talking to Marz in the bar, then visiting the manor and fighting Kaayu, some events will happen and you'll gain control of Level 99. Once you speak with Marz in the bar, he suggests going to the port south of Cecille as he knows someone with there with the key. After the events at the port, if you remember some earlier NPC dialog, the entrance to the underground waterway is in the NE corner of Cecille, near the church.
If anyone wonders how to get some optional party members here are some hints; game devs feel free to correct ;) :

Character 1
Azran, the Dragoon
• When in Ashieeton Lv. 2 (there's Azran's workshop on a cliff) when talking to Azran choose an option regarding his recruitment to the party.
• Since he cannot leave town unattended for it to develop properly, he tasks you with finding a replacement for him and advises to ask around bars.
• The replacement is Eden whom I happened to find at the pub in Aquaria, although it may be in a different city because it might be random where she'll appear.
• When back at Azran's workshop in Ashieeton, Eden says she'll replace him after you give her something. That something she needs is an "Iron Celata Visor" which IIRC drops occasionally from enemies in Patch Tower and the desert surrounding it. Presenting ICV to Eden will award you with Azran as a party member.

Character 2
Kaayu, the Dancer
• First you need to acquire an airship.
• From there head to Enaya and talk to Elia in the doctor's house and she'll tell you that to heal Kaayu she needs water from a forest I-can't-remember-its-name-at-the-moment. Actually I'm not sure if it is required to talk with Elia to initiate the search.
• When in airship, fly to a valley north of Garuda's Peak where there's a larger forest to the west, smaller forest to the right and a snow plain between them. Land on the snow plain and head to the larger forest. Enemies here shouldn't prove too much problem, a party of around level 30+ (which you should have at that point of the story) will be enough. There are no boss fights here, if you're wondering. When in forest simply head north and approach a spring, press the Action button, and head back to Enaya.
• In Enaya talk to Elia inside the doctor's house and she will prepare a potion which will heal Kaayu's condition.
• As an addded bonus we are treated with some background regarding Kaayu's mysterious disappearance at the bridge to Palomton.

Character 3
Divinus, the Time Mage Alchemist
• After acquiring airship head to southeastern continent and land near a lone house which is located in an eastern valley. Enter the house on the world map and you'll arrive at the Hunter's Lodge. Inside the building, head to the room on the left side of the map with a silver-haired man in it and accept the NM quest.
• Now head to the Western Forest, the first dungeon of the game, and south to the save point in the southern map of the dungeon there'll be a star. Stepping on it will initiate the battle against the spider. Defeat it and head back to Hunter's Lodge.
• Talk with Argus to finalize your joining to the hunter club and go upstairs.
• In the right-most room there will be a girl with black and white hair. Talking with her will result in her joining the party.
• Divinus can Mix items to have a variety of effects and can use Magic to toy with time a bit in a battle.

Also, regarding an event in Enaya:
There's a continuity-of-sorts error when talking with Elia after releasing Tanaka from his priso: in Aquaria there's a scene where Kaayu is taken to Enaya by Elia to watch over the Dancer's treatment, but there are texts from older build where Elia says that Kaayu was found outside. Nothing major, but looks kinda weird.
@mangnaangemon For the genji glove it is really personal preference. There isnt really a best character to put it on. Just remember that you get any side benefits from both weapons. So for example, if you use a dagger offhand with a dagger user, their crit will go up with both weapons. 2 daggers will give you really high crit. Or an elemental sword will allow both weapons to hit weaknesses. Dual wield in this game works like FF6, where you actually hit with each weapon rather than just a combined attack. Grats on winning, you do not have to beat that fight to continue, so gj!

@Omnion testers were annoyed at having cancel and menu as the same key. Spacebar sprints, and you can turn on auto dash in the config too. Hope you enjoy, there is a fair bit to do!

@Noel Nice tips! Thanks for pointing out that spoiler, I'll get that fixed.

Sorry for the brevity of responses my phone doesnt like this site haha.
I can agree that there's even more to do than in the original release. ;)

Also, the new update appears to improve the performance of the game as it's not so laggy as it was before. Thanks for the hard work there. ;)
Glad to hear it! I also increased the base battle speed a bit... max speed should be pretty quick now. If it's still not fast enough, let me know, but I checked several FF games and I couldn't find one where the bars moved faster on their max speed.

EDIT: Ok, looks like FF4CC is just a little bit faster on max speed. I'll think about adding another speed setting for people who want even faster ATB. It'll make Haste useless though, haha.
