Latest Patch: 1.69. If you have an earlier version, please download the latest patch as soon as possible.

The download has been updated to version 1.69. It includes all fixes up to this point. There is no need to re-download if you have patched in the fixes separately.

You know that game many aspiring devs create? The one starring their friends, often times based on a chat room, or some forums, or a MMO... or perhaps a fangame that barely resembles its source material. The one that gets maybe a half hour of gameplay finished and is completely unintelligible to anyone except that group of friends. Yeah, that one. Now, what if someone actually saw that project all the way through, and attempted to actually make it a fun, accessible, and playable game that was faithful to its source material?

Enter Legend of Balance. This game originally started out as a fun little project for friends, starring characters from Final Fantasy XIV. Over time, and with a ton of effort, it changed into a complete game of its own. It still stars our characters, and there are still a few injokes, but the plot has been set up as such that any Final Fantasy fan can get into the game and enjoy it as a light hearted Final Fantasy romp. Players of FFXIV will find quite a bit to enjoy as well. The story of the game takes place inbetween the end of FFXIV 1.0 and the start of A Realm Reborn(if you haven't played FFXIV, this part probably doesn't matter, and the game can be standalone).

The game revolves around a group of heroes, champions of the realm of Eorzea. In the midst of an intense battle to decide the fate of Eorzea, the heroes are transported away before facing certain death at the hands of Bahamut. Finding themselves separated in a brand new world, the heroes begin a journey to reunite and find a way home. However what starts off as a simple quest quickly unfolds into a classic journey of crystals, great evil, and steadfast allies. Before this adventure ends, they will discover the truth behind this strange new world, and uncover the binds that tie it to their own home and beyond.

-30 to 40 hours of gameplay, including a multitude of sidequests.

-Enjoy a faithfully recreated Final Fantasy battle system. Everything is as you remember it from the classics!

-Utilize classic abilities, including commands such as Jump, Runic, Blitz, Mime, Throw, Mix, Blue Magic, Dualcast, and much more, along with new commands and abilities based on other games in the series, such as Draw Out from Tactics.

-Equip Magicites to gain access to powerful summons and customize your stat growth.

-A huge cast of unique playable characters, including several hidden ones.

-Find and use faithfully recreated equipment. Favorites like the Ultima Weapon, Illumina, Brave Blade/Chicken Knife, Offering, and much, much more is all here to find and use to become unstoppable!

-Dozens of sidequests ensure there's plenty to do, with no need for excess grinding.

-Face off against familiar foes and brand new ones, including a nostalgia filled bonus dungeon for those who complete the main story.

-Facing a foe that your current party can't handle? Switch party members anytime, even in the middle of a fight!

-Buy rare and unique items at the Auction House, and battle in the Colosseum!

-Take part in minigames, including fishing and an arcade-style airship shooter.

-Customizable Battle Speed, Battle Mode, and Difficulty will get you the experience you want, be it tough as nails or a more relaxed game.

Playing the game at higher resolution

Hey all! I just wanted to post a link to an upscaler that will let you play pretty much any rpgmaker game at a much higher resolution.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/magpie.mirror/

Download this and follow the instructions, open Magpie, then the game, then press alt+F11. I'd suggest using either the Anime4k or CRT upscalers for LoB. This will let you play the game in fullscreen and it will look really nice!

Game has a good story, but the difficulty level jumps too high too fast. The creatures in the mine are 3-4 times more powerful than the other creatures at this time and they owned me waaaaay too fast.

There are upgrade your equipment at the shop in Palomton if you happened to miss them, I can see the mine being a bit challenging without going there first.

There are also options in config to adjust the monsters difficulty, make sure it isn't set to hard.
Yeah, Hard difficulty is meant to be pretty challenging.

I know people play games different ways. I grew up on the older systems so I'm no stranger to grinding. If you stay in an area long enough to skip battles (blue exclamation mark) you should be more than strong enough to proceed. This probably isn't necessary for Normal difficulty, but for Hard some grinding is probably required for some of the optional stuff such as the side quests.

ChrisMastery: If you look at the directory, over half of the file size is attributed to the Audio folder. As posted in the game description, the authors did not want to sacrifice the audio quality so it has made the game size rather larger than normal. The bulk remainder of data size is in the Graphics folder.
I didn't have enough money for all the gear. Should probably grind some for it. Also, I didn't buy it because I didn't know what might be in upcoming chests.
@ChrisMastery It does have the rtp files needed for the game but not much extra. Honstly the soundtrack is just too huge, it was a design mistake. I could compress the audio further but the game would still be in the 700 mb size. If this would help you be able to download, let me know.

@mangnaangemon Ack, I am sorry to hear you are having trouble. As suggested make sure the difficulty is on normal... I don't recall it spiking that fast on normal but I will say that due to my damage algorithims balancing the early game was really rough. If it is unfair even on normal I am definitely willing to adjust it. Grinding shouldn't be needed on normal.
It was on normal. It took me about 3-4 rounds to kill one snake and they came in parties of 2. Plus they do about a quarter of your health with each attack. Maybe make an easy mode?
I actually had one in the game but removed it when testers said it wasn't needed, but I can toss it back in very easily. Did you have upgraded weapons? At the start, new gear makes a huge difference. I'll have a look at the mine specifically though, I probably shouldn't be expecting people to get a whole new gearset so early on when there's no sidequests. If you have gotten past it, feel free to give reports on later areas too. It should get easier in the next town because there will be several sidequests you can do for gil to upgrade your gear and get some exp.

Thanks for the feedback!
I did not have upgraded gear. I've learned in most rpgs you don't want to spend all your money on gear because sometimes you'll get a piece of gear out of a chest.

And I would like easy mode. I'm one of those gamers who mainly play for the story.
Yeah, there is some gear to find in chests, but I generally place gear you won't find in shops in chests. I'll go ahead and set up an Easy mode option and will upload a patch in a few.
Can you do it as a .exe? It's easier for me.

the game missing files

Missing files? Could you be more specific please?
sript krosk error line 89 name error uninitialized costant audio utfsext

sript krosk error line 89 name error uninitialized costant audio utfsext

All right, this happens to be due to a windows extraction error where our Japanese audio text file names are extracting as unicode, so the songs themselves are not downloading with the correct names. I found that having windows up to date and extracting with winrar will help that.

However, if you need a quick fix, I believe if you download the files individually. You should be able to keep playing the game.

Download these six files from the link:

Once downloaded, place the files in ffxivrpg > Audio > BGM

We have around 18 jobs, we have 18 characters and they all have unique jobs classes. And this game is complete but however we are actively fixing any bugs and problems that people are experiencing. Sorry for your issues with the files >_<.
Just wanted to point out that the latest fix for the world map fixed the last major issue I had with the game. Previously, after 30 minutes the world map would start lagging up, but I grinded mobs on the world map for about an hour to test the new patch and the game continued to run flawlessly.
@Jetvee: Don't multipost. Instead, use the Edit button below your initial post and add more to it. It's against the site rules.

I'd need to reupload the whole game to do that, so I'd rather not if possible. it's very, very simple to install. Just put the file in the Data folder of wherever you put the game.

Here's a link, this will update the Config with an easy mode option. On easy mode, monster attack, int, defense, and magic defense are reduced by 25%, and their speed is reduced by 20%. This should make the game really easy as long as you keep your equipment somewhat up to date. I would definitely only suggest this mode for beginners and people who do not want any challenge or just want the story, as it is not the intended gameplay experience. Let me know if you have any other problems and I'll do my best to help.
