Latest Patch: 1.69. If you have an earlier version, please download the latest patch as soon as possible.

The download has been updated to version 1.69. It includes all fixes up to this point. There is no need to re-download if you have patched in the fixes separately.

You know that game many aspiring devs create? The one starring their friends, often times based on a chat room, or some forums, or a MMO... or perhaps a fangame that barely resembles its source material. The one that gets maybe a half hour of gameplay finished and is completely unintelligible to anyone except that group of friends. Yeah, that one. Now, what if someone actually saw that project all the way through, and attempted to actually make it a fun, accessible, and playable game that was faithful to its source material?

Enter Legend of Balance. This game originally started out as a fun little project for friends, starring characters from Final Fantasy XIV. Over time, and with a ton of effort, it changed into a complete game of its own. It still stars our characters, and there are still a few injokes, but the plot has been set up as such that any Final Fantasy fan can get into the game and enjoy it as a light hearted Final Fantasy romp. Players of FFXIV will find quite a bit to enjoy as well. The story of the game takes place inbetween the end of FFXIV 1.0 and the start of A Realm Reborn(if you haven't played FFXIV, this part probably doesn't matter, and the game can be standalone).

The game revolves around a group of heroes, champions of the realm of Eorzea. In the midst of an intense battle to decide the fate of Eorzea, the heroes are transported away before facing certain death at the hands of Bahamut. Finding themselves separated in a brand new world, the heroes begin a journey to reunite and find a way home. However what starts off as a simple quest quickly unfolds into a classic journey of crystals, great evil, and steadfast allies. Before this adventure ends, they will discover the truth behind this strange new world, and uncover the binds that tie it to their own home and beyond.

-30 to 40 hours of gameplay, including a multitude of sidequests.

-Enjoy a faithfully recreated Final Fantasy battle system. Everything is as you remember it from the classics!

-Utilize classic abilities, including commands such as Jump, Runic, Blitz, Mime, Throw, Mix, Blue Magic, Dualcast, and much more, along with new commands and abilities based on other games in the series, such as Draw Out from Tactics.

-Equip Magicites to gain access to powerful summons and customize your stat growth.

-A huge cast of unique playable characters, including several hidden ones.

-Find and use faithfully recreated equipment. Favorites like the Ultima Weapon, Illumina, Brave Blade/Chicken Knife, Offering, and much, much more is all here to find and use to become unstoppable!

-Dozens of sidequests ensure there's plenty to do, with no need for excess grinding.

-Face off against familiar foes and brand new ones, including a nostalgia filled bonus dungeon for those who complete the main story.

-Facing a foe that your current party can't handle? Switch party members anytime, even in the middle of a fight!

-Buy rare and unique items at the Auction House, and battle in the Colosseum!

-Take part in minigames, including fishing and an arcade-style airship shooter.

-Customizable Battle Speed, Battle Mode, and Difficulty will get you the experience you want, be it tough as nails or a more relaxed game.

Playing the game at higher resolution

Hey all! I just wanted to post a link to an upscaler that will let you play pretty much any rpgmaker game at a much higher resolution.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/magpie.mirror/

Download this and follow the instructions, open Magpie, then the game, then press alt+F11. I'd suggest using either the Anime4k or CRT upscalers for LoB. This will let you play the game in fullscreen and it will look really nice!

hmm, automatically run as in they just run as soon as the battle starts without any input? This was a bug that came up but I thought it was fixed a long time ago. Are you using the most recent version?
I'm just curious, but I guess the 7777 in the game link http://rpgmaker.net/games/7777/ is by pure coincidence right? haha

Nonetheless, I'll try this game out soon enough (the game has a rather huge file size I might say though o_o).
With how often people notice "7777" one would think you would introduce in one of the updates "All Lucky 7s" as a special status effect or an ability to deal nice, fixed damage. ;P
@eplipswich: Yep, pure coincidence!

Yeah, the file size is pretty large... we've done pretty much all we can to reduce it, it's the audio mostly. I hope you enjoy the game, though!

@Noel: At one point, I was planning to give a character the Slots command. While making a random ability go off was easy, setting up the graphical element of the reels was proving way too much of a headache and I wound up skipping it. Lucky 7s was going to be an ability in that set. =(
Slot Machine Mini Game............................ >________> <________<

Since I'm in a Final Fantasy Record Keeper phase I present to you...

Karina in Final Fantasy VI SNES style!

As an added bonus here are FFRK-styled stats and abilities:

Stats:
HP 4♦ | ATK 5♦ | DEF 4♦ | MAG 2♦ | RES 3♦ | MND 3♦ | ACC 3♦ | EVA 3♦ | AGI 3♦

Abilities:
White Magic 2★ | Combat 3★ | Support 4★ | Knight 5★

Soul Breaks:
Fast Blade (default): Deal two consecutive physical attacks to one target.
Stasis Sword: Deal physical attack to one target and remove all buffs from it.
Soul Blade: Temporarily raise party's Attack and Magic. Raises Attack by 10 when Mastered.

That's it for now. Not including Burst Super Soul Breaks for now since they aren't in global at the moment, and no Record Materias since I can't really think of them.
Woah, AWESOME! That's really cool haha, thank you! =D
Do you have a completed walkthrough yet or is it still being worked on?
I wasn't really planning on writing a complete walkthrough because it would be a tremendous amount of work, since the game is over 30 hours long with sidequests. Instead, we've been trying to cover any places people are getting stuck or missing stuff in the FAQ section. There have also been a couple of Let's Plays of the game, though I don't know how many of them have been completed.

That said, if there's enough demand for a complete walkthrough, I can see if maybe there might be people interested on collaborating on one. I do know it's something a few people have asked for. :/

In all honesty, I was trying to make and translate a complete walkthrough guide for this game in Chinese so I can spread this game to over sea communities.

I completed a rough introduction to all the characters in Chinese. But I instantly gave up once I came to the realization that the game was 30 hours plus long, and I not only had to play through the whole thing again to compose a better guide, I had to put in sentence by sentence translations for fans overseas for them to understand the story and have a truly immersive experience.

And that was not even taking into account for the fact that I don't have any actual RTP so I could not just directly translate everything in the game, too! So it would be a massive word document with pictures and notations on everything since I am such a horrible perfectionist. Oh dear me.

Wow! Translating this into Chinese would be a huge undertaking, but I'm flattered you would even have considered it. I don't blame you for ditching the idea... though if you ever do consider translating it we could probably help you place it into the engine somehow maybe so its not just a text document (I'm not sure exactly how it would work so I won't promise you anything XD).

And if a video guide would help, I can also finish that... I got two videos through and stopped, I can probably start it up again and finish it if people want a full walkthrough via video.
Yes. Please do. The only series up, I wrote the guy off as a moron. He did more goofing off on Skype and laughing then he did playing the game. Please give us an actual video series showing where to find everything and everyone and how.

It would probably increase general awareness of the game if you make such a video, and it will become much more well known.
I spy, with my little eyes, FIVE THOUSAND DOWNLOADS asdpfapsdqwpdpdfpg *hyperventilates*

No worries, just happy that you reached a milestone. Don't push yourselves to produce the extra content.
Yeah, Rydia and myself are very excited to reach 5000, I'm more looking forward to 9000 if we get that far so I can bust out some Vegeta.

The next update wont include much since most of our attention is focused on the new game, but there will be a few things here and there.

(Oops deleted this on accident when I was editing something earlier)
I'm in Mielo that you go to after your party is reunited and you get control of the boat. It's the town where everyone is afflicted by some curse that makes them motionless. I entered the inn in that town and when I go to leave the inn the screen blacks out and stays blacked out. looking for a little help?
Are you playing the latest version?
I am playing the latest version I reinstalled it just to be sure there wasn't an issue. However I saved the game in the town's Inn and when i go out the screen goes black and stays black. I can still move around, leave town which at that point the world map is black. I can get into battles and that works but after the battles it stays dark again. The last save state I have other than this one is during the 3 scenarios about 2.5 hours back. Not sure if it's a map glitch or what not. Don't know the best way to proceed could I maybe send my save state or something to get it fixed??

Thanks!
There's something wrong with an event there. For some reason a fadein is not working. I thought it was fixed, and the event looks right but apparently it is not behaving properly, even though I can't seem to reproduce it. If you send me your save I can fix it.
@Garitharwen

I took a look at the patch and I believe the patch file 1.69 itself was the issue. If you didn't just download the patch let us know because we will probably have to take a further look at the situation in that case.

Updated the patch to match up with our 1.69 files, so hopefully it should work now :x.
