Latest Patch: 1.69. If you have an earlier version, please download the latest patch as soon as possible.

The download has been updated to version 1.69. It includes all fixes up to this point. There is no need to re-download if you have patched in the fixes separately.

You know that game many aspiring devs create? The one starring their friends, often times based on a chat room, or some forums, or a MMO... or perhaps a fangame that barely resembles its source material. The one that gets maybe a half hour of gameplay finished and is completely unintelligible to anyone except that group of friends. Yeah, that one. Now, what if someone actually saw that project all the way through, and attempted to actually make it a fun, accessible, and playable game that was faithful to its source material?

Enter Legend of Balance. This game originally started out as a fun little project for friends, starring characters from Final Fantasy XIV. Over time, and with a ton of effort, it changed into a complete game of its own. It still stars our characters, and there are still a few injokes, but the plot has been set up as such that any Final Fantasy fan can get into the game and enjoy it as a light hearted Final Fantasy romp. Players of FFXIV will find quite a bit to enjoy as well. The story of the game takes place inbetween the end of FFXIV 1.0 and the start of A Realm Reborn(if you haven't played FFXIV, this part probably doesn't matter, and the game can be standalone).

The game revolves around a group of heroes, champions of the realm of Eorzea. In the midst of an intense battle to decide the fate of Eorzea, the heroes are transported away before facing certain death at the hands of Bahamut. Finding themselves separated in a brand new world, the heroes begin a journey to reunite and find a way home. However what starts off as a simple quest quickly unfolds into a classic journey of crystals, great evil, and steadfast allies. Before this adventure ends, they will discover the truth behind this strange new world, and uncover the binds that tie it to their own home and beyond.

-30 to 40 hours of gameplay, including a multitude of sidequests.

-Enjoy a faithfully recreated Final Fantasy battle system. Everything is as you remember it from the classics!

-Equip Magicites to gain access to powerful summons and customize your stat growth.

-A huge cast of unique playable characters, including several hidden ones.

-Find and use faithfully recreated equipment. Favorites like the Ultima Weapon, Illumina, Brave Blade/Chicken Knife, Offering, and much, much more is all here to find and use to become unstoppable!

-Dozens of sidequests ensure there's plenty to do, with no need for excess grinding.

-Face off against familiar foes and brand new ones, including a nostalgia filled bonus dungeon for those who complete the main story.

-Facing a foe that your current party can't handle? Switch party members anytime, even in the middle of a fight!

-Buy rare and unique items at the Auction House, and battle in the Colosseum!

-Take part in minigames, including fishing and an arcade-style airship shooter.

-Customizable Battle Speed, Battle Mode, and Difficulty will get you the experience you want, be it tough as nails or a more relaxed game.

Playing the game at higher resolution

Hey all! I just wanted to post a link to an upscaler that will let you play pretty much any rpgmaker game at a much higher resolution.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/magpie.mirror/

Download this and follow the instructions, open Magpie, then the game, then press alt+F11. I'd suggest using either the Anime4k or CRT upscalers for LoB. This will let you play the game in fullscreen and it will look really nice!

hey rydia will my ps3 remote control work on this like it does other rpg maker games if so tell me how your readme says a game pad would work
Does it support xinput? If so it should work. If not it may or may not.
Wow..even with a new laptop..this game slightly lags at the beginning. I'm really surprised since this laptop is pretty good. I've read through the comments, and looks like the Airship script is the main cause?

Looks like I didn't update my AMD drivers, so it should work better now.
How do you run away from the battle with the robot boss in the Patch tower? I cannot seem to figure it , no pointers in-game. Does the battle system allow you to run away somehow?out
How do you run from battles? I can't seem to do it.

@Knightowl: Thanks for understanding. Sure, I'd like to see it when you're done, feel free to PM me a link!

@Starmage: Thank you for the kind words! I hope you enjoy the game! =)

Can you tell me how to run from battles? I can't seem to figure it out.
so far this final fantasy runs good in fact best one i seen on here with out missing files vx ace is a awesome rpg engine to work with i to am working on a rpg named haarp of destruction with vx ace it to will have a final fantasy type of play hope to have a demo up by september
@semolous29: Press and hold Q and E to run away from battle. If you are using a gamepad, the L and R buttons do the same thing, just like the classic FF games. All of the controls are in the readme file that comes with the game, and NPCs inside the school in Rosalia explain a lot of basic controls and mechanics.

@whitewizard: Thanks for the compliments! Good luck on your game! =)
I beat the story, could you give me a hint on where I can find the bonus dungeon?
Grats on beating the game! The bonus dungeon is located at the cave to the east of Emerald. You have to have completed the sidequest from the masked man in Memoria to enter.
Hi, could you tell me how you got the game to work with a gamepad? What's the script you used for it?
The script is called Input EX by GaryCXJk. It adds xinput support so that most modern gamepads will work. It also lets you customize keyboard controls for things like WASD movement. It's a great script!
Thanks. The reason I asked is so I could potentially use it for my game, since all the controls are already mapped.
I was able to put the controller input script into my game with no problems at all :) Do you have plans for a sequel to this game or no?
I very strongly suggest that you not just pull scripts from LoB, because I have edited many of them for compatibility or have tweaked them to function differently for our game. If you like a script LoB uses, I'd suggest you get a clean version from the original creator.

As far as a sequel goes, while Ashiee and I have tossed around ideas such as a parody version of the FF14 ARR story featuring the LoB characters (the humor being how they would muck up the story), right now our efforts are focused on another FF Fangame. While it won't be directly related to LoB, the gameplay will be very similar. However, instead of having a boatload of characters, we will be going with the job system to allow a ton of customization. We'll be talking about that soon, as we are ironing out the spriting and back end stuff before we get to making maps and events.

I also have another patch for LoB planned to fix lingering minor bugs and to make the Hard difficulty a little more exciting for people who want a challenge. A lot of work on it is done, I just haven't had time recently to finish it up and push it out. It was originally supposed to be done at 5000 downloads, and now we're over 6500... I feel pretty bad about that tbh. ;;
The only one I needed was the controller support script and nothing else.
How do I start the quests on the islands closest to heaven/hell?

LoB: hardtype? I'm too much of a pansy to play hard mode, but I know a lot of FF fans who'll love that!
@semolous29: They are accessed via doing hunts at the Hunter's Lodge. The final hunts are in dungeons accessed from those two islands.

@kalledemos: Yeah, basically! I know it won't be for everyone but I do know a few people said Hard mode was too easy since it basically just inflates stats, and that's not too threatening once you get a lot of abilities. I doubt even with the AI changes that it'll be hard enough for some, but bosses will be a bit meaner for sure!

I accepted the hunt for the daddy longlegs and was told it was in a forest west of Rosalia, but I can't find the monster.
