Latest Patch: 1.69. If you have an earlier version, please download the latest patch as soon as possible.

The download has been updated to version 1.69. It includes all fixes up to this point. There is no need to re-download if you have patched in the fixes separately.

You know that game many aspiring devs create? The one starring their friends, often times based on a chat room, or some forums, or a MMO... or perhaps a fangame that barely resembles its source material. The one that gets maybe a half hour of gameplay finished and is completely unintelligible to anyone except that group of friends. Yeah, that one. Now, what if someone actually saw that project all the way through, and attempted to actually make it a fun, accessible, and playable game that was faithful to its source material?

Enter Legend of Balance. This game originally started out as a fun little project for friends, starring characters from Final Fantasy XIV. Over time, and with a ton of effort, it changed into a complete game of its own. It still stars our characters, and there are still a few injokes, but the plot has been set up as such that any Final Fantasy fan can get into the game and enjoy it as a light hearted Final Fantasy romp. Players of FFXIV will find quite a bit to enjoy as well. The story of the game takes place inbetween the end of FFXIV 1.0 and the start of A Realm Reborn(if you haven't played FFXIV, this part probably doesn't matter, and the game can be standalone).

The game revolves around a group of heroes, champions of the realm of Eorzea. In the midst of an intense battle to decide the fate of Eorzea, the heroes are transported away before facing certain death at the hands of Bahamut. Finding themselves separated in a brand new world, the heroes begin a journey to reunite and find a way home. However what starts off as a simple quest quickly unfolds into a classic journey of crystals, great evil, and steadfast allies. Before this adventure ends, they will discover the truth behind this strange new world, and uncover the binds that tie it to their own home and beyond.

-30 to 40 hours of gameplay, including a multitude of sidequests.

-Enjoy a faithfully recreated Final Fantasy battle system. Everything is as you remember it from the classics!

-Utilize classic abilities, including commands such as Jump, Runic, Blitz, Mime, Throw, Mix, Blue Magic, Dualcast, and much more, along with new commands and abilities based on other games in the series, such as Draw Out from Tactics.

-Equip Magicites to gain access to powerful summons and customize your stat growth.

-A huge cast of unique playable characters, including several hidden ones.

-Find and use faithfully recreated equipment. Favorites like the Ultima Weapon, Illumina, Brave Blade/Chicken Knife, Offering, and much, much more is all here to find and use to become unstoppable!

-Dozens of sidequests ensure there's plenty to do, with no need for excess grinding.

-Face off against familiar foes and brand new ones, including a nostalgia filled bonus dungeon for those who complete the main story.

-Facing a foe that your current party can't handle? Switch party members anytime, even in the middle of a fight!

-Buy rare and unique items at the Auction House, and battle in the Colosseum!

-Take part in minigames, including fishing and an arcade-style airship shooter.

-Customizable Battle Speed, Battle Mode, and Difficulty will get you the experience you want, be it tough as nails or a more relaxed game.

Misaos and Fun Times in RPG Makers Animation Editor!

First off I want to say thank you so much to everyone who voted for our fangame in the Misaos! We won in a few categories and got pretty close to winning in a few others. I was very humbled by all of your support and am very grateful as well. I know Rydiamist feels the same way, So again thank you everyone! Your support is huge motivation booster to get stuff done on our next fan game!

Rydia has been working on making a small little bonus to the game to celebrate getting 5000 downloads! I personally have moved away from working on Legend of Balance other than looking into bug reports we get here and there… but I that doesn’t mean I don’t have something new to contribute to it as well!

I have been spending a lot of time working on our next Final Fantasy fangame, making sprites, looping music, making maps and tilesets, all sorts of fun stuff… but in addition to that, I have been trying to recreate some cool Final Fantasy animations in RPG maker. Let me tell you guys something… I HATE RPG makers animation editor so much, it is so hard to work with… but you have to do what you have to do.

One of the animations that I have been working on has been Fenrir. Now, I always thought it was strange that Legend of Balance didn’t have a Fenrir Magicite since (spoilers) you fight Fenrir in the game. However! For the 5000 download patch, I would like to present to you, Fenrir's Animation~!

Now i’m off to slave away on our next fan game!

what colors these balls have to be in the crystal cave?
hmm, I've been messing around a bit, and just wondering, what does the guy in the VIP lounge give you if you bring him everything he asks you for?
The Paladin Shield, one of the best if not the best shield in the game (some people prefer the Adamant Shield's status protection to Paladin Shield's elemental protection). I decided that'd be a better way to get it than just grinding out 255 battles with the cursed shield.
where is the key to the VIP lounge?
where do you get.
the water crystal'
its on a 1st floor of a castle.
but where is the castle ?
please tell me where the key is!
@nimzo: The VIP Lounge key is given by the mayor of Squeenix after entering the Genesis Tree.

@norman: It is in Aquaria Castle, the same place where the cutscene is. Head down from the throne room to the first floor, then around to the dining hall. A curtain should be pulled aside, that is the entrance to the Water Shrine where the crystal is.
where can one find the black choco
It's in one of the chocobo forests around the world map.
Look for a small patch of trees. I think there are 3 or 4 of them.
yea I've checked everyone I know of
It is in the chocobo forest near the Undead Castle and Kokkol's Forge. Look for the feather towards the back of the forest. You also need to have spoken with the NPCs at the chocobo stable in Squeenix.
ok so the castle is destroyed in both present and past. I cant remember if I talked to the guys in the stables, but there is no feather or black chocoboco in the forest by the undead castle
where can you get a suit of iron armor.
and where do you get the mirror.
found it but who is bastok iamtheone
is it possible to look at equipment in your inventory and see who can equip the items? like in FF6 you could hold a button over a weapon and it would show who all can equip it
ok so the castle is destroyed in both present and past. I cant remember if I talked to the guys in the stables, but there is no feather or black chocoboco in the forest by the undead castle

It's the town, not the castle, that you need to go to in the present. If the feather isn't there, you probably haven't spoken to the NPCs at the stables. If you are still having trouble, you can send me your save file and I can have a look.

EDIT: Oh you found it? Cool~

where can you get a suit of iron armor.
and where do you get the mirror.

Iron Armor should be available in Cecille I believe.

The Mirror is gotten in the past, head to the northeast of the castle, along the coast. You'll find a small hut where you can get it.

found it but who is bastok iamtheone

Bastok Iamtheone is an injoke of sorts, there was a guy who actually talked like that, all of his dialogue is random nonsense he actually said.

is it possible to look at equipment in your inventory and see who can equip the items? like in FF6 you could hold a button over a weapon and it would show who all can equip it

Unfortunately not... that was actually a feature I was planning to put in but I ended up not finishing the script. You can see if you go to a shop and select sell then go through the item list. I might see about finishing it and putting it in a patch since it's a feature I'd like to have.
We do not condone harassing other members by PM.
Ver 1.68
Random thoughts includes spoilers! and is long!
bold=what i consider important
other-just thoughts which may or may not be negative :3

we were robbed of are gear okay
the characters oddly accept it okay
but the experience?! o hell no! wheres the lvl 50+ characters!?

the awkward shift to enter menu but not to back out!

mixing 2 sprite types just looks so wrong. you have these small chibi guards and then normal sized ones o.o
but they are not gnomes or children o.o

encounter skip is gold! i love it! it makes this game ridiculously better!

the sign saying the name of Ashiee's town should be directly at the entrance

i love her town tho :D its cool how it is upgrading :D

dam...i would love to have a on call chocobo or better a airship :3

shared xp makes me so dam happy! i mean when that new member joins and they are around your lvl! :D
its like yay i can use them if i want! rather then leave them on the sidelines or grind them up

:D! some of those side quests i swear...hilarious! i need a phoenix down if someday my girlfriend was {redacted} i do not know what i would do. XD

cut scene magic ROLF XD

Hermes buckler (obtained in the Cecile guild hall) costs the same as the Hermes shield but Hermes is better.

during the prison escape the battles were inaccurate. i mean you see 3 guards come at you but there is only 2 in battle

hmm it would be great if the items, weapons, armors and key items had there own tabs.at least theres organize options :D!

:3 the thief is so awesome. the stuff you can get for free makes him a must use! :D

mystic quest music at patch tower! :D

ultima arrows do not work with muscle belt

the guys wife is beating him and not only does he not just defend himself he wants to stay with her and get iron armor to deal with it? he is effected by the plague heavily!

patch tower was re mapped from a existing tower i have seen in 5+ games :D

i wish changing gear of members not in your party was a little faster. the best way is to use equip thru stores. its just you have to manually select each one instead of just shifting to them

at Aquaria the honeymoon room doesn't have doors!? how are they supposed to!?...

its hilarious when you find npcs that justify things like going into there houses and robbing them or multiple of the same "sprite" i mean person :3

castle Aquria ripped from other games :3

:/ i REALLY hate stories that have a large cast of characters and then decide its a good idea to split them up >.>
i want to use certain characters its wrong to force the player to use others under these conditions.

you cant even save at the point where you choose a route!? (party split) :O

snow drop cave was ripped and modded :D

i want a optional side quest to kill sultan nicholas. i hate people like him >.>

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO the dev put the disgusting system of summons in ff3 when you gain stats by lvling up :/

silent woods ripped and modded :D

i wish ship docks were marked clearer on the map .sometimes locations even overlap them
still i am happy to have a boat now! freedom! need a airship now :3 to get to those unavailable locations!
and hope it moves at least 2x faster then the boat does!

...so...your party goes out of there way just to kill 1 vampire who....killed a OLD man....yet wont take out that perverted pos in the desert??? this is bullshit! discrimination to the max!
honestly...this pissed me off enough to hate the plot portion of this game as a whole :/

i actually missed them saying where the water shrine was. i recommend changing the kings assistants dialog to mention that.(after the cut scene)

honestly at this point (have all the crystals and going to sundi) i really do not see the point of them going to there own world.
i really don't there isn't a realistic need given the circumstances and how society is.

another major flaw not being able to save after cross dressing.

ifrits cudgel is a special one of a kind item but you can sell it? same with any other 1 only gear or key item

would of been great to warp back to the tower of eternity entrance when finished or better back to the elder.
^same with many other dungeons
and since he can teleport why does he just get the relic for you???

since your heros aren't really heros...why the hell do you always have to stay there and let people make things inconvenient for you...fuck leaders kill them save w/e your saving and be done with it...always the dam hard way >.>

why do the characters keep making bad choices? save people who died in the past? this is bullshit!

hate old people >.> "help,i am too old to die!" really?...

its funny how every time someones dying instead of using cure to help them or a potion they just let them die like nothing we can do o.o

how many years was it between the past and present? would anyone really remember you?

pretty cruel how they keep treating isori and her village >.>

there is no dot on the world map for the forgotten ruins north of ashs town

the collisium is pretty cool :D

did we really need to have a actual map for heaven and hell? cant you be nice and just let us battle the target!?

another scumy moment for your team...you were supposed to give allie the weapon and you keep it for yourself?...

what ever happened to kayuu? the purple haired cat girl? last i saw her she was injured by the god tanaka and in a bed then she was just gone?
only to reappear randomly in the cut scene when you fight him?

the developer is just plain cruel. we get another huge string of areas to get tot eh final boss. this was depressing enough as it is. but to add salt to the wounds you have to WALK BACK!
oh did i forget to mention the auto skipping text >.> we would like to read whats going on!

dam that was emotional! and unexpected in this game! but what happened to cassie!?

General 21H 5M+ (expect it to be longer much longer)
My thoughts on this game are very mixed. there some design choices and plot moments i REALLY hated. like times where your just like why more maps lets just get to the point!
and if it wasn't for the encounter deny function without question i would not of finished this and would of dropped it. the game is just way to long to deal with random encounters for that many hours.
the plot and characters suck lets be honest here. there are to many to give them proper development time (in fact they don't really develop at all)
and the plot has a lot of holes which are even used as jokes in the story.

The positive...i would say...that your not playing as any of the more common/popular ff characters making it easier to be immersed in whats going on.
there is a considerable amount of gameplay time so you will not need another game for a few days-a week minimally
theres a lot of side quests, collectible gear, optional bosses to test your power
and the game continues after the end so you can finish everything!

usually i avoid FFF games for many obvious reasons one of which is they suck...
people often tend to rely on the success of the actual series and it just fails...
this has a good amount of flaws but its the best finished FFF game i have played.
i would recommend this

Things i could not do or find or just didn't do

Rukirri in the future

find cursed shield

save carrie
