Latest Patch: 1.69. If you have an earlier version, please download the latest patch as soon as possible.

The download has been updated to version 1.69. It includes all fixes up to this point. There is no need to re-download if you have patched in the fixes separately.

You know that game many aspiring devs create? The one starring their friends, often times based on a chat room, or some forums, or a MMO... or perhaps a fangame that barely resembles its source material. The one that gets maybe a half hour of gameplay finished and is completely unintelligible to anyone except that group of friends. Yeah, that one. Now, what if someone actually saw that project all the way through, and attempted to actually make it a fun, accessible, and playable game that was faithful to its source material?

Enter Legend of Balance. This game originally started out as a fun little project for friends, starring characters from Final Fantasy XIV. Over time, and with a ton of effort, it changed into a complete game of its own. It still stars our characters, and there are still a few injokes, but the plot has been set up as such that any Final Fantasy fan can get into the game and enjoy it as a light hearted Final Fantasy romp. Players of FFXIV will find quite a bit to enjoy as well. The story of the game takes place inbetween the end of FFXIV 1.0 and the start of A Realm Reborn(if you haven't played FFXIV, this part probably doesn't matter, and the game can be standalone).

The game revolves around a group of heroes, champions of the realm of Eorzea. In the midst of an intense battle to decide the fate of Eorzea, the heroes are transported away before facing certain death at the hands of Bahamut. Finding themselves separated in a brand new world, the heroes begin a journey to reunite and find a way home. However what starts off as a simple quest quickly unfolds into a classic journey of crystals, great evil, and steadfast allies. Before this adventure ends, they will discover the truth behind this strange new world, and uncover the binds that tie it to their own home and beyond.

-30 to 40 hours of gameplay, including a multitude of sidequests.

-Enjoy a faithfully recreated Final Fantasy battle system. Everything is as you remember it from the classics!

-Utilize classic abilities, including commands such as Jump, Runic, Blitz, Mime, Throw, Mix, Blue Magic, Dualcast, and much more, along with new commands and abilities based on other games in the series, such as Draw Out from Tactics.

-Equip Magicites to gain access to powerful summons and customize your stat growth.

-A huge cast of unique playable characters, including several hidden ones.

-Find and use faithfully recreated equipment. Favorites like the Ultima Weapon, Illumina, Brave Blade/Chicken Knife, Offering, and much, much more is all here to find and use to become unstoppable!

-Dozens of sidequests ensure there's plenty to do, with no need for excess grinding.

-Face off against familiar foes and brand new ones, including a nostalgia filled bonus dungeon for those who complete the main story.

-Facing a foe that your current party can't handle? Switch party members anytime, even in the middle of a fight!

-Buy rare and unique items at the Auction House, and battle in the Colosseum!

-Take part in minigames, including fishing and an arcade-style airship shooter.

-Customizable Battle Speed, Battle Mode, and Difficulty will get you the experience you want, be it tough as nails or a more relaxed game.

Playing the game at higher resolution

Hey all! I just wanted to post a link to an upscaler that will let you play pretty much any rpgmaker game at a much higher resolution.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/magpie.mirror/

Download this and follow the instructions, open Magpie, then the game, then press alt+F11. I'd suggest using either the Anime4k or CRT upscalers for LoB. This will let you play the game in fullscreen and it will look really nice!

I'm glad you liked it! =)

I'm kinda surprised more people haven't commented on the bonus dungeon considering it's a giant nostalgia bomb.
Extremely good game throughout, one question though. I'm having an issue unlocking the bonus dungeon, I load the clear save and it just sits at the group portrait once 'The End' fades away, am I doing something wrong to unlock it or am I just suppose to wait longer?
Just press the confirm button and it should return you to the world map with a clue. If it doesn't, let me know. A few people have had some trouble with it.
Thank you, pressing confirm on keyboard worked, I had been using a controller. The bonus dungeon was great, plenty of fun but I did figure out a few things in it that I'm not sure was intentional. Abelia's bluff doesn't wear off if used in conjunction with dualcast, so it kinda broke the whole dungeon, as well as that monsters only seem to counter physical attacks with exception to goddess's overture. If both of these are working as intended I apologize.
Glad you were able to do it!

Hmm, some monsters in there will counter magic but it's not 100% so I think you may have just had some good luck. Bluff with Dualcast isn't unintended... Bluff is set up to work like in FF4, where it stacks and lasts a long duration. If it's overpowered though I can definitely scale it back a bit. Thanks for the feedback!
Game looks great. How to I get it to use the left analog stick instead of the directional pad? I tried pinnacle but it doesn't work, even mapping the arrow keys to it. Anyone can play vx ace games with the stick on the gamepad? Thanks!

Edit: fantastic rydiamist, your script worked great! The game plays much better now. I'll review it soon!
Hmm, I never mapped anything to the analog stick because I figured people wouldn't really be using it for this type of game. I have been waiting to put out the next patch since I have been waiting for responses to questions about bug reports, but I have updated the xinput module to allow control with the left stick as well as the dpad.

Until I get the next patch out, you can download this file and place it in the Data folder of the game's directory:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B61JOkymARSaTTRvbzdsWmVPSUE/view?usp=sharing

Let me know if that works for you!
Not sure what is going on, but everytime I tried to download this game that's acting like it's malware or a virus, and attempts to disrupt the download at some point.
Hmm, you're the second person to have a problem with the download now. I just tried it and it was fine, so I'm not sure what's going on. I won't have time until late tonight, but I will see about getting a mirror up for people who are having download issues.

May I ask what browser and OS you are using?
FireFox, Windows XP

Actually I think it's googleDrive doing it because when I went to your mirror for 1.62 that it stated it could not scan it and it was because the file is so large and that's how I got around it, and used the 1.64 patch. It could be possible on the main file source that your main googleDrive that it is treating it like a threat in the middle of downloading.

Might be a error on google's end. (maybe)
I managed to download it using Firefox. I noticed that the file extension was *.zip.part instead of just .zip. Not sure if that's the issue but it downloaded fine on Firefox but not Chrome.

And in case others encounter something similar, I'm using Windows 7.
Well, looks like my Pentium II can't handle this game too well due to all the pretty graphics, and effects.

Goes to show I need to upgrade sometime this year.

I hate my computer.
Yea...that sounds like you definitely need an upgrade. Even $500 will get you a decent rig compared to the PII.

As for me, the game seems to be working fine now. Looks interesting.
Glad you guys were able to get it downloaded. Sorry about the PC though, Kaliesto. Honestly I am surprised you're able to even use the internet on a PC that old. Sorry, there's not much I can do to help here. ;;

@ZarethKnyght: I hope you enjoy the game! =)

Might be because it's a latitude type laptop; these were decent for it's time, but once I get this job thing going then l'll be able to afford things.

hahaha, but hey you're still updating, so that makes all the wait worthwhile. :)
Can you let me know where the water shrine is.
Mcdohl said it was on the 1st floor of the castle, I have looked all over Castle Aquaria but cannot find it.
wow nice to see this game got a new update with a new powered up final boss, but man, i gotta say that abelia is pretty friggin op with flare especially when you buff her magic, whenever i feel going "easy mode" i have abelia, cassey and divinus on the team and the last person doesn't really matter, but i do challenge myself by not using abelia and use random characters
@mimella It's at the back, in the dining room. The curtains should be open after you're told to go there.

@Notmark Hmm, well if Bluff is too overpowered I might need to tone it down a little or reduce the duration. I had figured that spending a few turns that could be used to do damage Bluffing would offset it a bit (considering she's also pretty fragile) but seems not if she's that overpowered. Thanks for the heads up!
Could someone help me yet again.I am having trouble getting over the last spikes in Malum Arce, my reflexes are not very nimble anymore. Any volunteers to do this bit for me. Please PM me.
Not needed now, husband came to the rescue. Men are useful.
Loving the game.
